    No full text
This study aimed to investigate consumer perceptions towards organic foods and explore the relationship between purchase intentions and socio-demographic characteristics. Between February and July 2021, we conducted an online survey in the Eastern Mediterranean Region of Türkiye, specifically in the provinces of Adana, Osmaniye, Kahramanmaraş, and Hatay. The survey included 384 randomly selected respondents within the age range of 18 to 71. Factor analysis revealed five significant factors: "Environmental Awareness," "Attitude," "Trust," "Purchase Barrier," and "Purchase Intention." Notably, t-test result showed a significant difference in purchase intention, with female consumers exhibiting a more positive preference. We identified organic tomato-pepper pastes and olive oil as the most consumed organic foods. Moreover, the statement "Organic foods are produced with environmentally friendly methods" received the highest average value under " Environmental Awareness." In conclusion, this research fills a gap in the literature by providing insights into consumer perception and purchase intention toward organic foods in Türkiye. The observed gender-based differences emphasize the need for targeted marketing strategies. The popularity of specific organic products indicates market expansion opportunities. Understanding consumer preferences and market dynamics is crucial for stakeholders in the organic food industry to tailor their approaches effectively. Further research and market analysis are essential to adapt strategies and meet evolving consumer demands in the dynamic organic food market

The study entitled “Knowledge Level of Tribal Farmers on Processing of Non-Timber Forest Products in Meghalaya” aimed to explore the knowledge level of tribal farmers regarding the processing of NTFPs, to find out the relationship between knowledge and profile characteristics of tribal farmers and to enlist the constraints faced by the tribal farmers in two districts of Meghalaya i.e., East Khasi Hills and Ri Bhoi district, with respondents from eight villages. An ex-post facto research design was followed and based on the availability of NTFPs in the villages and dependency, a total of 160 participants belonging to Khasi tribes were purposively selected for data collection using pre-tested interview scheduled. The study revealed a mean knowledge score of 28.17 with a half-standard deviation of 1.48. Among the respondents, more than two third i.e., 68.75 per cent had low to medium knowledge and 31.25 per cent demonstrated high knowledge levels. Correlation analysis revealed significant positive relationship between knowledge level and educational status, material possession, annual income, extension contacts and scientific orientation at the 0.01 level of significance. Marketing pattern and market orientation showed significance at the 0.05 level, while fatalism exhibited a negative correlation at the same level. The top three constraints faced by tribal farmers were insufficient infrastructure for processing and storage, lack of adequate knowledge and difficulties in accessing markets due to remote locations and poor transportation networks which need policy interventions by the concerned governmental bodies or agencies including departments or ministries of agriculture, rural development, food processing and transportation

The data were analyzed through growth rate, co-efficient of determination and root mean square techniques. For analysis of growth rates the exponential growth model was found the best model in this analysis. Growth rates in area, production and productivity of watermelon were estimated to be significantly negative in Jaipur district and the whole Rajasthan state for the study periods

Aggregate Public Support to Indian Agriculture

    No full text
Agricultural subsidies, public investment and income transfer are the three main instruments of India’s farm support policy. This paper examines the aggregate level of public policy support to Indian agriculture for the period from 1995-96 to 2020-21, by putting together different support measures extended by central and state governments and classifying those under three different categories, namely, subsidies, public investment and green box support. The findings reveal that despite some moderation from the peak level achieved during 2008-09, the aggregate support to Indian agriculture continues to remain sizeable at 22.4 per cent of agriculture GVA in 2020-21. In the aftermath of the global financial crisis (GFC) in 2008-09, which is also coincident with the global food crisis, input subsidy declined sharply, whereas the decline in investment was more gradual. Furthermore, there is a distinct shift in the composition, away from input subsidies and in favour of green box support, which includes direct transfer to supplement farmers\u27 income. Using multi dimension index method, the effective aggregate support index, constructed after assigning different weights to the three components as per their impact on agricultural growth, highlights that effective public support to agriculture, which was low in the late 1990s improved substantially till 2008-09 and moderated thereafter. The index values suggest that there is scope for further improvement in policy support for Indian agriculture with higher emphasis on public investment

The study results are anticipated to encourage smallholder farmers to participate in sorghum commercialization rather than producing for subsistence. Study Design:  The study applied quantitative research design to determine factors that influences participation in sorghum contract farming by smallholder farmers. Place and Duration of Study: The study was conducted in Bondo Siaya county Kenya. Targeted group were smallholder farmers producing sorghum either as contracted or non-contracted. The data was collected on sorghum production during 2020/2021 production year. Methodology: A multistage sampling technique was used to sample 135 non-contracted and 105 contracted smallholder sorghum farmers for the study. The data was collected using semi-structured questionnaire which was pretest prior to actual data collection. Data collected was analyzed using t-statistics and chi-squire for the descriptive statistics. While econometric analysis applied logistic regression model to determine factors influencing smallholder farmers’ participation in sorghum contract farming. Results: Findings revealed that post-primary education level (β\beta = 0.215; P = 0.04) , age (β\beta = 0.005; P = 0.00) , gender (β\beta = 0.144; P = 0.02) , number of active household members (β\beta = 0.090; P = 0.03) , group membership(β\beta = 0.188; P = 0.00) , distance to the nearest main road in walking minutes (β\beta = 0.021; P = 0.00) , ownership of bicycle (β\beta = 0.210; P = 0.00) and ownership of oxen (β\beta = 0.238; P = 0.00) positively influence participation in sorghum contract farming. In contrarily, distance to the nearest extension agent office negatively influence participation in sorghum contract farming (β\beta = 0.004; P = 0.01) . Conclusion: The results suggest the need to increase access to extension services, implement policies for empowering women and youths to engage in contract farming, sensitize farmers to form groups to enhance working collectively to acquire input and output market. No full text
The present study was carried out in Rajasthan state as a whole aiming to study acreage response analysis. Nerlovian acreage response function was employed in the time series data of major food grain crops from 1997-98 to 2020-21. It is concluded that acreage of wheat, paddy, bajra, and gram were mainly controlled by the gross cropped area in current year (t), while the price of last year (t-1) also appeared to be the key determination of acreage allocation analysis. In case of wheat, if the gross irrigated area is increase by one per cent then the percentage of acreage will be increased by 1.04 per cent of the area, while in paddy and bajra, farm harvest price and irrigated area were important factors and influencing acreage response, but their influence was non-significant. In case of gram, if the price is increase by one per cent then the percentage of acreage will be increased by the farmers by 1.02 per cent
