    Get PDF
Warfarin one of the most commonly used anticoagulants in the world is affected by the vitamin Klevels in the body, which in turn depends upon many factors like drugs and diet. Here we presenta case of a drug interaction between 2 commonly drugs especially in the elderly population. Inthis case Lactulose interacts with absorption of vitamin K from the gut and thereby potentiatingthe effect of warfarin toxicity. Hence it is important for every physician to be aware of this druginteraction and warn their patients regarding the same

    Get PDF
Beta Thalassemia Major is a hereditary hemoglobinopathy that can take on different clinical expressions, with intense and multiple orofacial manifestations. It’s a major public health problem and a challenging condition that requires a multidisciplinary approach involving health practitioners from different paths (hematologist, dentist, orthodontist, cardiologist etc). The changes to the maxillofacial region stemming from this genetic form of anemia, makes it an obligation for dental practitioners to have in depth knowledge towards the nature of this disorder, its effects on oral health, and better understanding of the proper management of beta thalassemic patients. The purpose of this paper is to provide the dentist with a simplified understanding of the physiopathology of the disease, its various systemic and orofacial manifestations, and the keys to a better dental approach. Until medical research is able to provide a definitive solution to these diseases, through gene therapy or otherwise, it is necessary to welcome these patients into the cycle of dental care and offer them the most possibly complete dental experience through coordinated team work

Our study aims to determine the reference values of the CBC in an adult and healthy moroccan population. This is a studyof 996 cases including 874 men and 122 women whose samples were analyzed by the Coulter LH 750 controller thenentered and analyzed by SPSS statistical software. The reference values obtained for the main parameters are: GB between5,10x109- 11,58 x 109/L for women and 4,60 x 109- 13,81 x 109/L for men, PNN between 2,05 x 109 – 9,46 x 109/L forwomen and 1,60 x 109 – 9,80 x 109/L for men and the LYM between 0,42 x 109 – 4,18 x 109/L for women and 0,59 x 109– 4,41 x 109/L for men. The HB between 10.10 to 16.97 g / dL for women and 13.8 to 20.21 g / dL for men, PLQ between121,13 x 109 - 341,00 x 109/L for women and 108,00×109-327,25 x 109 /L for men. Comparing our results with those ofliterature or other studies revealed the existence of several dissimilarities. They are mainly due to ethnicity, smoking andhabits of individuals. This preliminary study has achieved the baseline blood counts for a Moroccan sample and detectspotential differences among populations, often involving diagnostic decisions; hence the need for the establishment of ourown intervals reference through more extended studies in different regions of Morocco. This must be done under theresponsibility of the health authorities and the values obtained must be validated to be applied to the disparities revealed byour study

    Genesis of Psychopathogy in epileptics

    Get PDF
Children suffering from epilepsy have been found to be strikingly susceptible to psychiatric disorders and almost all forms of such abnormalities have been reported in them. Except for a few, most studies on epilepsy concern adults. Nearly half of the children from the subject group had at least some psychiatric disturbance. Incomparison only one fourth of the children from the control group displayed any psychiatric disturbance. The most common psychiatric problem in the epileptic child was conduct disorder followed by a lowered intelligence, whereas in the non epileptic child anxiety and conduct disorder was common. Various factors were found to be significantly associated with psychopathology, these were either contributory to the epilepsy or were consequent to the epileptic state along with its biological, psychological and social ramifications. Thus, psycho-pathology  reflected a complex interaction of seizures, socio-demographic factors and treatment related variables, in accord with studies. Clinicians should be sensitive in identifying psychopathology since this may lead to effective interventions for this group of children

The largest incidence of DUB is in the women of the childbearing age group and menorrhagia was more common in that age group. It is classified into: Anovulatory (90%) and ovulatory DUB (10%). This study includes 190 cases clinically diagnosed as DUB who are attendingOPD or admitted during period of June 2005 to June 2008. Endometrial samples were fixed in 10% formalin and routine processing was done. Paraffin block sections were stained with H&E. The commonest age group was 31-40 years (45.26%) and is seen most commonly in the multiparous women (71.58%). Menorrhagia was the commonest bleeding pattern found in 139 (73.16%) cases. No age was exempted from DUB. Menorrhagia was the commonest bleeding pattern. Endometrial hyperplasia and proliferative endometrium are the commonest endometrial patterns observed

Toxicity assessment of Aluminium on vermicomposting ability of Eudrilus eugeniae (Kinberg) on leaf litter

    Get PDF
Vermicomposting technology is one of the best options available for the treatment of organics-rich solid wastes. In which earth worm converts biodegradable garbage into high quality manure and plays a key role in soil biology and they serve as versatile natural bioreactors to harness energy and destroy soil pathogens. The worms feed voraciously on all biodegradable wastes. There is an instance of chemical toxicity among non target organisms like earthworms etc, in agricultural lands due to pollution of chemical com-panies and factories. In the present investigation vermicomposting ability of earthworms Eudrilus eugeniae were measured experimentally by exposing in moist leaf litter with Aluminium. The morphological changes observed during the exposure of animals were observed in laboratory conditions and appears to impair the different stages of reproductive cycle of the worms thereby resulting in the onset of reduced vermicomposting ability of the earthworm.B
