A Dream Worth Fighting For
Students had to analyze a character from one of the many plays read and discussed during this semester. For this project my group chose Lorraine Hansberry’s A Raisin in the Sun. From this play, we analyzed the character of Beneatha. Throughout this play we encounter racial barriers and gender roles. Hansberry challenges those issues especially through the character of Beneatha. She stands out from most African American woman at that time because she is going to school to become a doctor and is not following the “traditional” role. To express and explain our research on Lorraine Hanberry, the play, and the character of Beneatha we have created a poster presentation.

The Transformation of Tessie Hutchinson: A Character Analysis
The short story “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson, is not the ordinary lottery we are all used to today. In the beginning it may seem that way but, in the end, it turns into a sort a sacrifice. The main character in this short story is Mrs. Hutchinson (Tessie) and she shows no fear of this lottery like her neighbors do. In my paper, The Transformation of Tessie, I argue that Tessie does not take the lottery seriously until she has a chance as being chosen as the sacrifice. To defend my position, I used support from three literary critics who analyzed the story who deepened my understanding of Tessie.

TBM Present
Artist Statement: For this project, though referencing the present, I recorded myself reading a journal from the past. The idea is that in these not so pleasant times, I use my travel journal from a trip to Europe 13 years ago, as a sort of time machine or escape to a more happy time.
