Ioana Stoicescu’s book brings to our attention new and valuable data in a language that has perhaps been stud ied to a lesser extent from the perspective of the acquisition of lexical aspect. To add to its interest to the reader, the book also includes two chapters containing an overview of the literature on telicity itself on the one hand and its acquisition on the other.
ROSTUL DE AUR. UN MANUSCRIS SLAVON DE LA ÎNCEPUTUL SECOLULUI AL XVIII-LEA: “CHRYSOSTOM”: A MANUSCRIPT FROM THE EARLY 18TH CENTURY
A remarkable personality who contributed significantly to the enrichment of the bibliophile treasure of the Neamț Monastery was the hieromonk Pahomie. Between 1704 and 1706 he undertook a journey to Russia, during which he met with Metropolitan Dimitry of Rostov. He received from the hand of the Russian prelate a valuable manuscript about hesychasm written in Old Church Slavonic. The text of the manuscript is closely related to the Gospel texts. In this article we pay particular attention to the notes placed on some pages of this manuscript, which summarize its historical and theological value.
Both the text of the manuscript and the notes on the file are of great historical importance, as they are evidence of the meeting of the two great ecclesiastical personalities
SYNTAX IN HERITAGE LANGUAGE ACQUISITION: THE VIEW FROM ROMANIAN
A heritage language, also known as “family language”, “home language”, or “native language”, represents a minority language acquired through naturalistic exposure within the home, but in a context where a different language is the majority societal language (Rothman 2009, Montrul 2008, 2016, 2022a, b, 2023, Benmamoun et al. 2013, Polinsky 2018, a.o.). In other words, the language spoken in the home, and possibly within a smaller community, differs from the dominant language used by the broader society. Children acquiring heritage languages are heritage speakers of these languages. They are typically early bilinguals, simultaneous or successive, depending on the timing of acquisition of the two languages. These can be acquired either simultaneously from birth or successively, when the heritage language is acquired as the first language (L1) and the societal language is acquired later as second language (L2). Heritage speakers differ greatly in their profiles and can be either second generation immigrants (so children of first-generation immigrants and who are born in the new country), or immigrant children, who immigrate to the new country before puberty (Montrul & Polinsky 2021). For instance, a child born to Romanian immigrant parents in Paris or a child who immigrated at the age of nine with the family from Cluj-Napoca to Munich, would grow up as heritage speakers of Romanian in France and Germany, respectively
Silvina Montrul. 2022. Native Speakers, Interrupted. Differential Object Marking and Language Change in Heritage Languages: Cambridge: Cambridge University Press. 348 + x pp.
In Native Speakers, Interrupted. Differential Object Marking and Language Change in Heritage Languages, Silvina Montrul explores the topic of language change under conditions of language contact, through the lens of heritage language acquisition. More specifically, the author focuses on the use of differential object marking (henceforth DOM) by heritage speakers of Spanish, Hindi and Romanian, all living in the USA, in an innovative cross-linguistic and cross-generational study
Implementation of smart branding as a regional development strategy in Indonesia
Smart branding aims to optimise the appeal of a region, attract tourists and investors, and improve the quality of life for the community. With globalisation, every region is required to compete with one another to become an attractive, conducive, and culturally preserved region. Smart branding enhances a city’s competitiveness through the latest technology and more effective systemisation. The Indonesian government has begun to realise the importance of smart branding, awarding regions that have branded well through the Smart City Award event launched by the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology. This study aims to analyse how smart branding is implemented in Indonesia, the factors that support it, and how smart branding can support the implementation of smart cities across several cities in Indonesia. This study uses secondary data from the Central Statistics Agency and relevant previous studies. This study uses qualitative descriptive analysis and factor analysis. This study found that several cities that have received smart branding awards have strong brand awareness
Football support in the context of rethinking regional identity: case study of FC Hajduk Split
The article’s objective is to examine the role of sports in rethinking regional identity using the example of FC Hajduk Split. The theoretical framework includes input from studies in sports history, geography of sports, geography of belonging, and identity studies. The methodology includes a survey of the impact of football on identity formation with the example of Hajduk fans and sympathisers; an interview conducted among experts who qualitatively interpret the studied phenomenon; the method of field indicators that refers to the analysis of tangible and observable elements in the field, such as fan murals, banners, and symbols, which serve as markers of identity and belonging. This includes discourse analysis of fan murals to explore the identity content and their role in symbolizing space. Due to the lack of a single Dalmatian administrative-territorial unit within the county system of Croatia, Hajduk symbolises the guardian and creator of modern Dalmatianism. Going beyond the region, football cheering enhances the regional identity with value elements. These values gain priority over territorial identification, imposing a sense of connection through an invisible geography of belonging. Therefore, the research confirmed that cheering for Hajduk enhances the Dalmatian regional identity, with value elements gaining priority over traditional territorial identification
