Fiducial Point Estimation Solution for Impedance Cardiography Measurements

ICG (impedance cardiography) is in parallel to ECG (electrocardiography) an important indicator of the functioning of the heart and of the overall cardiovascular system. Adding the ICG to ECG measurement functionality into the wearable devices improves the quality of health monitoring, as the ICG reflects relevant hemodynamic parameters (informative time intervals, but also the stroke volume and cardiac output and their variability). The most challenging task of the ICG signal processing is to extract the key points B, C, X of the cardiac period – start, peak-location, and value at this point and the end of the LVET (left ventricular ejection time) sub-period in the cardiac cycle. A novel block diagram and analog implementation of it has been proposed, analyzed, and discussed, with discussion of the benefits of the proposed solution. The proposed solution enables developing of relatively simple very power-efficient solutions, monitoring the ICG values of the person with smart and efficient data acquisition and processing.

2022 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC)

Ottawa, ON, Canada

Presented by Margus Metshein, May 18, 2022

US Patent 10,698,023 (2020): Method and Device for Broadband Analysis of Systems and Substances

The spectro-tomography device uses a sequence of binary pulses designed as a waveform for the periodical excitation signal. This binary sequence is saved in the waveform memory for converting into an analog excitation signal. Its sparse spectrum enables a number of un-correlated frequency sets to perform simultaneous multi-frequency measurements. Analog response from the tested unit enables calculating its impulse response and the complex transfer function (TF) using Discrete Fourier Transform.

2022 IEEE International Instrumentation and Measurement Technology Conference (I2MTC) Ottawa, ON, Canada.

Presented by Mart Min, May 17, 2022.

Euroopa ühtse teadusruumi on olulise prioriteedina välja toodud "Avatud tööturg teadlastele". Seal on välja toodud põhimõtted kuidas kindlustada teadlastele parimad töötingimused, sh kuidas tagada võimalused laialdaseks mobiilsuseks – nii rahvusvaheliseks kui ka sektoritevaheliseks mobiilsuseks, kuidas muuta teadlaskarjäär noortele atraktiivsemaks ning väärtustada teadlaste ühiskondlik aktiivsus. Euroopa Komisjoni 2005. aasta märtsis avaldatud dokumendi "Euroopa Teadlaste Harta. Teadlaste töölevõtmise juhend" (edaspidi Harta ja juhend) eesmärk ongi toetada loetletud prioriteetide elluviimist.

Uuring viidi Euroopa Komisjoni poolt välja töötatud HRS4R (Human Resources Strategy for Researchers) metoodika alusel läbi kahes etapis ja see kajastab olukorda uuringu perioodil (1. veebruar kuni 15. juuni 2021) uuringus osalenud teadusasutustes ja sel viisil kokku võetuna ning üldistatuna tõuseb loodetavasti kasu nii igale osalenud teadusasutustele kui ka Eesti teadusele ja ühiskonnale tervikuna.

Summary The study "Compliance with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers in Estonian research and development institutions" was carried out in the framework of RITA Action 4 "Monitoring of Estonian research, development and innovation policy (R&D&I)". Among the priorities of the European Research Area, "An open labour market for researchers" as an important priority is singled out. This prescribes the principles on how to ensure the best working conditions for researchers, incl. ensuring opportunities for flexible mobility, making the researcher career more attractive to young people and valuing the societal engagement of researchers. The document "The European Charter for Researchers. The Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers" (hereinafter Charter&Code), included in the European Commission´s Recommendation to the Member States from March 2005, aims to support the implementation of the mentioned priorities.

The study was conducted following the HRS4R (Human Resources Strategy for Researchers) methodology developed by the European Commission in two stages and reflects the situation in the involved research institutions during the period of the study (1 February until 15 June 2021), and thus summarised and generalised will hopefully benefit each research institution that participated in the study as well as Estonian science and society as a whole.

Paleowaters in the Cambrian-Vendian (Ediacaran)aquifer system of Baltic Basin - isotopic and Geochemical evolution since Late Pleistocene

An overview of the status and origin of groundwaters in the Shallowly buried marginal part of the Cambrian-Vendian (Edicaran) confined aquifer of the Baltic Basin, which is characterised by fresh and isotopically depleted 18 δ O composition of water, whereas the deeply settled parts of the aquifer are characterized by typical Na-Ca-Cl basinal brines.

Extracellular vesicle subpopulations in human follicular fluid

Ovarian follicle is the basic functional unit of the ovary containing an oocyte surrounded by supporting granulosa and theca cells. During follicle development, formation of fluid-filled antrum separates granulosa cells into two subpopulations. Cells surrounding the oocyte are cumulus granulosa cells (CGC) and cells surrounding the antrum are mural granulosa cells (MGC). Communication between the oocyte and granulosa cells is maintained by several mechanisms including transport of extracellular vesicle (EV) cargo. Follicular fluid EVs are lipid bilayer vesicles loaded with proteins, mRNAs, microRNAs, lipids, and DNA which are taken up by distinct cell types within the ovarian follicle allowing communication between distant cells.
