Voices of the Forgotten: how digital media can operate as a memorial

    No full text
My research essay / speech was about an independent holocaust museum constructed and located entirely within Fortnite. While I first saw this as a massive joke, or a really bad way for Fortnite to try to beat the allegations that they were anti-semitic, this museum led me down a path where I learned about memes as a form of historical memory - framed through the 2016 Indian demonetization crisis. It opened my eyes to the future of digital memorials as a way to memorialize past events, like the Chicago COVID online memorial wall, and to how these memorials might end up hurting the very causes they try to help. Framework for Ethical Implementation of Remote Proctoring in Education

    No full text
The COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent rapid transition of educational assessment from in-person to online formats saw a rise in remotely proctored assessments increase. While this modality had grown in years prior to the pandemic, it grew globally in early 2020. Adoption of technology-assisted solutions for remote proctoring was sudden and widespread. Now, as institutions more strategically plan long-term, sustainable solutions, it is important to analyze both the needs of the institution and the technologies available to make the most informed decisions. The technologies available in remotely proctored tests are examined for benefits and potential concerns. In addition, a framework for the ethical implementation of remote proctoring is presented as a guide for institutions that offers the opportunity for input from multiple user groups
