Development Prospects of Smoked Fish Business in Sinjai District, South Sulawesi Province, Indonesia
This research analyses the characteristics of smoked fish business and determines the appropriate development strategy for the business in the coastal areas of Sinjai District.
Using qualitative and descriptive designs. Sampling was conducted in North Sinjai and East Sinjai Districts of Sinjai Regency from July to August 2024. The data analysis technique uses qualitative descriptive analysis and SWOT analysis to systematically identify various internal and external factors and formulate MSME development strategies. The results of the research show that (1) Characteristics of smoked fish processing MSMEs in Sinjai Regency, including: Business actors aged 33-70 with a dominant education level of elementary school, and having business experience of more than 10 years; the product produced has a distinctive taste, smoked fish in whole and fillet form, uses wood as fuel, simple equipment, marketing is still on a local scale, with varying product prices; MSMEs do not yet have business legality. (2) Appropriate strategies to use in developing smoked fish processing businesses in Sinjai Regency include: developing smoked fish MSMEs with training and counseling programs from related agencies, establishing collaborative partnerships between MSME actors in promoting products and implementing processing technology innovations by updating infrastructure and attend training
Comparative Analysis of the Trends of Ownership Pattern Based on Intersectionality of Gender and Social Categorization in Karnataka, India
Accessing land ownership in India faces some challenges including among others tenancy, land markets, and same with limited women\u27s access. Despite farm women\u27s proficiency in agriculture and household management, gender disparities persist, restricting resource access. Against this background, this paper examined ownership trends in Karnataka by utilizing gender-segregated data from the past five agricultural documented records. The findings show that over times, operational holdings and farming areas operated by women increased, contrasting with a decline among men. Although the total average area decreased, women still held smaller plot portions. Examining social categories, the paper noted a higher participation by women in scheduled caste land holdings, though their plot sizes remain smaller compared to scheduled tribe women. Similarly, among social classes, more women own land in the marginal and small farmer categories, indicating a growing interest in land ownership. This reflects women\u27s proficiency in succession acts. Male agricultural land holdings declined due to urbanization and labour shortages. Farm women\u27s participation in land ownership in Karnataka is higher among India. While the data shows a positive trend with increasing female-owned holdings, a noticeable gap persists in average holding sizes, indicating gender-related inequalities. The paper addressed gender disparities in agriculture, citing social stigma and a lack of legal knowledge as barriers. Therefore, empowering women farmers is crucial, and policy interventions facilitating land, credit, and resource access are essential for balance and sustainable agricultural development
Impact of Herbal and Chemical Miticidal Treatments in Growth Performance in Pigs Infested with Sarcoptes scabiei
The study evaluated the efficacy of two treatments – Ivermectin and a herbal mixture comprising Neem oil (50 ml), Karanj oil (50 ml) and Camphor (10 gm) – on the growth performance of pigs infested with Sarcoptes scabiei. Eighteen pigs with confirmed Sarcoptic mange were divided into three groups of six each. Group A received Ivermectin Group B was treated with the herbal mixture and Group C served as an untreated control. The long term application of Ivermectin and the herbal mixture (Neem oil-50 ml + Karanj oil-50 ml + Camphor -10 gm) control packages in pigs naturally infested with Sarcoptes scabiei were found to have significantly positive bearing on the growth performance of the ectoparasite control package (ECP) treated animals. The observations clearly revealed the corresponding increase in body weight of 8 kg and 8.66 kg in the Ivermectin and the herbal mixture treated pigs, respectively as compared to the infected untreated pigs. Both treatment groups exhibited significant improvements in growth rates compared to control groups
Comprehensive Analysis of Kisan Call Centre in Tiruchirappalli District of Tamil Nadu, India
The farmer may come across a number of information sources but they pursue only few of them depending upon the availability and the ease of use. Countering the importance and facts in view the present study was undertaken in Trichy district. 90 farmers from Manachanallur block were selected using simple random sampling method. Majority of the respondents were middle aged and illiterate, most of them were marginal farmers with farming as sole occupation, had an annual income up to one lakh rupees. Majority of the respondents had moderate to strongly favorable attitude towards the use of Kisan Call Center and had medium knowledge about Kisan Call Center. Major constraints as perceived by respondents were, KCC is not providing the information regarding the seed, pesticide etc. of private agencies followed by SMS send by KCC not display in some of the mobile handsets there is no feedback facility in KCC. The suggestion that KCC agent should use conferencing system to solve the critical queries followed by the use of technical words should be replaced by local language by Call Center Agent
