Identity Coherence in the Chronicler\u27s Narrative: King Josiah as a Second David and a Second Saul
Among the variants in Chronicles and Samuel-Kings is the inclusion of Samuel in Josiah\u27s narrative (2 Chr 35:18) compared to “the judges who led Israel” (2 Kgs 23:22). Samuel\u27s appearance occurs at a major transition in the Chronicler\u27s narrative, which links Josiah to not only David, but Saul. While there is yet to be a consensus among scholars as to why a negative death scene follows Josiah\u27s laudable Passover, the social memory associated with Samuel adds rhetorical weight to the Chronicler\u27s narrative
