    Production of Vinegar from Pear Juice and Comparative Analysis of its Quality with Apple Juice Vinegar

    Vinegars are the product of scalar fermentations carried out by several groups of microorganisms acting at different moments in time. Apple vinegar is made with apple juice or concentrated Apple juice (CAJ) through a double fermentation: alcoholic and acetic. Vinegar was successfully produced from the juice extracted from pear using yeast and acetic acid bacteria. This study presents a summary of research concerning the quality of vinegar made from pear and apples by using double distillation method. Juice is extracted from both the apple and pear and was analysed for several parameters like pH, brix, specific gravity, Total Reducing Sugars (TRS), Reducing Sugars (RS), titratable acidity, alcohol percentage and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS). pH of pear and apple juice was found to be 4.82 and 4.35 respectively. pear and apple juice had the Brix of 8.5° and 12° respectively. The TRS of pear and apple juice was found to be 10.2%and 11.87 % respectively. Quality characteristics between pear vinegar and apple vinegar were investigated which includes pH, titratable acidity and alcohol percentage. The alcohol percentage of pear vinegar is slightly less than apple vinegar but the titratable acidity of pear vinegar was slightly more as compared to apple vinegar. Also pH of pear vinegar and apple vinegar are found to be 3.60 was 3.58 respectively. Acetic acid bacteria were isolated from Pear and apple vinegar prepared, using Frateur medium and Glucose Yeast Peptone (GYP) agar medium. Aceto Acetic Bacteria (AAB) isolated was confirmed to be Gram negative rods through Grams staining. The study reveals that pears being a seasonal fruit and cheaper compared to apples can be used to prepare healthy vinegar of best quality by a simple double fermentation method

    Automated Fish Feeder Using Scheduler Mobile Application

    Today\u27s fish feeder technology is a device dedicated to reducing labor costs and creating a better feed dispensing system in local fish farming productions. In this study, a newly developed automated fish feeder using a mobile scheduler application is designed and implemented specifically for Milkfish (Chanos Chanos) production. The development consists of four phases; online research, system design, purchase of materials, and construction. Two types of testing were conducted to evaluate this technology, including a functionality test and a technology acceptance test. The functionality test of the technology was tested using experimental analysis, which uses simulation to test the functionality of the developed system. Seven (7) trials tested the automated fish feeder using the mobile scheduler application for seven days. The study shows that this device was consistent in dispensing 0.43 Kilograms of feeds for one feeding schedule and 0.86 Kg for two feeding schedules, based on the total kilograms put in the system. There were ten respondents that participated in the technology acceptance test. From this test, the mean score values for all items such as availability, aesthetics, and performance were found to be more than 3.7 (using a 5-point Likert scale), which means that the automated fish feeder using the mobile scheduler application is very acceptable according to the technology acceptance test. The developed automated fish feeder using the mobile scheduler application will help the farmers remotely feed fish without hassle and optimize the quantity of feeds for the milkfish

    Impact of Urbanisation on Land Use Pattern in Tamil Nadu: An Economic Analysis

    Changes in land use that eventually resulted in less land being used for agriculture and more space being used for housing in most metropolitan populations. Land use changes have a variety of ecological effects on both urban and rural locations. One of the most notable land use dynamics is the conversion of land that occurs around the periphery of large cities due to a variety of economic and demographic causes. The specific objectives set forth for the study are, to analyse the temporal changes in the land use pattern of the study area and also to estimate the dynamic changes of land use categories and the loss of agricultural land in the study area. The changes in the land use pattern were estimated for the period from 2000-01 to 2019-2020 and further discussed as two decadal periods. The results revealed that there had been a significant decline in the net area sown, while the area under land put to non-agricultural uses and fallow lands, had a sharp increase. This shift in the land use categories might be due to the increasing demand for urbanization and infrastructure development, as a result of population pressure

    Exploring Risk Factors of Suicidal Behaviour among Medical Professionals in the UK: A Retrospective Analysis of Online News Portals

    Suicide is a significant global health burden. The demanding nature of the healthcare profession, combined with unique stressors and challengses, puts medical professionals at risk of mental health difficulties, including suicidal ideation and attempts. This study aims to investigate suicidal behaviour among medical professionals in the United Kingdom by reviewing online news portals and focusing on the risk factors associated with suicide. Seven online news portals from the UK were purposefully selected for the study, focusing on news reports of suicides among medical professionals. Only English online news portals were chosen, as English is the standard language in the country. Out of the 61 reports, 37.7% of the reported suicides were among males, and 62.3% were among females. The age distribution of the suicide reports revealed that the majority of the cases are within the 20-30 age range (42.6%). Mental health issues and fear of losing their job were also prominent reasons (24.6%). Suicide among healthcare professionals in the United Kingdom has drawn little attention. Suicide is more prevalent in early adulthood and among female professionals. Nurses, doctors, and junior doctors are more likely to commit suicide

    Influence of Crack Inclination Angle and Thickness on Mode-Mixity Using FEM

    Mode mixity is common in fatigue growth problems to assess the integrity of components by obtaining the fracture parameters as stress intensity factor, T-stress, J-integrals etc.  Present study aims to investigate the effects of fracture parameters in a modified Compact Tension (CT) specimen using finite element methods (FEM) with ANSYS 2022 software. Crack orientation angle (α) and thickness (t) have their effects on crack growth which affect the life of a mechanical component. With increasing the crack inclination angle (0°, 15°, 30°, 45° and 60°), an increase in mode III stress intensity factor is noticed while mode I showed a significant decrement. Pure mode I is notice at 0°. With further increase in the angle mode-mixity (mode I and mode III) is obtained.  Also, with an increase in the thickness (8mm, 10mm and 12mm) of component there is a noticeable decrease in all modes of stress intensity factor. This mode-mixity play a crucial role in the cracked model of the specimen