Growth Dynamics of vegetable crops in Eastern Dry Zone of Karnataka, India: An Economic Analysis
The present study was initiated in the Kolar and Chikkaballapur districts of Karnataka with the overall objective of assessing the growth in production and allocation of the area under vegetables in situations. The study was based on time series data collected from the Directorate of Economics and Statistics, Bangalore. Compound Annual Growth Rate and Triennium averages were worked out to examine the trend in area, production and productivity of major vegetable crops. Markov chain analysis was used to examine the dynamic shift in the area, production, and productivity of major vegetable crops for a decade from 2007-08 to 2017-18. The triennium end average of area major vegetable crops in Kolar district for the period TE 2010-11 was 2480.20 ha reduced to 1424.00 ha in TE 2017-18. The productivity of major vegetable crops is increasing to 15134.30 kg/ha from 8830.10 kg/ha (TE 2000-01). The triennium end average of area major vegetable crops in Chikkaballapur district for the period TE 2010-11 was 1085.20 ha increased to 1311.00 ha in TE 2017-18. The productivity of major vegetable crops is increasing to 14422.30 kg/ha from 12166.40 kg/ha (TE 2000-01). The overall growth in the area and productivity of vegetables in Kolar was -7.37 and 8.14 per cent, respectively whereas the overall growth in the area and productivity of vegetables in Chikkaballapur was 4.80 and 1.98 per cent, respectively. Implies growth in the area, production, and productivity showing a decline turn to negative. Whereas, the triennium end average of area for major vegetable crops for the period TE 2017-18 was 124765.7 ha growth of 3.1 per cent and a productivity average of 2165.7 kg/ha with a growth of -0.3 per cent. The tomato and cabbage were the highest retention capacity of 69 per cent equally in both districts. Beans, Brinjal, and Dry chilli have zero retention capacity in the Chikkaballapur district whereas onion, brinjal, and cabbage have zero retention capacity in the Kolar district. i.e these crops lost their 100 per cent area to the other crops. This will be projected by using Markov chain analysis
Cultivating Household Food Security through Resource – Use Efficiency among Cash Crop Farmers: Evidence from Tobacco Producers in Uganda
Poverty, food insecurity and malnutrition cases have been reported among farmers who prioritize cash crops such as tobacco. This is as a result of inefficient allocation of farm resources to tobacco production, with little or no allocation to staple food crops. To increase food production among such farmers, researchers have recommended optimum allocation of farm resources between tobacco and staple food crops. This study therefore aimed at determining the resource use efficiency for tobacco – food crop production, the optimal farm plans and the factors affecting resource use efficiency for food crops production. Data Envelopment Analysis was used to assess the level of resource use efficiency and the optimal farm plans while Tobit model was used to determine the factors affecting resource use efficiency for the optimal farm plans. The results from data drawn from 200 tobacco farmers in Western Uganda depicted that farmers were 61% efficient in their resource allocation to tobacco and food crops. Results for the optimal allocation plans suggested that farmers should optimally allocate their resources to tobacco and food crops in order to achieve household food requirements. Household size, pesticides use, farm income and support from the tobacco contract companies had a positive association with resource use efficiency for food crop production while input prices, land size and gender had a negative relationship with resource use efficiency. In conclusion, farmers are inefficient in allocating their farm resources between tobacco and other food crops which has far-reaching implications for availability of household foods. The study therefore recommends that the governments of SSA should increase the training and extension services on the adoption of optimum resources for cash – food crop production as well as supporting the farmers through inputs subsidies so as to increase household food production
To Determine the Influence of Farmer’s Educational Level on Adoption of Agricultural Water Management Practices in Rongai Sub-county, Nakuru County, Kenya
