A primer on your dataset's description (to be edited)

The influence of proper documentation on the reusability for research data should not be underestimated!
In order to help others understand how to interpret and reuse your data, we provide you with a few questions to help you structure your dataset's description (though please don't feel obligated to stick to them):

Context and methodology

What is the research domain or project in which this dataset was created?

Which purpose does this dataset serve?

How was this dataset created?

Technical details

What is the structure of this dataset? Do the folders and files follow a certain naming convention?

Is any specific software required to open and work with this dataset?

Are there any additional resources available regarding the dataset, e.g. documentation, source code, etc.?

Further details

Is there anything else that other people may need to know when they want to reuse the dataset?

Project LANGTI: Teacher survey about language teaching in translation and interpreting programmes

About

This dataset was generated between 2018 and 2019 and included into the LANGTI project (Languages for Translations and Interpreting) conducted by Astrid Schmidhofer at the Department of Translation Studies at the University of Innsbruck between 2021 and 2025. It targets language learning processes of students in translation and interpreting programmes.

Context and methodology

This dataset is part of an online survey studying teaching methodology and beliefs of lecturers who teach language classes in translation and interpreting programmes. The questionnaire which was used for data collection comprises 24 questions targeting the teaching context, teacher experience, teaching methods and teacher beliefs. Data were collected through the online survey tool Sosci survey between October 2018 and August 2019. Potential participants were contacted through institutional email and colleagues.

Technical details

The dataset structure follows the structure of the questionnaire. In order to read the dataset, SPSS or a comparable software is required. Additional information about the questionnaire can be requested from the PI.

Further details

The open-ended questions partially overlap and the answers were grouped thematically during analysis.