    Study of the Potential Toxicity and Side Effects Associated with the Long-term Consumption of Walnuts (Cola verticillata: Sterculiaceae): Anti-Meiosis in the Insect Assay

    Cola verticillata (Sterculiaceae) is a plant that produces nuts renowned for their ceremonial, cultural, medicinal and above all economic value in Africa. The study consisted in evaluating the cytotoxic and genotoxic effects of the aqueous extract of the plant\u27s nuts on the Zonocerus variegatus model. Male and adult locusts were treated with increasing concentrations of 5, 10, 20, 30 and 40 µg/ml. The 0.01 ml/mg extract was administered intraperitoneal and 96 h post-treatment the grasshoppers were killed, dissected and the testicular follicles removed for smear preparation. Chromosomal examinations revealed that the aqueous extract of C. verticillata induced a significant regression of the meiotic index, followed by a significant increase in the chiasmatic frequency in a concentration-dependent manner and in comparison with the control group. In addition to chromosome bridges, chromosome breaks, sticky chromosomes and leak chromosomes were observed mainly at 40 µg/ml. These results show that Cola extract is cytotoxic and genotoxic because it slowed down meiosis while also inducing multiple chromosomal abnormalities with clastogenic effects in the male Z. variegatus breeder. The results of this study call for populations to consume kola nuts (Cola verticillata) intermittently if the cytotoxic and genotoxic effects are not reversed

    Interrelationship between Social Media Addiction and Mental Health of Emerging Adults

    Objective: This study investigates interrelationship between independent factors and social media addiction and mental health of emerging adults. Study Area and Sample: The study was conducted in the Dharwad district of Karnataka State, India. The research was conducted during the year 2020-21. Total study sample consists of 160 students.  Around 80 students from two arts colleges studying I year and II year and eighty students from two science colleges studying in I year and II year were selected. Methodology: A general self-structured questionnaires gather information regarding social media usage. Social media addiction tool by Tutgan and Deniz (2015) was used to assess social media addiction and mental health inventory by Jagadish and Srivasthava (1983) was used to assess mental health status. Results: Results indicate that age had significant negative correlation with social media and significant positive correlation mental health and education of father had significant positive correlation with social media addiction

    Pangi -a dry temperate region of north-west Himalayas, is known ordnance of aromatic & medicinal plants and conventional knowledge coupled with these plants. Rich traditions and philosophy are deeply imbued in the cultural ethos of the natives while the modernity still eludes them, signalling a good scope for ethnobotanical studies. The inhabitants of the Pangi valley use various plant parts for curing different diseases like cough & cold, fever, burns, joint pains and stomach troubles besides using them for making household articles and in religious rites. The present study deals with twenty major medicinal plants used by the natives of the Pangi valley to cure a variety of ailments as the orthodox health care system practised by the local healers (Vaidyas). On extensive review of relevant research literature it was revealed that the use of these plants was never recorded before and hence the present investigation qualifies as a pioneering endeavour.  The traditional herbal medicine is still the most prevalent system in the area while the modern health care systems are slowly creeping in

    Profiling the Post-Graduate Students Utilizing E-resources in J.N.K.V.V., Jabalpur

    The current study was undertaken in Jawaharlal Nehru Krishi Vishwa Vidyalaya, Jabalpur at College of Agriculture, Jabalpur among post-graduate students with 108 students as respondents with the aim to study their profile characteristics. On studying eight independent and one dependent variable, it was found that majority of the respondents were male, from rural background with less than 3 lakh family income per annum, had 7-8 OGPA and had medium awareness about e-resources, medium availability of ICT tools, medium accessibility of e-resources, most of them trainings on e-resources and medium utilization of e-resources. Strengthening the infrastructure for e-resources, providing more training and ensuring easy access to these tools within college libraries will be vital for fostering academic excellence andbridging the digital divide. Investing in these areas will not only support students in their current academic endeavors but will also better prepare them for future challenges in an increasingly digital world

    Fungicides and Bioagents Are Used to Manage Downy Mildew on Pearl Millet

    Pennisetum glaucum (L.), pearl millet Known by most as bajra, it is a significant warm-season grain that is mostly farmed in India under rainfed circumstances. In India, downy mildew caused by Sclerospora graminicola (Sacc.) Schroet is the most common and deadly disease affecting pearl millet. Two weeks after seeding, the illness was visible as chlorotic stripes on the leaf surface advanced from the base to the top. Most infected plants were unable to develop typical, healthy earheads. The bioagents that were examined as seed dressers were Trichoderma harzianum (6 g/kg seed), Pseudomonas fluorescens (8 g/kg seed), Trichoderma viride (6 g/kg seed), and neem oil and water. The downy mildew disease incidence was significantly reduced (2.83%) by the fungicides Mancozeb at 0.2%, Neem oil, Metalaxyl at 0.25%, and Carbendazim at 0.25%, as compared to the control, which had a documented disease incidence of 40.33%. Neem oil considerably outperformed all evaluated bioagent seed dressings for downy mildew prevention, including the seed dressing containing Pseudomonas fluorescens seed treatment at 8 g/kg seed was statistically comparable to Trichoderma harzianum seed treatment at 6 g/kg seed and Metalaxyl application at 0.25%. The downy mildew was also greatly reduced by foliar application of Mancozeb at 0.2 % and seed treatment with Metalaxyl (6 g/kg seed) + spray of Propiconazole at 25% EC at 0.25%; these two methods outperformed the seed dressing with all evaluated bioagents. The positive outcome of using neem oil topically suggests that, when it comes to managing downy mildew in pearl millet in an environmentally benign manner, it might replace fungicides