Water is a critical input for agricultural production and therefore, plays an important role in food security. There are different practices that can aid in managing water used for agriculture. Some of these agricultural water management practices are; rain water harvesting, irrigation, organic farming, mulching and use of drought resistant crops among others. Farmer’s decision to either adopt or reject these practices can be affected by several factors, some of which are socio-economic. Some of the socio-economic factors that may influence adoption of these practices include farmer’s educational level, income level and farm size, among others. This research delve into the influence of farmer’s educational level on adoption of agricultural water management practices. A cross-sectional survey design was adopted, while proportionate and simple random sampling technique was used to obtain the respondents. The accessible population was 6,230 smallholder farmers from the target population of 26,804 smallholder farmers in Rongai sub county Kenya. The study was done in August 2023 to November 2023.The study included 120 smallholder farmers in Rongai sub-county. The study used questionnaire to collect data while binary logistic regression was used to analyze the data. The P value calculated for the 120 smallholder farmers was P=.56 which is >than .05 concluding that in this study education level did not have an influence on adoption of agricultural water management practices. The findings of the study are useful and can encourage farmers to adopt agricultural technologies regardless of their formal education level. The findings may also guide agricultural extension officers to focus on training the farmers on the specific technologies without necessarily focusing on their level of education. Further, the government, through agricultural extension officers, and other policy makers in the agricultural sector, may use the findings of this study while promoting adoption of agricultural technologies, as well as in coming up with appropriate policies that can help improve adoption of agricultural technologies
Assessment of the Knowledge Level of Pomegranate Production Technologies in Maharashtra, India
China is the world\u27s top fruit grower, with India ranking in second. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Gujrat, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh are the main fruit-growing states in India. The present study was conducted in Maharashtra with the specific objective of determining “Knowledge Level of the Pomegranate Growers”. Nashik, Sholapur and Ahmednagar districts were purposively selected for the study, as they are some of the maximum pomegranates growing districts in Maharashtra state. A Total of 180 pomegranate growers were selected from six talukas of these districts. Descriptive statistics was used for data analysis. The study revealed that more than four fifth (83.34 %) of the pomegranate growers had medium level of knowledge about pomegranate production technologies, followed by 12.77 per cent and 03.89 per cent of the pomegranate growers having low and high level of knowledge, respectively
A Case Study on Brand Personality and Consumer Loyalty in India\u27s Booming Dairy Industry
India\u27s dairy industry is witnessing significant growth, driven by factors such as rising disposable incomes, evolving consumer preferences, and the emergence of foreign brands. As the market expands, establishing a strong brand image becomes essential. This research focuses on assessing the brand personality of AMUL, a prominent player in the Indian dairy market, and its influence on consumer loyalty. Utilizing a structured questionnaire administered to respondents in Coimbatore District, this study measures consumers\u27 attitudes towards AMUL, its brand personality. Through exploratory factor analysis, four key dimensions of AMUL\u27s brand personality viz., activity, simplicity, responsibility and emotionality are identified. The findings reveal a positive correlation between brand personality and consumer attitude, indicating the importance of personality in brand perception. The study underscores the importance of aligning branding efforts with consumer preferences and suggests strategies for AMUL to enhance its brand image and brand personality. By leveraging these insights, AMUL and other dairy firms can effectively engage consumers, strengthen brand equity, and sustain market competitiveness in India\u27s dynamic dairy landscape
Constraints of Farmers in Adoption of Improved “Kachai Lemon” Cultivation Practices in Ukhrul District of Manipur, India
The present study was carried out in Ukhrul district of Manipur during the year 2024 to find out the constraints faced by the farmers in the adoption of recommended cultivation practices of Kachai lemon. Kachai village under LM Block was selected purposively as it is the only place where Kachai lemon is mainly grown. A total of 120 respondents were randomly selected from Kachai village. The primary data was collected using a pre-structured interview schedule. The collected data from the respondents were scored, tabulated and analyzed to calculate frequency and percentage to interpret findings and draw conclusions. The finding inferred that 89.16 % of the respondents faced the constraints lack of proper market, 80% of the respondents had the problem of scarcity of water and 75.83 % had less knowledge about plant protection measures. The respondents also suggested that providing of proper marketing facilities from the concerned department and building of a water conservation tank in the village and more training on rainwater harvesting and plant protection might help overcome the problems faced by the villagers
