Evaluation of Implementation of the Policy on the Prevention, Eradication, Abuse, and Illicit Drug Trafficking (Shine) in Realizing a Drug-Free Society in Gorontalo City, Indonesia

    No full text
This study aims to analyze the implementation of the Prevention, Eradication, Abuse, and Illicit Trafficking of Narcotics (PEAIDT) policy in Gorontalo City. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection methods through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation. Informants were selected purposively, and data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing and verification. The results showed that policy implementation has covered aspects of prevention, eradication, rehabilitation, and supervision of illicit drug trafficking. However, it faces structural barriers such as limited resources, weak cross-sector coordination, and socio-cultural resistance. The policy’s success is determined by six determinant factors: policy standards, resource availability, characteristics of the implementing organization, implementing attitudes, inter-organizational communication, and the external environment. The conclusions of this research emphasize the need for a collaborative, participatory, and contextual approach to policy implementation, as well as strengthening institutional capacity and actively involving the community. This research contributes significantly to formulating evidence-based policy strategies that are adaptive to local dynamics in drug eradication efforts in Gorontalo City

Estimating the Effects of Interventions in Multivariate Time Series Settings

    No full text
This article addresses the methodological challenge of estimating the causal effects of interventions in time series settings where multiple interrelated outcomes may be present. Many real-world applications involve multiple correlated indicators or outcomes—for instance, economic variables reflecting different but interdependent aspects of economic performance, or various epidemiological measures tracking health outcomes. This study reviewed classical univariate factor models (FA) and highlighted their strengths and limitations in isolating intervention impacts under potentially confounded environments. Subsequently, we explore multivariate extensions Factor Analysis (MVFA) that employ shared and outcome-specific latent factors to handle correlations across multiple time series. Building on recent developments, we discuss the Causal ARIMA (C-ARIMA) framework which integrates ARIMA-based structures with potential-outcomes theory, and the Bayesian Multivariate Factor Analysis approach that leverages shrinkage priors and Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) inference for robust estimation of counterfactual trajectories. Simulation evidence and practical considerations suggest these methods can outperform simpler alternatives (e.g., traditional regression or difference-in-differences) when data exhibit hidden confounders, time-varying shocks, or small sample sizes. Overall, the article provides a consolidated view of modern techniques for intervention analysis in complex time series, emphasizing both theoretical motivations and applied utility

Bridging Social and Structural Factors in Addressing Firearm Mortality: A PMESII-informed Approach

    No full text
This study investigates the social and infrastructural determinants of firearm violence in the United States through a PMESII-informed analytical framework. Drawing from open-access national datasets, including CDC WISQARS, the American Community Survey, County Health Rankings & Roadmaps, and the CDC/ATSDR Social Vulnerability Index, the research analyzes data from 2,914 U.S. counties. Employing multivariate linear regression, principal component analysis with clustering, and interaction term modeling, the study evaluates how systemic variables contribute to firearm homicide rates. The findings highlight that higher educational attainment (β = -0.176, p < .001) and stricter gun laws (β = -0.045, p < .001) are the most significant protective factors. Furthermore, infrastructural strength measured through healthcare access, housing quality, digital connectivity, and civic support shows a strong inverse correlation with firearm mortality. Notably, a compounded risk effect (β = 3.303, p < .001) emerges in counties with both high social vulnerability and weak infrastructure, underscoring the need for integrated interventions. The study advocates for targeted policy reforms that strengthen educational equity, enforce robust firearm regulations, and expand infrastructure in high-risk areas. These findings emphasize the critical importance of multi-dimensional, data-driven strategies in mitigating gun violence and offer an actionable framework for researchers, policymakers, and urban planners addressing public safety through systemic resilience

    No full text
Introduction: Carica papaya (pawpaw) is commonly used in traditional medicine for its nutritional and therapeutic benefits, yet the effects of its unripe fruit sap on liver function remain poorly studied. This research aimed to assess the hepatotoxic or hepatoprotective properties of unripe Carica papaya fruit sap in adult male Wistar rats through biochemical and histological evaluations. Methodology: Twenty-four male rats were randomly assigned into four groups of six: Group A (control) and Groups B, C, and D received oral doses of 100 mg/kg, 200 mg/kg, and 400 mg/kg of unripe pawpaw fruit sap, respectively, for 14 days. Acute toxicity (LD₅₀) was determined using Lorke’s method. Liver function was evaluated via serum aspartate aminotransferase (AST), alanine aminotransferase (ALT), and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activities using WHO-recommended spectrophotometric methods. Histopathological examination of liver tissues was conducted post-treatment. Results: Results showed no significant differences in body weight, while liver weight significantly decreased in the high-dose group (p = 0.006), indicating potential hepatotoxicity. AST levels were significantly elevated in the moderate- and high-dose groups, while ALT increased only in the moderate-dose group. ALP levels remained unchanged across all groups. Histology revealed mild liver damage at higher doses. Conclusion: These findings suggest that unripe Carica papaya sap may exert dose-dependent effects on liver function. While lower doses showed minimal hepatic alteration, higher doses were associated with biochemical and histological changes indicative of potential hepatotoxicity. This highlights the importance of cautious evaluation of its use, particularly at high concentrations
