RVEBS: Event-Based Sampling on RISC-V
No full textThis paper presents RVEBS, a novel extension to the RISC-V Hardware Performance Monitor (HPM) that introduces Event-Based Sampling (EBS) capabilities, enabling fine-grained performance analysis and profiling. The proposed system builds upon existing RISC-V specifications, incorporating necessary modifications to enable EBS without requiring processor interruption or stalling. Through validation on an OpenPiton manycore research framework, the authors demonstrate that RVEBS is lightweight, highly accurate, and maintains minimal impact on overall application performance
