Title Improving Diagnostic Accuracy of Lung Auscultation through Interleaved Practice: A Quasi-Experimental Field Study Summary This research investigated the effectiveness of blocked and interleaved practice in diagnosing abnormal respiratory sounds. Conducted as a quasi-experimental study, it involved nursing students from two classrooms at Akdeniz University. The study took place in a whole classroom environment as part of their on-going education. Key dependent variables were students’ diagnostic accuracy, monitoring accuracy, and learning strategy beliefs. Data Description 1. Category learning judgments: • NB (Normal Bronc.), NV (Normal Ves.), CF (Crackle Fine), CC (Crackle Course), WH (Wheezing), RH (Rhonchi) # Individual judgments 0-100. • JOL: Average of monitoring judgments. 2. Diagnostic Accuracy • Q1-12 raw answers. • CF1 CC2; accuracy scores at the sound level. #Immediate test. • Test_IM: Aggregated test score for the immediate test. • NV3 WH4: accuracy scores at the sound level. # delayed test. • Test_D: Aggregated test score at the delayed test. • Effort: Anticipated effort associated with blocking and interleaving - B for blocking, I for interleaving. • Belief: Strategy beliefsv - 1: Blocking, 0 Equal, 2 Interleaving. <BR

Study 1: Critical Aspects of Educating Clinical Management and Clinical Reasoning in Primary Teeth Pulpotomy: A Qualitative Study Based on the Perspectives of Experts and Novices

    No full text
Summary This qualitative study explored the challenges dental students face in transferring knowledge from the classroom to clinical practice, specifically in the context of primary teeth pulpotomy. Sixteen semi-structured interviews were conducted with both expert and novice participants to investigate factors that complicate clinical management and clinical reasoning. Thematic analysis revealed three overarching themes—child-related, parent-related, and student-related factors—each contributing to difficulties in clinical practice. Within each theme, sub-themes highlighted common errors and complicating factors. The findings offer valuable insights for developing targeted simulation-based educational programs aimed at bridging the gap between theoretical knowledge and clinical application in dental education. Dataset The dataset includes anonymized qualitative data from 16 semi-structured interviews with dental education experts and novice students. It consists of, ‘coded excerpts’, contains selected excerpts from interview transcripts along with thematic codes assigned during the analysis; and, ‘codebook’, details the thematic structure, including main themes and their respective sub-themes. This dataset was used to identify critical factors affecting clinical management and reasoning, guiding the design of educational simulations in primary teeth pulpotomy.<BR

Neural encoding of biomechanically (im)possible human movements in occipitotemporal cortex

    No full text
Understanding how the human brain processes body movements is essential for clarifying the mechanisms underlying social cognition and interaction. This study investigates the encoding of biomechanically possible and impossible body movements in occipitotemporal cortex using ultra-high field 7Tesla fMRI. By predicting the response of single voxels to impossible/possible movements using a computational modelling approach, our findings demonstrate that a combination of low-level, postural, biomechanical, and categorical features significantly predicts neural responses in the ventral visual cortex, particularly within the extrastriate body area (EBA), underscoring the brain's sensitivity to biomechanical plausibility

TitleChapter 4. Achieving ‘something that everybody has invested in’: Perspectives of diverse stakeholders during co-creation of a transition to residency curriculum. Summary In chapter 4, we sought to understand the co-creation process in this setting which includes diverse groups of faculty and students. We did this by examining the viewpoints of the various stakeholders and the learners who participated in developing a transition to a residency curriculum. The two research questions that guided this study were: How did the learners and diverse stakeholders who were involved in co-creating the curriculum for the transition perceive the co-creation process? What are the power dynamics that occur in the presence of students with diverse stakeholders, and what measures can be taken to mitigate them? We conducted post‑hoc in‑depth interviews with the stakeholders involved in the co-creation sessions and incorporated the findings to build on the Framework of Stakeholders’ Involvement in Co‑creation. Description of the attached file The attached file provides data that was collected from the one hour-long semi-structured online interviews with 16 participants who were involved in the co-creation sessions. These interviews began with an open question such as “Describe your experience with CC”, and the subsequent answers were then explored with more specific questions. Questions for students included: “Did you feel comfortable contributing?”, “Did you feel valued and listened to?”, “How did your contribution add value to the curriculum?”. Faculty were asked to describe their experience with CC and their thoughts on student input. All interviews were recorded and transcribed. All participants verified and agreed on the one-page summary of their interview transcript (member check). All responses were pseudonymized by coding participants’ names and de-identifying all quotes.<BR
