No full textDuring the years that followed the discovery of America, the conquerors acquired absolute power over the new lands. The Spanish monarchs found it difficult to enforce their authority in such distant possessions. To achieve this they had to undertake a long battle against local powers; Its main weapon was the legal body, made up of measures that limited the territorial and temporal extension of the encomiendas, in addition to restricting the encomenderos\u27 access to indigenous work and tribute.Durante los años que siguieron al descubrimiento de América, los conquistadores adquirieron poder absoluto sobre las nuevas tierras. No full textSin la difusión por parte de los medios y de los críticos que ha tenido la publicación de la última novela, Los cuadernos de don Rigoberto, Mario Vargas Llosa publicó el pasado año 1996 el libro La utopía arcaica. José María Arguedas y las ficciones del indigenismo, en la editorial mexicana Fondo de Cultura Económica. En esta obra se reúnen un conjunto de textos centrados en la obra y biografía de José María Arguedas (1911-1969). This ideal, common in Latin American elites and under the protection of positivist ideas, was not only associated with material progress but was also accompanied by the need to create a modern national culture, for which values, customs and customs were promoted. according to the European way of life. What were the means with which they tried to impose this new lifestyle?
