    GAME, as music to the ears

    Based on interviews before and after project participation and online meetings with participating teachers. Supporting material, containing codes and code groups are determined, which led to initial themes in qualitative data analysis. Illustration of qualitative data analysis. Procedure qualitative data analysis: Online group meetings with piano teachers and interviews were recorded and transcribed in Teams. The interview transcriptions were checked and corrected in Atlas.ti. Online group meetings were summarized in short memos. Statements from group meetings that seemed important for the study were transcribed verbatim in Atlas.ti. We did not use the AI option for analysis in Atlas.ti.     In this manuscript we present the results of a four-year monitor among a representative panel of Dutch citizens on the knowledge, awareness and opinions regarding hydrogen. Hydrogen has the potential to play an important role in the energy transition and therefore receives a growing attention. At the start we wanted to know how the Dutch population felt upon hydrogen and its applications. By knowing how the Dutch feel about hydrogen, we could design campaigns to inform the public better and make these campaigns more tailored on the questions or worries the public has regarding hydrogen.     Drones kunnen de landbouw helpen in de duurzaamheidstransitie. Drones kunnen precisielandbouw optimaliseren door monitoring, sproeien en data-analyse van gewassen. Daarvoor zijn echter de nodige juridische uitdagingen. Ter ondersteuning van de juridische kansen en uitdagingen bij de inzet van drones in de landbouw hebben derdejaars-studenten van HBO-rechten voor het project DigiAgro een flowchart en infographic ontwikkeld. De studenten leveren een juridisch beroepsproduct op en doen daartoe onderzoek. De studenten wordt tijdens de uitvoering van de opdracht begeleid door een coach.     Comprehensive Needs Assessment for Enhancing Self-Management in People with Lipoedema and the Support Provided by Their Healthcare Professionals

    Background: The cause of lipoedema remains unclear, and the condition is currently incurable. Effective self-management is therefore essential for coping with its physical and psychological impacts and the necessary lifestyle adjustments. This study aimed to assess the needs, barriers, and facilitators for enhancing self-management and self-management support from the perspectives of people with lipoedema and the healthcare professionals (HCPs) involved in their care. Methods: The study used a mixed-methods approach, incorporating a narrative review focused on people with chronic conditions and their HCPs, along with focus groups involving people diagnosed with lipoedema and the HCPs involved in their care. The Core Processes of the Intervention Mapping method guided a systematic approach to address the study’s objectives. Qualitative data were analyzed using a grounded theory approach. Results: Findings revealed unique self-management barriers for people with lipoedema, including limited awareness and expertise among HCPs, as well as stigmatization from both HCPs and society. Participants identified a need for tailored lifestyle plans, guidance, and support for monitoring progress. Key facilitators included self-management skills, supportive networks, and role models. HCPs noted barriers in communication and collaboration due to a lack of specialized professionals and negative attitudes toward lipoedema. They expressed a need for multidisciplinary/interprofessional teams, accurate diagnosis, patient openness, and reliable information resources. Facilitators included fostering trust, encouraging patient participation, and setting achievable goals. Conclusion: This study underscores the need for tailored self-management interventions for people with lipoedema. The adaptation of existing self-management strategies from other chronic conditions should take into account the specific needs, barriers, and facilitators of people with lipoedema and their HCPs

    Feasibility of a Comprehensive eCoach to Support Patients Undergoing Colorectal Surgery:Longitudinal Observational Study

