Qualité de la chair des lignées de truite arc-en-ciel après sept générations de sélection sur la teneur en lipides musculaires
National audienceFlesh lipid content is a determinant of fillet quality that could be controlled by selective breeding. Two lines of rainbow trouts divergently selected for lipid content, a lean muscle line (L) and a fat muscle line (F), were assessed for raw, cooked, and smoked fillet quality parameters. Fish from the L line gave consistently lower values than those from the F line for all adiposity parameters (fat-meter value, muscle lipid and dry matter content). Raw fillet from L fish gave lower values of lightness, redness and yellowness. However, cooked fillets differed only for yellowness whereas smoked fillets differed for both redness and yellowness but not for lightness. Mechanical resistance of fillets was also affected by selection. Fillets from L fish were firmer at slaughter time and two days post-mortem, as were the smoked fillets. However, no difference in textural parameters was measured between cooked fillets from the two lines. Histological measurement of white muscle fiber size revealed that M fish had much smaller fiber than G fish
Exploring conditions for agricultural viability in Guadeloupe: Identifying gatekeepers. Some insights from the French Caribbean
Toward exacerbated global changes, one of the main current challenges is to implement agrecological transition. In this context, territorial scale appears as a consistent level where governance procedures are experienced. The context is the one of a multi-level and multi-actors’ governance leading to change in local public policy. We questioned 21 key stakeholders from agricultural frameworks as well as actors from collective organisations. By combining textual analysis tools and graph theory, we focus on stakeholders’ representations of viability as these actors produce advice regarding the settings of administrative and regulatory planning. We identify four key dimensions to viability (economical, agroecological, socio-cultural and organisational). The results show a continuum on the agroecological dimension of viability. They reveal the pivotal role of gatekeepers designed as actors able to support substantive change by transforming the agroecological dimension of viability in a ‘rational myth’. By doing so, they could initiate collective actions to promote change and support agroecological transition

À l’instar d’autres secteurs, les données sont désormais omniprésentes dans le domaine de l'environnement. Elles jouent un rôle clé en lien avec le développement de moyens de calcul rendus possible par les TCI. L'accumulation et l'accès à l'information sont désormais au cœur des préoccupations de l'action publique au nom de la transparence. Ces opérations concourent à rendre visible un certain nombre de phénomènes comme la biodiversité tout en assurant l'ouverture des données publiques (open data). La transparence vient d’abord justifier les processus de standardisation et de globalisation de la production des données. Dans la lignée des travaux de Michel Foucault sur la gouvernementalité libérale qui appréhendent les formes d'exercice du pouvoir à travers un ensemble de dispositifs concrets, on s'attachera à étudier le Système d'information sur la nature et les paysages (SINP) mis en place en France par l’Etat. Nous montrerons que ce dispositif de normalisation vise à désencastrer les savoirs accumulés au niveau local notamment par des bénévoles membres d’associations. Nous nous interrogerons ensuite sur la transparence comme technique de gouvernement en se demandant si l'accès et le partage des données constituent un réel gage de participation des citoyens et en questionnant la place du politique dans ce gouvernement du vivant. Cette analyse s'appuie sur une approche socio-anthropologique basée sur le suivi du processus de mise en œuvre du SINP et sur une analyse de type ethnographique destinée à rendre compte des modalités de production des connaissances au sein du monde associatif

Segmentation of defects on log surface from terrestrial lLidar data
International audienceSegmentation of defects on the tree log surface remains a challenge due to the unclear seperation between the foreground and the background and the high variability of the tree surface. Even if some first works exist to process specific tree species, a generic method robust to various species is missing. We propose a new approach for segmenting defects on log surface based on the tabular object analysis. We firstly compute the log centerline by surface normal accumulation and then threshold the point cloud by the the difference between the distance to the centerline and the reference distance estimated from a patch of neighbors. The performance of the proposed approach was experimented and compared on ten logs recovered from different species. The results showed that our approach outperformed other method based on cylinder detection and was robust to several tree species. The results can be reproduced and compared on an online demonstration

Effects of CTL2 down-regulation on tension wood formation in GM poplars
International audienceAngiosperm trees are able to reorient their axes thanks to their capacities to differentiate tension wood on the upper side of stems and branches. In poplar, tension wood fibres develop an extra cell wall layer, named G-layer, responsible for the peculiar mechanical properties of tension wood. G-layer is composed of highly crystalline cellulose microfibrils embedded in a polysaccharide/glycoprotein matrix devoid of lignin. During the G-layer deposition, cellulose microfibrils get oriented parallel to the fibre axis and placed under the state of high tensile stress. Chitinase-like proteins (CTL) have been proposed to play different roles in plant growth and development. Genes encoding CTL have been associated to cellulose synthesis and their mutation causes ectopic deposition of lignin. Transcripts of CTL2 gene were shown to be highly abundant in differentiating tension wood (Déjardin et al., 2004). Its homologue in Arabidopsis is specifically expressed in stems and co-expressed with the CesA genes involved in cellulose synthesis in secondary cell walls (Persson et al., 2005). In our study, we investigated potential function of CTL2 in the formation and mechanical properties of tension wood. Expression of CTL2 was quantified in different tissues and the effects of CTL2 down-regulation have been characterized in GM poplar trees. CTL2 gene appeared highly expressed in xylem with no difference in expression between tension and opposite wood. Downregulation of CTL2 did not seem to impact growth and development of trees in greenhouse conditions. However, stems appeared to be highly breakable in the transverse direction. Anatomical observations of xylem showed altered formation of Glayers in vessel-surrounding fibres in transgenic poplars. Further analyses indicated a substantial increase in wood lignin content. Cellulose crystallinity, microfibril angle and stem mechanical properties are currently assessed. Results will be presented and discussed in the light of present hypothesis regarding CTL2 function in plant development
