From the Field : Development Alternatives: Santhigram’s Experience
In India the voluntary sector has been steadily growing in importance.. Not only in number andsize of the organizations but also in the substance of positive changes mediated by them, thevoluntary development sector has elicited both the attention and admiration of the country. Thesector is noted for a number of admirable traits. To mention one factor, there is a large space ofcreative freedom, space for experimentation and innovation. While the government and businesssectors are weighed down by concerns of immediate results and profits, respectively, the voluntarysector is, relatively at least, free from these and can devote its energies in the search for variousmeans and ways of achieving greater common good. For another, the voluntary sector has provedthat its service delivery can be most cost-effective. This is made possible because of its nature ofvoluntarism. No wonder, there is an awakening the world over, to adopt voluntary ethos intogovernance systems. Voluntary organizations have, happily, come to stay in India
The Psychosocial Context of Youth Tobacco Use: Neglected or Forgotten
Tobacco is a global epidemic killing six million people a year and this,according to theWorld Health Organisation (WHO, 2015), is expected torise to eight million by 2030. It is not just this increasing death toll due totobacco use that is crucial in calling it a public health priority. Tobacco isalso the single most preventable cause of death among the five greatest riskfactors for mortality including cardiovascular diseases and cancer. Accordingto WHO, tobacco use is attributed as the cause of more than 70 per centof deaths from lung, trachea and bronchus cancers (WHO, 2015). Thisindicates that a crucial proportion of our productive population die.prematurely because of tobacco use which is totally preventable. Althoughseveral factors are responsible for tobacco use among youth, the psychosocialcontext of young people is primary in the initiation and sustenance ofsmoking, but is seldom targeted in preventive interventions. This articleexamines the psychosocial context of tobacco use by the younger generationin relation to smoking and how young tobacco users perceive theadvertisements intended to curb and prevent tobacco use
Regulatory Framework in Healthcare Delivery: A Study of the Kerala Medical Travel Industry
Kerala has become a major international destination for healthcare.People.from the South Asian Association for Regional Co-operation (SAARC)countries, Middle-East countries and the developed world look up toKerala in their search of cheaper quality healthcare. There are many multispecialityhospitals and medicities with accreditations and trained andexperienced doctors. It can be observed that, in the last few years, billionsof rupees have been invested in the healthcare sector of Kerala. Hospitalsposition themselves as centres of international healthcare. However, thereis a regulatory vacuum in healthcare delivery and it has direct repercussionswhen it comes to international healthcare delivery. The absence of aregulatory framework leads to many unethical practices. This will forceinternational patients to switch to other international competitors. Thisarticle describes the various ethical and legal concerns of Kerala medicaltravel from the perspectives of hospitals and intermediaries. This articleevaluates the regulatory environment of Kerala and puts forward suggestionsto address the issues by the industry players including public sectorundertakings
Adoptive Family Environment In Kerala
One of the fundamental rights of the child is the right to afamily. It is in securing their right to family, especially when they areabandoned at an early age, that adoption has come to be recognizedas an important alternative for their rehabilitation (IAPA, 1989). Thisstudy explored and analysed the environment of the adoptive familiesin Kerala using Family Environment Scale developed by Bhatia andChadha (1993). A total of 356 adoptive parents were interviewed toassess the integration of adoptive child into these families utilizing adescriptive design. The analysis of the three dimensions of the familyenvironment (Relationship, Personal Growth and System Maintenance)revealed that only 53 percent of adoptive families have high relationshipamong the family members. And two third (70%) of these families havegood Personal Growth and System Maintenance. As a whole, it isobserved that three fourth (77%) of the adoptive families have veryhealthy environment and one fourth of these families have averagehealthy environment. Discriminant analysis shows that in families wherecohesion, expressiveness, independence, active recreational orientationand control are higher, the adopted child is highly integrated into thefamily
The Dynamic linkage amoung Sectoral Indices :Evidence from Indian Stock Market
The sectoral indices will act as a benchmarking indicator for observing the performance stocks from a particular sector. An in depth examination on causal impact of a sector on the other sectors and the market index can assist the investors and portfolio managers to a great extent in addressing some key issues relating to portfolio revision. In this study we explore the co-movements of twelve NSE sectoral indices and Nifty on a daily basis from January 2012 to December 2016. The Granger causality test produced the evidence of strong bidirectional linkage between private banking sector and nifty. With respect to IT and FMCG sectors a significant unidirectional causal affiliation was reported with Nifty. The cross sectoral examination results confirmed that irrespective of shareholding pattern a strong bidirectional relation can be observed with banking stocks

Internet banking (IB) is a productof e-commerce in the field of banking and financial services.Statistics reveal that IB is one of the fastest rising e-bankingservices globally and in India too it is gathering momentum.Therefore, it is essential that service providers must understandhow customers evaluate IB service quality for improving servicedelivery and what are the factors influencing service quality. Thespecific objective of the present study was to investigate theinfluence of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM) constructs onservice quality in internet banking.
