    Get PDF
Changes in physical, social, emotional, and other developmental stages pose significant challenges for adolescents. Simultaneously, they are tasked with preparing for their future, particularly by achieving high academic achievement. This study delves into the critical role of subjective well-being in adolescent academic achievement, serving as a follow-upinvestigation to elucidate findings from prior quantitative studies. The methodology employed entailed semi-structured face-to-face interviews with participants aged 15-17. To investigate academic achievement, the researcher selected five high-achieving students from two topperforming high schools in Banten, Indonesia. The research adopted an exploratory design, with qualitative data analysed and interpreted through thematic analysis using NVivo software. The thematic analysis unveiled the pivotal influence of parenting, social support, and spirituality on shaping life purpose, academic aspirations, and interests. These themes, in turn, fostered academic motivation, self-efficacy, and emotion regulation among the participants, facilitating the development of effective learning strategies. Armed with these strategies, participants persevered through the learning process, ultimately attaining academic achievement

    Get PDF
The recent rise and development of online film festivals have transcended geographical limitations, allowing films and filmmakers to reach audiences who can participate from the comfort of their homes. This shift has made the study of the positioning and future development of online film festivals a focal point in the film industry. However, there is currently a paucity of research on online film festivals. Most studies focus on the curatorial, economic, or cultural tourism significance of these festivals, often overlooking the perspective of the audience. Based on uses ad gratifications theory and technology acceptance model, this pilot study aims to understand the experiences of audiences participating in online film festivals and to predict their continuance intention. This study collected data through an online survey, inviting 34 participants from film fan communities and social media-related keywords. In the final analysis, 32 valid responses were retained. The results indicate that audience gratification and positive attitudes are critical factors influencing their intention to continue participating in online film festivals. This finding underscores the importance of enhancing audience gratification and fostering positive attitudes for the sustainable development of online film festivals. This study is crucial for film festival organizers, as understanding the audience's intentions to continue participating can aid them in making more informed decisions in future event planning and organization, thereby promoting the long-term development of online film festivals. This pilot study is based on a small sample size and covers a limited group. Therefore, future research should increase the sample size to obtain more convincing results, providing further support for the development of online film festivals

Paissangang Sumombal represents one of the local wisdoms deeply embedded in the lives of Mandar fishermen in the Sulawesi Barat community. This tradition is not merely a distinctive technique of sailing and navigating sandeq boats but also reflects spiritual values, particularly the attitude of tawakal (reliance on God) in Islam. This study aims to analyse the application of paissangang sumombal by the Mandar fishermen and to elaborate on the values of paissangang sumombal that embody the spirit of tawakal. The research employs a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach. Data collection techniques include in-depth interviews, observations, and literature reviews. The research was conducted in Karama Village, Polewali Mandar Regency, a place renowned for mastering sandeq boat navigation. The findings indicate that paissangang sumombal as a form of Mandar local wisdom, demonstrates the courage of Mandar fishermen in navigating the sea, which is not solely based on technical expertise but also rooted in profound spiritual beliefs, especially when facing challenges such as high waves or extreme weather conditions. The attitude of tawakal is the foundation of mental resilience, enabling them to confront natural adversities with calmness, patience, and perseverance. The study reveals that the principle of eco-spirituality provides a deeper understanding of the harmony between culture and spirituality in the lives of coastal communities. Therefore, this study emphasises the importance of preserving paissangang sumombal as a cultural identity of the Mandar people that reinforces the value of tawakal and adaptation to nature

    Get PDF
Technology is the game-changer in education. Online platforms, gamification, and AI are becoming prominent tools in teaching pedagogies. Technology is proven to bring people advantages and helps to minimise human effort in completing tasks. It can be a good tool for educators, especially for IT experts. However, it can become a barrier for educators with non-technology backgrounds who may have less knowledge in IT yet are expected to implement technology in their teaching and learning pedagogies. This study examines the challenges educators with non-technology backgrounds face in utilising technology in their teaching and learning methods and its impact on their work ethics as educators. Using the qualitative interview method of purposive sampling, six educators were teaching at private higher education. From the findings, the high workloads and the need for support are the main challenges in motivating educators to use technology in teaching pedagogies. These two challenges have demotivated all participants in teaching and thus affected their work ethics. This study suggests revisiting the workloads projected to the educators and providing professional development to control the main issue

    Get PDF
Media consumption profoundly influences students’ academic performance, social interactions and well-being. In Oman, excessive social media usage has been linked to mental health challenges among the youth. This study explores the media consumption patterns of undergraduate students at Bayan College, Oman. Participants were selected through the convenient sampling method. The study data comprised 53 daily media consumption records categorised under media platforms utilised, type of content, engagement duration, and the impact on student’s academic performance and overall well-being. The diary entries were analysed manually using the qualitative content analysis method. The results are presented as verbatim expressions and simple descriptive statistics. The findings indicate that digital media, mainly social media and streaming services, dominate students' media consumption, averaging five hours daily. Multitasking during media use was also daily, often decreasing focus and productivity. Educational content in long-form video formats was the most frequently consumed content alongside entertainment. Participants reported media consumption had positive and negative effects; among them, improved connectivity with peers and family, reduced sleep, increased stress, and diminished concentration in class. This study highlights the need to develop strategies to encourage balanced and mindful media usage among university students to enhance academic performance and overall well-being