Ce qui nous regarde lorsque nous regardons
The starting point of this paper is Didi-Huberman\u27s comment at the end of his book Devant l\u27image of a story in Proust\u27s In Search of Lost Time. Bergotte, a renowned writer, hastens to see an exhibition of the famous View of Delft by Vermeer. Upon seeing the painting which seems to somehow return his fascinated gaze, he becomes aware of the lack of color in his own writings and life, and the shock of this realization causes his sudden death. This story leads Didi-Huberman to ask a fascinating question: is it possible for the paintings to look back at their spectators and, if they do, how are we to understand this unexpected reversal of roles? In this essay, my aim is to explore this question in strictly visual terms, by tackling the relationship between the onlooker (le regardant) and the objects he or she is looking at (le regardé). How does the artist construct this relation in such a way as to suggest the possibility of reversal, namely the fact that the objects under scrutiny look back at the onlooker? According to Didi-Huberman, this is a situation which emphasizes the visual instead of the visible, and the figurability of the image instead of figuration. Hence, my analysis will focus on the conditions of emergence of the visual in paintings and photographs by Robert Doisneau, Erich Salomon, Gustave Caillebotte, Giorgio De Chirico, Arnold Böcklin, Vincent van Gogh, Ion Ţuculescu, and the Brazilian artist JR, in order to suggest that in the examples I have selectedthe image questions the status of the "real" world itself and expresses the old terror of man that his mastery of the world through the gaze could suddenly be challenged by a reversal of roles that would turn him into a meaningless object looked at by someone or something even more powerful. My main hypothesis is therefore that this old philosophical terror can be interpreted as a limit of figurability and the visual
« Images et peuple ». Critique de la représentation sociale chez Georges Didi-Huberman
This article is an analysis of art historian Georges Didi-Huberman\u27s political thought. Embedded in contemporary debates concerned with the actualization of Romanticism\u27s understanding of the people, his aesthetics-inspired approach to communities has the advantage of turning images into a critique of social representations. On the one hand, Didi-Huberman\u27s endeavors deal with a general speculation on the relationship between artistic forms and politics, a reflection that assesses the ways in which society can be related to the fate and properties of images. On the other hand, his approach counterbalances the multitude or transnational-oriented types of reasoning, offering a slightly localized solution, narrowing down communities and ultimately focusing on what Hannah Arendt calls "parcelle d\u27humanité" – an ambitious project (with enormous conceptual promises and resources) that aims at transforming images into instruments of political critique, while, at the same time, acting as a building ground for marginalized societies. The present essay aims to highlight, by means of a typological analysis, the ways in which images concur in constituting communities: 1) in the guise of an anthropology of the sensible as revealed by Aby Warburg\u27s "pathos formulas" and Marcel Mauss\u27s "body techniques"; 2) by means of technical devices of image framing and montage, and their power of association through constraint; 3) by invoking "the society of spectacle" and the effects of the social exposure of artistic forms
INTRODUCERE
PROBLEMATICA IDENTITĂȚII CULTURALE MINORITARE ÎN DARUL DE VLADIMIR NABOKOV: CULTURAL IDENTITY OF THE RUSSIAN ÉMIGRÉ COMMUNITY IN THE GIFT BY VLADIMIR NABOKOV
The novel The Gift (1938) by Vladimir Nabokov presents us with the social and cultural realities of Russian emigrants in Germany in the 1930s from the perspective of the main character, Fyodor Konstantinovich Godunov-Cherdyntsev. This paper highlights the effects of migration on the émigré community by means of an imagological analysis. Accordingly, this study will employ a critical framework based on the concept of otherness to explore the manner in which the cultural identity of Russians is shaped by an antagonistic relationship with Germans. The analysis will demonstrate that the self-image of Russians is profoundly influenced by an internalized Other, thereby highlighting the intricate dynamics between identity, cultural affiliation, and the role of the Other in shaping self-perception. In our analysis, we propose three research directions, guided by the following concepts: hetero-images of Germans, self-images of Russians and the personal sensibilities of the subjective narrator
