Agency and Representation of Female Characters in Selected African Literary Texts: A Study of Agency in Selected Texts of African Literature

    No full text
This study examined how each female character\u27s sense of self contributes to the formation of agency. It makes the case that women\u27s agreement and collusion in their own subordination are implied everywhere feminist intellectuals embrace male hegemony as the all-powerful ruling principle of androcentric power systems. In a solely library-based study, three novels written by African authors were analyzed utilizing a feminist theoretical framework which affected women literature who were lacked empowerment. Given their superior comprehension of social relationships due to their insider-outsider social location, oppressed people are charged with building their own revolution. This theory\u27s concept of epistemic advantage was highly important to this undertaking. In the findings, the study\u27s conclusions highlight two main categories of feminine reactions to patriarchal authority. The non-agentive female characters who are effectively victims of dominance relationships and their agentive counterparts who overcome the same strong pressures are the two types of femininity that are discussed in Chapter 2. According to chapter three, actors must use their own free will, willpower, and dedication to pursue the ideal of agency, which is neither inherent nor granted. In accordance to the study\u27s findings in chapter four, women\u27s traditionally undervalued selfhood offers both enabling and limiting opportunities for the exercise of situated agency that can transcend systemic barriers to humanist ideals. It also confirms that an actor\u27s level of success is determined by their own volition and active participation. The study comes to the conclusion that any social justice initiative that aims to achieve significant and long-lasting results in support of women\u27s empowerment and liberation must leverage women\u27s sense of self and raise their motivation in the involvement of literature

    No full text
This study examines the impact of multicultural education on student performance by analyzing key variables such as ethnicity, ideological diversity (referring to varied cultural and educational perspectives among students), and teacher perceptions. Using a descriptive correlational research design, data were collected through structured survey questionnaires that assessed teachers’ demographic profiles, teaching strategies, and students’ academic performance. Pearson correlation and regression analysis were employed to examine the relationships among these variables, providing insights into how teachers’ backgrounds influence student outcomes. The study specifically investigates the relationship between teachers’ demographic profiles (e.g., years of experience, cultural competency, and professional training) and students’ academic achievement to understand their role in multicultural education’s effectiveness. Findings suggest that multicultural education positively influences student learning outcomes, but its effectiveness is mediated by instructional strategies and socio-cultural factors (Banks, 2019; Gay, 2020). The study highlights the need for professional development programs to enhance teachers’ multicultural competency (Nieto, 2019; Sleeter & Grant, 2021). Additionally, the study acknowledges external influences such as socioeconomic background and institutional policies as factors that may affect student performance and should be further explored

    No full text
The word "Herbal medicine" refers to the utilization of medicinal plants for the prevention or treatment of illness. This manuscript emphasizes the therapeutic potential of Ageratum conyzoides leaf extract in treating pain and inflammation, validating its traditional use in herbal medicine. Through rat model experimentation, the study offers empirical support for the plant’s analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects, particularly at higher doses. Moreover, the research underscores the significance of ethnopharmacological practices in drug discovery and contemporary drug development. This study utilized rat models to assess the analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects of Ageratum Conyzoides leaf extract. The carrageenan-induced paw edema model was utilized to evaluate anti-inflammatory activity. In contrast, the acetic acid-induced writhing test and the tail flick method were performed to ascertain analgesic efficiency. Rats were administered varying doses of 100, 200, 400, and 800 mg/kg of the Ageratum Conyzoides extract. In the anti-inflammatory experiment, only the 800 mg/kg dosage yielded statistically significant anti-inflammatory effects (p < 0.05), while other levels had no observable impact. In the acetic acid writhing test, all groups exhibited decreased writhing responses, but none were statistically significant compared to the control group. The tail-flick test, however, had a distinct analgesic effect at elevated doses. The 800 mg/kg dosage had substantial analgesic effects at both the two and 4-hour intervals (p < 0.05), while the 800 mg/kg dosage reached significance at the 4-hour point. The results demonstrate the conventional application of Ageratum conyzoides in relieving pain and inflammation, evidently attributable to its elevated concentrations of flavonoids, alkaloids, and saponins. The findings align with prior research and ensure the conventional application of Ageratum Conyzoides in the therapy of pain and inflammation

    No full text
The present review aims to evaluate and synthesize previous research on the impact of food and dietary patterns on mental health. Over the past decade, dietary choices have been implicated in the onset, the progression, and the management of mental disorders. In this review, we analyze evidence on the association between nutritional components and mental health outcomes, such as depression, anxiety, and cognitive functioning from randomized controlled trials (RCTs), cohort studies, and meta-analyses published over the last decade. The purpose of this review is to highlight the significant impact of diet on mental health and to emphasize the potential of diet interventions to contribute to an integrated approach to the treatment of mental illness. The current evidence suggests that improving diet quality should be a key component in the prevention and management of mental health disorders. Public health initiatives and clinical practices should incorporate dietary counseling to promote mental well-being among the general population

Nanoremediation and Biological methods, including phytoremediation and mycoremediation, are also discussed for their eco-friendly and cost-effective potential. This review focuses on various remediation strategies, including precipitation, flocculation, adsorption/ ion exchange, chemical oxidation, and soil washing among others. Remediation technologies are typically always intergrated, however, they can also be utilised alone. The type of pollutants and site conditions will determine which system is most cost-effective and efficient. Future Research should be directed towards improving existing and developing new environmentally friendly remedial solutions

Language Assessment Literacy, Self Efficacy, and Work Task Motivation: A Structural Equation Model on Pedagogical Competence of Teachers in Filipino

    No full text
This study, conducted in Eastern Visayas, Philippines, investigated the influence of language assessment literacy, self-efficacy, and work-task motivation on the pedagogical competence of teachers in Filipino using structural equation modeling (SEM) as the primary analytical approach. A non-experimental quantitative causal design was employed, utilizing stratified random sampling to select 186 teachers from State Universities and Colleges in the region. Findings revealed very high levels of language assessment literacy and pedagogical competence, alongside high levels of self-efficacy and work-task motivation. Significant correlations emerged between all exogenous variables and the endogenous variable, pedagogical competence. Initial analyses showed poor fit, with Model 1 lacking structural strength and Model 2 lacking stability, making both inadequate for explaining the data. Among the tested models, Model 3 achieved strong fit statistics (CMIN/DF = 1.276, RMSEA = 0.039, CFI = 0.993, GFI = 0.948), establishing it as the best-fit structural model. This model demonstrated that language assessment literacy, with indicators of knowledge and skills; self-efficacy, with self-engagement and self-oriented decision-making; and work-task motivation, with indicators of class preparation, teaching, student evaluation, and administrative tasks, were strong predictors of pedagogical competence. Pedagogical competence, in turn, was best represented by observation, participation, visioning, and reflection. These findings underscore the vital role of language assessment literacy, self-efficacy, and work-task motivation in enhancing the pedagogical competence of Filipino language teachers and offer valuable insights for professional development programs in higher education
