Driving Efficiency through Restructuring: Evaluating the Effectiveness of Cost Reduction Strategies on Tea Manufacturing Performance at Global Village Tea Factory, Uganda
The performance of tea manufacturing industries significantly influences economic development, particularly in regions where tea production serves as a key economic driver. This study examined the impact of cost reduction strategies on the performance of Global Village Tea Factory, drawing upon Porter’s cost leadership theory. A quantitative research approach was adopted, utilizing correlation and descriptive survey research designs. The target population comprised 120 respondents, with a sample size of 92 determined using Yamane’s formula. Data collection was conducted through self-administered structured questionnaires, and analysis employed both descriptive and inferential statistics, with hypothesis testing at a 0.05 significance level. Correlation analysis revealed a weak but statistically significant positive relationship (r = 0.199, p < 0.05) between cost reduction strategies and industry performance, implying that while cost reduction contributes to performance, its influence is marginal and may not be the most effective strategy for substantial improvement. However, regression analysis indicated no significant relationship between cost reduction and diversification strategies (β = .046, t = 0.399, p = 0.691), suggesting that cost reduction alone may not be a strong determinant of performance. These findings underscore the need for tea manufacturers to explore alternative strategic approaches for enhanced competitiveness and efficiency. The study contributes to the existing body of knowledge by providing empirical insights into the effectiveness of cost leadership strategies in the tea industry, serving as a basis for future research and strategic decision-making in similar manufacturing contexts

Challenges of Disseminating Agroecological Knowledge and Practices: Experience from Farmer Research Networks in Singida District, Tanzania
Farmer Research Networks (FRNs) are essential for disseminating and promoting the adoption of agroecological (AE) knowledge and practices among smallholder farmers. However, many issues that restrict the efficient dissemination of AE knowledge and practices that frequently hinder FRN efforts are poorly documented. This paper examined the challenges of disseminating AE knowledge and practices faced by FRNs in Singida District in Tanzania. The study used a cross-sectional research design where data were collected at a single point in time. Qualitative data were collected using focus group discussions, key informants, and In-depth interviews. Thematic analysis was used to analyze the qualitative data. The study findings show that the recurrent obstacles, such as resistance to change, are because most farmers are still dubious about AE practices because of firmly rooted traditional farming attitudes and the labor-intensive nature of some techniques, such as the nine-seeds hole method and compost-making. The findings revealed that FRNs face challenges in reaching all farmers due to limited access to resources like financing and transportation, and village meetings do not give enough time for in-depth instruction and hands-on demonstrations. Gender inequality and social barriers to women\u27s involvement in decision-making and the sharing of AE knowledge are further restricted by social and cultural norms. Furthermore, the lack of expertise in new AE technologies impacts FRNs\u27 capacity to deliver current information, highlighting the importance of ongoing tailor-made training. This study recommends that policymakers should allocate more significant resources to addressing the perceived obstacles associated with comprehensively disseminating AE knowledge and practices

This implies that individuals with a well-developed sense of time planning and future orientation are more likely to contribute to enhanced administrative performance. The study concludes that strengthening temporal orientation among public officials can lead to more efficient and responsive service delivery. The significance of this study lies in extending the relevance of Time Perspective Theory to the public administration field in a rural African context, offering empirical evidence that enriches the body of knowledge on time-related behavioral factors and their impact on governance effectiveness
Bioactivity Assessment of Analgesic and Anti-inflammatory Properties of Eclipta prostrata Extract on Rat Models
Medicinal plants have traditionally been used to prevent and treat a range of health concerns. Numerous plant extracts have demonstrated anti-inflammatory and pain-relieving effects. In this study, the alcoholic extract of Eclipta prostrata was assessed for its potential analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties. Our investigation is crucial to discovering more effective and safe bioactive substitute to synthetic drugs in treating pain and inflammation. The analgesic efficacy of the Eclipta prostrata extract was evaluated using the acetic acid-induced writhing test and the tail-flick method. At the same time, its anti-inflammatory activity was determined based on its effect on carrageenan-induced paw edema. Eclipta prostrata extended the reaction time of rats to nociceptive stimuli in a dose-dependent manner. The extract had the most effective anti-inflammatory response when supplied at 600 mg/kg dosage at three and 6-hour intervals, while other dosages yielded no statistically significant results. The extract of Eclipta prostrata mitigated acetic acid-induced paw irritation in rats at a dosage of 900 mg/kg. There were no statistically significant effects on analgesic action at any other dosages except 900 mg/kg. The tail flick technique demonstrated that a 900 mg/kg dosage of the extract was statistically significant (p < 0.05) at both the 3-hour- and 4-hour intervals. According to our findings, the extract of Eclipta prostrata exhibits substantial anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties, which must be investigated in further research
