The Libraries in Senior High Schools and Vocational Schools Faced with Knowledge-based Economy
No full textIt is the age of technology revolution and is what is called the age of “third wave.” Knowledge has become the most precious resource and property of a person or an organization. As globalization is a trend, knowledge becomes extremely significant. All the educational institutions also need to do well in knowledge management. In this age of information explosion and information technology, a single school, especially the school library, faces the biggest influence and impact. Besides, librarians themselves are the managers of knowledge, and they stand at the frontline to put knowledge management into practice in school. Therefore, according to knowledge-based economy, this article probes into the possible ways to operate the libraries in senior high schools and vocational schools when faced with and information knowledge exploded globally
Collaborative Teaching, Reading and Literacy
No full textIn Portugal, students read very little and a significant part of them has great difficulties in dealing with written information. The national and international student assessments regularly situate Portugal at the lowest levels of students’ performances. This means that in Portugal everything is still to be done in what concerns reading and literacy. The problem doesn’t have an easy answer but two of the main reasons are in the poor investment in school libraries and the absence of collaborative teaching. In fighting illiteracy and promoting reading habits, school libraries should take the lead and try to evolve three distinct groups: teachers, students and families. Organising regular reading sessions with students and parents, making books andreading a constant presence in the classroom and at home, using e-technologies to promote reading and writing or publishing a school newspaper are only some examples of what school libraries, teachers, students and families can do together inorder to develop literacy and reading in Portugal
Information Needs and Information Seeking Behaviours of Elementary School Students in Taiwan: Interviewed with Xin Sheng and Wan Fang Elementary Schools
No full textIn this article, we mainly want to investigate the transition of the subjects of children’s information needs and we discuss the context behind those needs. Moreover, in order to more understand the education of information literacy in Taiwan, we deliberately set our two sample groups from two different schools. One school is Taipei Xin Sheng elementary which is not a information seed school, and another is Taipei Wan Fang elementary school, an information seed school. We respectively interviewed with the students of two schools. Then we analyzed the common of the two schools and so did the differences. The findings of our study are presented in five parts: stimulus, source, channels, ways and the result. Finally, the main purpose and recommend of our study emphasize the importance to improve education of information literacy on children in Taiwan
A Study of Mathematics Programs Imbedded in Digital Learning Formats to Bridge Junior and Senior High School Curriculums
No full textThe purpose of this study was to investigate the e-learning method in math to implement the curriculum articulation between junior high school and senior high school, and evaluated its learning effects to improve the implement method of curriculum articulation, to strengthen the students’ digital mathematical materials of curriculum articulation and to quantify the analyses of the students’ learning effects. The research strategies firstly concentrate on interviews to set up teaching content units; secondly evaluate and establish e-learning administrative platform, and then design e-learning materials in ADDIE systems. By previewing and revising contents of these materials, they are practically used in the library activities. In addition to record the pretest and post-test scores of the learners, the data of on-line voting are collected in order to do the comparative analyses to form conclusions as reference for the related researches.The research result showed that using e-learning methods to implement curriculum articulation activities got positive improvement not only in human efforts but also in materials and time; besides, the methods inspired the learners’ motivation, strengthened the learning effects and got the positive satisfaction in the whole learning activities. Researchers suggest that the related researches should be conducted continually so as to meet problems of curriculum articulation in new curriculum of senior high school and help those students who are in need to do automatically learning. Gradually, it can promote school into the learning resources center in the community.
Internet Resources Collection and Arrangement: A Case of Luo-Dong Senior High School
No full textTraditionally, a library is regarded as a place to collect, arrange and distribute information. However, librarians have no choice but to start to emphases the use of internet resources vis-à-vis the rapid growing of Internet and its spreading users. This phenomenon is especially evident in those schools which focus on research teaching, where teachers and students highly require the academic information. These schools always demand the good quality of resources in their libraries. Libraries equipped with internet resources have been set up comprehensively in recent years, users can search for valuable and useful web links from the mainpages of their libraries. Librarians are unlikely to know every subject in every domain, it is therefore a heavy task for them to collect good internet resources, not even mention the relative maintenance and update work. The motivation of the idea that“students collect and make by themselves the top internet resources” is hence come up to my mind

No full textSchool library media specialists in the United States were surveyed to determine their perceptions of the most critical needs in their school libraries. The purpose of the survey was to develop information to be shared with grant-making agencies and foundations to provide suggestions in determining how money might be appropriated for spending. Results of the survey may also be used to compare the priorities of the general population of school library media specialists with those of specific subsets, such as those serving disadvantaged populations

Espoused Theories and Theories-In-Use of Information Literacy: Reflecting on Effective Practice
No full textWhat values, beliefs and conceptions (espoused theories) underpin and shape professional practice (theories-in-use) in information literacy education? This study investigates relationships between espoused theories and theories-in-use of information literacy in academic libraries. The paper reports preliminary findings from an in-depth comparative analysis of one library’s official policy documents and its instruction resources including an online research tutorial. The findings indicate varying patterns of congruence and incongruence between the library’s espoused theories and theories-in-use with incidents of significant gaps. The process of examining espoused theories and theories-in-use provides an evaluative framework for critically analyzing practice with the view of aligning practice more closely with stated goals and rhetoric. The study is therefore presented as a practical method for evaluating tools of information literacy practice in the school library
