    Get PDF
Lending to women-owned micro, small, and medium enterprises(MSMEs) is still unexplored when compared to lending toMSMEs in India. Due to a lack of segmental focus and with ahigher perception of risk, formal financial institutions have notmade much effort to understand this segment. The InternationalFinance Corporation estimates that as many as 70% of womenownedSMEs in the formal sector in developing countries areunserved by financial institutions resulting in a financing gapof around $285 billion. For growth and development of nation itis mandatory to close the credit gap for women-owned SMEsacross the developing world. This paper aims to assess the credit gap in demand and supply offinance to women owned SMEs, to focus on the opportunity inserving women entrepreneurs, and present initiatives taken byfinancial institutions for improving access in India. The findingsof a paper are based on secondary research and recommendspotential interventions by financial institutions for closing the creditgap in women owned SMEs. It is concluded that improved accessto credit is most impactful when coupled with strong institutionalenvironments; efforts should be made to establish more robustinstitutions and favorable business condition

The research aims to understand how service recovery satisfactioncould lead to customer satisfaction by exploring the antecedentsof service recovery satisfaction and considering the moderatingrole played by initial negativity experienced due to service failure.A conceptual model assuming the linkages between interactionalfairness, operational fairness & problem solving orientation oncustomer satisfaction mediated through recovery satisfaction andmoderated by initial negativity feel of customers was developedand tested on customers of life insurance products in Kerala.Responses from 250 randomly selected life insurance customers, who had experienced a service failure belonging to the publicsector and private life insurance companies were collected usinga structured questionnaire, which captured their perceptions oncertain relevant indicators capable of measuring the latentvariables. A variance based Structural Equation Modelling(SEM) approach was adopted to explore the significant linkagesin the proposed model. The critical role of the antecedents ofservice recovery satisfaction and its mediating effect in creatingcustomer satisfaction would provide strategic insights topracticing managers to retain customers, in the event of a servicefailure. The study could empirically establish that, initialnegativity feel due to service failures had a moderating effect on customer satisfaction, which implies that the impact of service failure, can significantly modify the service recovery process. The study gathers significance when evaluated in the light ofperceived product failure of Unit linked insurance products

Several studies have established that various personality traitslike materialism and social traits such as susceptibility to socialinfluence explain conspicuous consumption. This paper examinesthe influence of materialism and susceptibility to interpersonalinfluence on conspicuous consumption tendencies of a sampleof 640 expatriate Keralites. The study validates that two of thethree dimensions of materialism significantly relate toconspicuous consumption which means materialism is mostlyrelated positively to buying products that confer status.Susceptibility to interpersonal influence is also seen to beinstrumental in triggering conspicuous consumption amongemigrant Keralites. Variation in conspicuous consumption withregard to gender, age, education, occupation and income levelsare also examined. The study offers interesting insights tomarketers in developing consumer-centric approaches towardsproduct-development, pricing and promotion and also assists inpsychographic segmentation of status seekers. It proposes waysand means of developing and maintaining meaningfulengagement with customers by exhorting marketers to assumegreater social responsibility and focus on societal outcomesstemming from promoting a lifestyle centered around materialismand conspicuous display of wealth
