Towards a comprehensive pragmatic model of subjectivity: Empirical evidence from French. Dataset. Experimental material

    No full text
This dataset resulted from an online self-paced experiment in which we tested how readers process sentences in which the French Passé Simple is employed in a perspectival manner within two types of subjective contexts: those with Free Indirect Discourse (FID) and those without FID markers. In addition, we tested whether the processing is influenced by the type of emotion expressed in these subjective contexts, whether it is positive or negative. The experiment was designed with E-prime. Each experimental item was composed of three sentences: the context, a sentence biasing the interpretation towards subjective or objective readings, and the target sentence. The dataset consists of the reading times for each of the three sentences composing each experimental item in each experimental condition

    Surface Groups Equatorial Guinea 1984-2021

Surface groups for Equatorial Guinea (years 1984 - 2021) as georeferenced TIF files. Classified land cover (surface) of each pixel indicated as: 0 = built-up surfaces: surfaces with buildings of non-natural materials such as concrete, metal, and glass (e.g., residential buildings, industrial plants, roads) 1 = grassy surfaces: surfaces covered by grass or other plants with similar surface reflectance (e.g., natural grassland, city parks) 2 = surfaces with crop fields: surfaces with vegetation for agricultural purposes (e.g., hayfields, vineyards) 3 = forest-covered surfaces: surfaces covered by trees or other plants with similar surface reflectance (e.g., mixed forests, moors) 4 = surfaces without vegetation: surfaces with (almost) no vegetation or buildings (e.g., bare rock, sand plains) 5 = water surfaces: any type of water surface (e.g., rivers, lakes) 9 = missing surface classification, most likely due to cloud cover If a TIF file for a given year within the observation period is missing, no valid satellite imagery was available for that year (e.g., due to constant cloud cover)

    Narrative features in explainer videos

    No full text
An online experiment was conducted using a one-factorial between- subjects design featuring narrative voice as the independent variable. In the study, two factors were manipulated: the narrative voice (i.e., first-person vs. third-person) and style of address (i.e., direct verbal and physical address vs. no direct verbal and physical address). Participants were recruited in March 2020 via an online access panel provided by respondi. To be eligible for the study, the prospective participants needed to speak English, live in the United Kingdom, and be older than 18 years of age. Participants received approximately 1.40 EUR for participating in the study. A total of 364 participants (Mage = 54.63, SDage = 14.36, N = 362; 61.0% male, 38.7% female, 0.3% diverse) were randomly assigned to the experimental conditions; of these, 186 participants in the first-person condition and 178 in the third-person condition