    BACKGROUND: The mainstay of colorectal cancer care is surgical resection, which carries a significant risk of complications. Efforts to improve outcomes have recently focused on intensive multimodal prehabilitation programs to better prepare patients for surgery, which make the perioperative process even more complex and demanding for patients. Digital applications (eCoaches) seem promising tools to guide patients during their care journey. We developed a comprehensive eCoach to support, guide, and monitor patients undergoing elective colorectal surgery through the perioperative phase of the care pathway.OBJECTIVE: The primary aim of this study was to determine its feasibility, in terms of recruitment rate, retention rate, and compliance. Also, usability and patient experience were examined.METHODS: A single-center cohort study was conducted from April to September 2023 in a tertiary teaching hospital in the Netherlands. All elective colorectal surgery patients were offered an eCoach that provided preoperative coaching of the prehabilitation protocol, guidance by giving timely information, and remote monitoring of postoperative recovery and complications. Recruitment and retention rate, as well as compliance for each part of the care pathway, were determined. Secondary, patient-reported usability measured by the Usefulness, Satisfaction, and Ease of Use questionnaire and patient experiences were reported.RESULTS: The recruitment rate for the eCoach was 74% (49/66). Main reasons for exclusion were digital illiteracy (n=10), not owning a smartphone (n=3), and the expected burden of use being too high (n=2). The retention rate was 80% (37/46). Median preoperative compliance with required actions in the app was 92% (IQR 87-95), and postoperative compliance was 100% (IQR 100-100). Patient-reported usability was good and patient experiences were mostly positive, although several suggestions for improvement were reported.CONCLUSIONS: Our results demonstrate the feasibility of a comprehensive eCoach for guiding and monitoring patients undergoing colorectal surgery encompassing the entire perioperative pathway, including prehabilitation and postdischarge monitoring. Compliance was excellent for all phases of the care pathway and recruitment and retention rates were comparable with rates reported in the literature. The study findings provide valuable insights for the further development of the eCoach and highlight the potential of digital health applications in perioperative support.</p

    Using contribution mapping to evaluate the research impact of Universities of Applied Sciences

    Research conducted by Universities of Applied Sciences (UASs) is frequently driven by professional practice where researchers are challenged with finding solutions to real-life problems. These real-life solutions are significantly enhanced by the participation of stakeholders. Through this inclusion and the resulting interactions, activities, and knowledge transfer, between the stakeholder and research(ers), impacts occur at a micro level. Micro impacts are the normal impacts that occur during the research process through interactions between researchers and stakeholders, that facilitate an unexpected and unplanned effect, be it positive or negative (Lykke et al. 2023, Mapping Research Activities and Societal Impact by Taxonomy of Indicators: Uniformity and Diversity across Academic Fields, Journal of Documentation, 79: 1049–70). Contribution analysis has been recognized as a viable method for evaluating micro impacts. One recognized contribution analysis framework is Kok and Schuit’s (2012, Contribution Mapping: A Method for Mapping the Contribution of Research to Enhance Its Impact, Health Research Policy and Systems, 10: 21) Contribution Mapping. It is also one of the frameworks acknowledged as conforming to several of the recommendations for evaluating UAS research impact. However, to do justice to the nature of Practice Oriented research, a new framework is needed. The purpose of this article is to test how Contribution Mapping works in real-life to answer the question: What can we learn from Contribution Mapping as an impact evaluation tool for a future UAS specific research impact evaluation framework? This article will examine the specificity of UAS research, the relevance of Contribution Mapping for evaluating UAS research, and the theoretical and practical implications of Contribution Mapping. Through inductive analysis conducted on information gleaned from interviews and focus groups, observations, challenges, and limitations are identified, and modifications suggested to take into consideration for a new framework

    Tuning properties of native potato starch by combining heat-moisture treatment with ion exchange

    This study provides insights into novel combinations of hydrothermal modifications and mineral enrichment by demonstrating the versatility of this environmentally more benign approach compared to other common chemical starch modifications like crosslinking. Heat-moisture treatment (HMT) (15% moisture, 100 °C) of native potato starch (NPS) affords granular products that gelatinise at lower temperatures, hold more water as gel, and are more susceptible to enzymatic digestion. Prior mineral enrichment of NPS with sodium, potassium, magnesium and calcium ions yielded significant changes in pasting curves, with monovalent cations increasing peak viscosity, while divalent cations decrease peak viscosity through ionic crosslinking of phosphate groups, allowing further fine tuning of swelling behaviour. Both short and long HMT (4 h and 16 h) triggered partial disruption of crystallinity and an increase in particle size without visible surface damage as evidenced by X-ray diffraction, laser diffraction and scanning electron microscopy. These novel products may find applications where a thickening agent is needed, and high levels of target minerals are desirable like sport nutrition.
