The Impact of Cadmium Exposure on Several Tooth Mineral Content

    No full text
The objectives of this study were to determine the impact of cadmium (Cd) on several tooth mineral content. The tooth mineral content that investigated in this present study are calcium (Ca), Phosphate (P), magnesium (Mg), and zinc (Zn). Teeth samples were taken from 25 human maxillary premolar-1 free of caries and defects. All the teeth samples were extracted in Dental Faculty, University of Lambung Mangkurat, Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, Indonesia. Each of tooth sample was put in the water contained Cd in the form of cadmium sulphat (CdSO4) with concentration 1 mg/l for 96 hours. The mineral content of the tooth estimation were made from 0 hours and every 24 hour, so the teeth samples can be divided into 5 groups based on the time of Cd exposure (T1: 0 hours; T2: 24 hours; T3: 48 hours; T4: 72 hours; and T5: 96 hours). The results of this present study show that the administration of Cd led to a significant decrease of Ca, P, Mg, and Zn level in the tooth. The results suggest that Cd exposure can affect several mineral content in the tooth, including Ca, P, Mg, and Zn. Keywords: Cadmium, Calcium, Magnesium, Phosphate, Tooth, Zin

Factor Analysis of the Influence of River Crossing Ferry Use – A Case in Banjarmasin and Kuala Kurun

    No full text
The objective of this research is to obtain factors influencing the use of river crossing ferry in Banjarmasin (South Kalimantan) and Kuala Kurun (Central Kalimantan). The variables reviewed include socio-demographic characteristics, trip, and ferry service. Data analysis has been done by Partial Least Square approach. The analysis results obtained 13 factors that influence the use of river crossing ferry. Judging from the socio-demographic characteristics of trip makers, the influencing factors are the condition of private vehicles, the travel habits, and the residence of the perpetrators of the trip. Furthermore, from the characteristics of the trip, the factors that influence the connection are the location of the destination trip with the crossing, the travel time, the ease of getting to the crossing, and the traffic conditions on the road. The factors that influence the characteristics of transportation services are the crossing time, the operating time and the schedule, the ease of boarding and alighting, the cleanliness and the comfort, the safety and the security, and the ease of paying the ticket

Biomass and Carbon Content on Peat Swamp Forest After Fire

    No full text
Forest biomass is very relevant to the issue of climate change. From the overall yield of forest carbon approximately 50% of which are stored in forest vegetation. In the highly vulnerable peat swamp forest fires, especially in the dry season, these circumstances resulted in destruction of forests and increase the amount of atmospheric carbon and reduce the potential for carbon stored in forests. In line with the Indonesian government's program to conduct carbon trading and fulfill the commitment to contribute to the global effort to meet the target of reduction in greenhouse gas emissions (GHG), the measurement of the potential of biomass, the content and carbon uptake is very important to conduct including in the peat swamp forests. Objective of studies examined the amount of biomass and carbon content and the amount of carbon dioxide absorbed. The method used to calculate the amount of biomass and carbon content and carbon dioxide uptake in these peat swamp forest use standard formula. The results showed the amount of biomass in the forest after the fire of peat swamp forest 13.21 tonnes / ha and the carbon content 6.61 tonnes / ha, and also as the absorption of carbon dioxide was as much as 24.26 tons / ha

Child friendly schools are a dream for every student and parent, because in school students will get academic learning with a feeling of fun and calm. This study aims to evaluate the real conditions of primary schools in the city of Banjarmasin in the perspective of Child Friendly Schools and recommendations regarding the prototype of standard instruments and constructive criteria to measure the feasibility of schools as Child Friendly Schools with the standards set. The research method uses R & D techniques with stages: needs analysis, instrument prototype development, trials for construct validation and dissemination using 31 Elementary Schools in Banjarmasin City. The instrument of data collection uses a structured questionnaire. The results of the study show that the measuring instruments for achieving child-friendly schools include 6 (six) components, namely (1) CFS policy, (2) implementation of the learning process, (3) Trained Educators and Education Personnel on Child Rights, (4) Infrastructure, (5) children's participation, (6) participation of parents, community institutions, business world, other stakeholders. There were 15 schools (48.39%) which were still below the average score and 16 schools (51.61%) were above the average score. The highest achievement level is the Learning Process Implementation Component (93.3%) and the lowest achievement is the Child Participation Component (56.68%). Schools have not been able to optimize the role of key targets to increase children's participation in planning, policy, learning, supervision and complaints mechanisms related to the fulfillment of children's rights and protection in education.
