Livio e il Conflitto tra Generazioni: La Fine della Monarchia e la Nascita della Repubblica
Get PDFA partire da un passaggio in cui Livio lamenta il venir meno del rispetto per gli anziani alla sua epoca, il contributo mira a indagare il ruolo narrativo e ideologico rivestito dal conflitto tra generazioni nel pensiero storiografico liviano, assumendo come caso di studio emblematico il resoconto del crollo della monarchia e della successiva instaurazione del regime repubblicano. Si tenterà di dimostrare che Livio, rispetto ad altre fonti anche coeve, tende a concepire le ultime vicende del periodo regio nei termini di un conflitto tra le istanze dei giovani e quelle dei vecchi, e che questa concezione intrattiene legami profondi con il suo ideale di storiografia morale

No full textThis chapter comprises a narratological analysis of Pindar’s longest victory-ode, Pythian 4, composed to celebrate a chariot victory at Delphi of Arcesilas IV, the Battiad king of Cyrene. Through a close reading of the ode as a colonisation story, and through comparison with the traditions set out by Herodotus in his Libyan logos, it examines Pindar’s handling of oral and poetic tradition, and the connection between poetic form and political/social ideology.

No full textThis chapter explores the ways in which the Athenians responded to inscriptions after their creation, and in particular their approaches to the emendation, destruction, and recreation of inscribed public texts. It argues that these approaches reveal an ongoing interaction between individual initiative and collective authority in the treatment of inscribed monuments; and it suggests that this interaction, in turn, offers an important insight into the role played by inscribed texts in the shaping and reshaping of Athenian collective memory.
