Dynamics of Production and Export of Tomato from India: Markov Chain Approach
India is the second largest producer of tomatoes in the world after China contributing around 10 percent of the world’s total tomato production and it has a lot of demand in the international market. The study was conducted to know the growth and stability in the area, production, productivity, and export of Indian tomatoes. The study also aimed to analyze the changing direction and magnitude of India’s tomato export to different countries. The study is based on secondary data collected from different sources over a period of 15 years (2006-07 to 2020-21). Compound annual growth rate analysis and instability index analysis were used to work out the growth and instability in the area, production, productivity, and export of Indian tomatoes. To analyze the direction of trade to different export destinations and to work out export projections, the Markov chain analysis/transition probability matrix through linear programming was used. The findings of the study revealed that there was positive growth in the area (2.21%), production (5.35%), productivity (3.07%), and even export of tomatoes (9.47% export quantity & 18.69% export value) from India but growth rates as well as instability were found to be more in export compared to area, production, and productivity. The results of the Markov chain analysis/transition probability matrix showed that other minor countries pooled under the category ‘others’, Bangladesh and UAE were more stable importers of Indian tomatoes whereas Nepal and Oman were found not at all stable countries with no retention of trade. Hence, Indian export policies need to be oriented towards these changes in trade directions and need to identify those countries among other minor importing countries to divert export of Indian tomato in the future

Constraints Faced by Farmers in Supply Chain Management of Onion in Kurnool District of Andhra Pradesh, India
Onion is one of India\u27s most highly watched agricultural commodities. Onion prices have a direct impact on the average person\u27s consumption basket. After China, India is second in terms of area and production, and third in terms of export. The market is critical to the success of any business, but it is especially vital for agricultural products like onions, which are more difficult to sell due to their seasonality, and bulkiness. The bulk of the state\u27s onion growers are resource poor and lack storage facilities, forcing them to sell their crop to wholesalers shortly after harvest when the price is lowest. This study seeks to identify numerous challenges and restrictions involved in managing the onion supply chain, as well as identify and analyse alternative solutions that may be used to optimise onion supply chain management. It was discovered that the onion supply chain is constrained by a lack of grading facilities, a lack of grading storage facilities, and a lack of infrastructure. It must be determined that the public and commercial sectors must work together in a public-private partnership to develop physical infrastructure, information distribution, and the services necessary for quality and constant improvement of the supply chain. A sample of 120 farmers were randomly selected from Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. Descriptive statistics including frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation, mean scale value were used to analyse the data
Determinants of Women in Post- Production Agri-value Chain Activities on Group Participation in Njoro and Molo Sub-counties, Nakuru County, Kenya
The Kenyan government has been promoting group participation to enhance agricultural productivity through marketing and financial access to improve livelihoods. Groups have also been valued for their ability to foster social capital and collective actions. However, women\u27s involvement in these groups has not been primarily focused on and taken seriously. Although previous researchers have clearly shown the importance of group participation, the determinants of group participation by women agri-preneurs is still unknown. This article therefore, determined the factors influencing women participation in groups in Njoro and Molo Sub-counties, Nakuru County. A multistage sampling technique was employed. Njoro and Molo Sub-counties in Nakuru County, Kenya between March and August 2023.The study sampled 267 female agri-preneurs, both group participants and non-participants. Data processing was done using STATA and SPSS software. The Binary Logit regression model determined the factors influencing women participation in groups. The major factors influencing women agri-preneurs’ participation in groups included: Previous experience about group membership, the size of agribusiness enterprise in terms of income and ability of the female agri-preneur to access and borrow the loan at 95% confidence level. : Previous experience about group membership (P=.000), the size of agribusiness enterprise in terms of income (P=.000) and ability of the female agri-preneur to access and borrow the loan (P=.002) were statistically significant in (P<.05) to their participation in groups. Previous experience about group membership, the size of agribusiness enterprise in terms of income and ability of the female agri-preneur to access and borrow the loan positively influences women participation in groups. This can be attributed to more experience, skills, knowledge and attitude that female agri-preneurs get as they involve more in previous groups and the accessibility of the resources needed to manage their post- production activities