The Influence of Big Five Personality Traits and Technology Readiness on the Intention to Use an E-commerce Application: A Theoretical Review

    Get PDF
This study proposes a conceptual framework to examine the effects of five personality traits and technology readiness (TR) on the intention to use an e-commerce application. This article presents a comprehensive analysis of the current literature on e-commerce and purchase intent. It also includes a review of personality theory, acceptance theory, and TR. Using subjective fact-finding, this study proposes a conceptual framework that establishes a connection between these factors. The results indicate that there is the integration of the Big Five personality traits (openness, conscientiousness, extraversion, agreeableness, and neuroticism) and the four dimensions of TR (discomfort, innovation, optimism, and insecurity) and their impact on purchase intent of e-commerce applications and thus underlining the realization of the Technology Readiness and Acceptance Model (TRAM). Most previous studies focused on the external factors affecting the intention to use e-commerce applications, and the remaining internal factors constitute a scientific gap. Therefore, researchers are encouraged further to test the proposals for the generalizability of the findings. This article includes the psychological impacts that benefit e-commerce companies on customers’ usage of e-commerce applications, facilitating the development of services based on customer demands to enhance the dynamics of commerce in society. The social effects of this study are characterized by the discovery of personalities that are more inclined to use e-commerce and the importance of this commercial field for entrepreneurs to market their products and services well. The study expands the literature by increasing our understanding of personality in adopting e-commerce applications

    Get PDF
The paper aimed to analyse the factors influencing the quality of content generated in vernacular radio in Kenya. Specifically, the paper aimed to establish the influence of cultural values and audience preferences on the quality of content generated by Maasai vernacular radio Mayian and Noosim FM, which broadcast to almost 80% of the Maasai community in Kenya. A total of 57 employees working in the two radio stations formed the target population of the paper. The paper adopted a census as the population targeted was small. Therefore, the paper sample was 57 respondents. Primary data was collected using a structured questionnaire. Statistical package for Social Science (SPSS version 26) was used to code and analyse the raw data realised from the field. Correlation and regression analyses were done to determine the relationships between the paper variables. The paper found that at the significance level (95%,) cultural values and audience preferences were significant factors influencing the quality of content generated by vernacular radio. Additionally, cultural values were the most crucial factor in determining the quality of content generated by vernacular radio, followed by audience preferences. The paper recommends that vernacular radio invest in cultural sensitivity training for content creators and broadcasters and conduct regular surveys and feedback sessions with their audiences to understand their preferences better

    Get PDF
The irreversible march of pre-Saharan Morocco towards globalisation is in full swing, and the tribal factor remains a key element in understanding this region's culture and urban dynamics. This study aims to show how pre-Saharan populations, which are always structured by kinship ties, are caught in an oscillation between attachment to their roots and their tribal culture on the one hand and the influence of other ways of life from outside on the other hand. Preceded by a first pre-survey, which made it possible to map the ethnic distribution in the city and to understand the demographic weight of each group, as well as their community space in the city; our contribution is based on a qualitative survey carried out between 2018 and 2019 in Tinghir and its surroundings, which relied on several data collection techniques, including semi-structured interviews, documentary research and observation

    Get PDF
This study assessed the implementation of the National Policy and Strategic Plan of Action on Prevention and Control of Non-Communicable Diseases in Nigeria. A descriptive survey design was employed, and the population of this study consisted of employees of the Ministry of Health in the six states of the South-west geopolitical zones in Nigeria. The study used purposive sampling techniques to select 600 respondents. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data, and the data obtained were analysed with descriptive and inferential statistics. Findings revealed that social factors, individual behavioural habits, biological and genetic factors, environmental factors and health services are determinants of effective public health status in Nigeria. Not all relevant stakeholders were well captured and considered in the policy development, leading to the gap between the target and the outcome. Furthermore, the policy implementation has not been effective at the grassroots level (F=153.186, R=0.977; p=0.05). The study concluded that attaining the desired healthcare performance depends on health sector reforms geared towards reducing inequality in access to health services and ensuring that public health policy is a product of synergy between the government and all stakeholders

Role Of Positive Emotions in Reducing Job Stress: Tips for Millennial and Z Generation Employees

    Get PDF
Job-related stress is a prevalent issue that can adversely affect employees. This challenge is particularly pertinent among millennials (born between 1981 and 1996) and Generation Z (born after 1996), who are distinguished by their technological adeptness, pursuit of work-life balance, and preference for supportive work environments. Addressing job stress in these generations is essential for cultivating a healthy workforce, as these generations increasingly dominate the workforce. This study examines the impact of positive emotions on job stress among millennial and Generation Z employees. The 'New Job Stress Scale' was employed to measure job stress, while the Positive Emotion Scale, based on the 'Broaden and Build' theory, was used to assess positive emotions. Data analysis was conducted using simple linear regression. The findings revealed that positive emotions significantly reduce work stress (β = -0.462, p < 0.01), accounting for 21.4% of the variance in influencing job stress. These results highlight the critical role of fostering positive emotions in the workplace to mitigate stress among young employees. Future research should focus on developing specific interventions to boost positive emotions and investigate their long-term effects on employee well-being. Organisations can create a more supportive and effective work environment by addressing the unique needs of millennials and Generation Z
