    No full text
. For the progress of our nation, our farmers need to be progressed. Driven by the motivation Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance scheme (RWBCIS) has been introduced in India. As agriculture is effected by disasters and consequences are beyond our control, it is very essential to take precautionary measures to mitigate from unforeseen events. Crop insurance assists in stabilization of crop production and reduces the negative impact on lives of the farmers. Grapes are susceptible to changes in weather and cause losses to the farmers. An attempt is made to develop a scale to measure perceived impact of Grape beneficiary farmers towards Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme. With the help of Likert’s Summated Rating technique perceived impact scale was constructed. The process started with selecting 39 statements after calculating Relevancy percentage, Relevancy weightage and Mean Relevancy score. Later for item analysis step, 30 farmers from non-sample area were selected and the test was administered having 39 statements on five point continum.  After computing t value, 29 statements were retained. The Reliability and validity of the scale was computed for precision and accuracy. The scale developed was found reliable and valid. Hence, the scale was finalized and administered to 75 Grape beneficiary farmers of RWBCIS farmers in the sample area ie. Nashik district of Maharashtra state. The overall perceived impact of beneficiary farmers towards Restructured Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme was low. Hence it can be inferred that the farmers perceived that there is low impact of the scheme on their lives. Therefore co-ordination between the concerned authorities and regular auditing of the insurance companies is required for the scheme to run efficiently

    No full text
Knowledge of food hygiene essentially entails the handlers’ awareness or things to be done or things to be put in place, in the course of either acquiring raw food materials, preparing food or serving food to the consumers, so that food safety is achieved. Food hygiene knowledge, attitude and practices are important because inadequate knowledge, poor attitude and poor sanitation practices have life-threatening danger to food safety. It is important to have an understanding of the interaction on prevailing food hygiene knowledge attitude and practices of food handlers in order to minimize foodborne outbreaks. The main objective of this study was to assess the knowledge, attitude and practices of food handlers regarding the aspect of food hygiene in Kanpur. One hundred ten food handlers from fifty food establishments of Kanpur were involved in this study. The data was collected from the street food vendors with the help of structured questionnaire and extensive observation. Analysis of data revealed that Knowledge and attitude towards food hygiene was satisfactory among food handlers, where most of the food handlers have fair knowledge and attitude that was (50.0 %) and (40.90%) but fair practice was practiced by only (17.27%) whereas,   majority of them had poor practice (46.36). About 53.6 per cent of food handlers always wash their hands before handling food and only (38.1%) of the food handlers had knowledge about hygiene and sanitation. Statistical testing with chi-square at p<0.05 showed that there is no correlation between educational level of the food handlers and practice of food hygiene; like-wise attitude of the handlers towards food hygiene and work experience had no impact on food hygiene practices of food handlers. The present study concludes that practice regarding food hygiene is not satisfactory and therefore there is need to increase the practice level of food handlers towards food hygiene

    No full text
The succession of activities to the exploitation of a new entrepreneurial opportunity is important for income diversification. The objective of this study was to determine the extent of entrepreneurial behaviour of the farmers as well as to determine its influential factors. The dependent variable was measured using one-to-seven-point semantic differential scale. In addition, seven levels of entrepreneurial behaviour were used in the scale. One hundred thirty-three (133) farmers were selected for data collection using a multi-stage random sampling procedure from selected six unions of Sadar upazila in Panchagarh district of Bangladesh. Descriptive statistics like percentages, means, standard deviations, indices, and rank order were employed to summarise the data gathered during the interviews. The inferential statistical investigation involved using correlation analysis, multiple regression analysis, stepwise regression analysis and path analysis using PLS-SEM (Partial Least Square-Structural Equation Model). The findings revealed that a significant proportion (85.7 percent) of the respondents held a repressive to optimistic entrepreneurial behaviour. The key factors influencing farmers’ entrepreneurial behaviour were educational qualification, extension contact, farm size, and age altogether accounting for 89.0% variance in the dependent variable. However, path analysis indicates that farmers’ educational qualification has the highest contribution on their entrepreneurial behaviour followed by farm size, extension media contact, and age. The farm size has substantial indirect effect through educational qualification and extension media contact on entrepreneurial behaviour. Well-designed interventions, particularly through educational activities and extension services are crucial for fostering farmers’ entrepreneurial engagement in agriculture and enhancing their success

Influencing Drivers of Agricultural Production Technology of Rice in Burundi

    No full text
The adoption of agricultural technologies has become the key to limiting imports and meeting Burundi\u27s rice food needs. This is because rice production is generally low in the country due to the ever-increasing population. This study identified the constraints of rice production, assessed the rate and identified the determinants of the adoption of the rutete rice variety. Primary data was collected using the well-structured questionnaire from 524 rice farmers who were selected using a simple random sampling in the study area. Data analysis was performed using Kendall\u27s tau coefficient for constraints, probit for adoption rate and Heckman\u27s sample selection model for determinants. According to the results, the insufficiency or delay in the supply of fertilizers, the problem of water availability and the problem of access to agricultural credit are the major constraints of rice production. They also show that 29% of respondents have adopted the rutete rice variety. Furthermore, the results show that sex, level of education, planted area, access to extension services, membership in an association and possession of a mobile phone are the determinants of the adoption of the variety of rice rutete. It is therefore recommended that farmers in the study area be encouraged to adopt the rutete rice variety. We also recommend that the government subsidize agricultural inputs and put in place a policy of loosen the tax burden to the microfinance so that the cost of access agricultural credit for rice farmers is lowered. This will prompt an increase of production. Rice farmers who are not members in the farmer-associations should be sensitized to participate
