Analysis of students’ behavior and progress on Learning Management System using Machine Learning

Many students do not put in sufficient effort at the beginning of the academic year, leading to grades that are insufficient for completing courses or obtaining scholarships. This study aims to analyze and predict student performance on the Moodle platform to provide early interventions and improve academic outcomes. The analysis focused on various courses from the 2023-2024 academic year at SDU University, selected due to their high average number of students and well-established structures. The research involved collecting data on three predictive factors: the number of completed assignments, the total time spent on the course, and the number of actions on the platform. Six machine learning algorithms were applied to predict student performance: k-Nearest Neighbor, Random Forest, Decision Tree, Logistic Regression, Naive Bayes, and Support Vector Machine. The study compared the effectiveness of early prediction at 5, 10, and 15 weeks into the courses. Key findings indicate that student activities on Moodle are significantly correlated with higher academic performance. The Support Vector Machine model showed the best results in the early weeks, while the Random Forest model demonstrated stable results over longer periods. These findings highlight the potential of machine learning models to identify at-risk students early, allowing for timely support and interventions. The implications of this research are significant for educators and administrators. The ability to predict student performance early can facilitate timely interventions, helping students improve their academic results and reduce withdrawal rates. This study contributes to the growing body of knowledge in educational data analysis and learning analytics, providing a foundation for future research to refine and expand predictive capabilities in educational institutions

Removable Singularities of Harmonic Functions on Stratified Sets

    No full text
There are deep historical connections between symmetry, harmonic functions, and stratified sets. In this article, we prove an analog of the removable singularity theorem for bounded harmonic functions on stratified sets. The harmonic functions are understood in the sense of the soft Laplacian. The result can become one of the main technical components for extending the well-known Poincaré–Perron’s method of proving the solvability of the Dirichlet problem for the soft Laplacian

Impact of the use of modern electronic gadgets in the students academic performance in university

    No full text
This study explores the impact of electronic devices on university students’ academic performance. The study uses a sample of 200 students from a university and examines the relationship between electronic device use and academic performance. The findings suggest that electronic device use during lectures and study time has a negative impact on academic performance, with laptops having a more negative impact than tablets or smartphones. The study has important implications for university students, educators, and policymakers, and provides recommendations for practice and policy to promote academic success. This study contributes to the growing body of literature on the impact of electronic devices on academic performance and highlights the need for further research to explore this relationship in different settings and with larger samples

Modeling tuberculosis transmission dynamics in Kazakhstan using SARIMA and SIR models

    Get PDF
Tuberculosis (TB) is a highly contagious disease that remains a global concern affecting numerous countries. Kazakhstan has been facing considerable challenges in TB prevention and treatment for decades. This study aims to understand TB transmission dynamics by developing and comparing statistical and deterministic models: Seasonal Autoregressive Integrated Moving Average (SARIMA) and the basic Susceptible-Infected-Recovered (SIR). TB data from 2014 to 2019 were collected from the Unified National Electronic Health System (UNEHS) using retrospective quantitative analysis. SARIMA models were able to capture seasonal variations, with Model 2 exhibiting superior predictive accuracy. Both models showed declining TB incidence and revealed a notable predictive performance evaluated by statistical metrics. In addition, the SIR model calculated the basic reproduction number (R0) below 1, indicating a receding epidemic. Models proved the capability of each to accurately capture trends (SARIMA) and provide mathematical insights (SIR) into TB transmission dynamics. This study contributes to the general knowledge of TB transmission dynamics in Kazakhstan thus laying the foundation for more comprehensive studies on TB and control strategies

    FACTORIZATIONS AND HARDY TYPE INEQUALITIES

    Get PDF
In this thesis, we derive the Hardy and critical Hardy inequalities using any homogeneous quasi-norm in a unified way. Specifically, we establish a sharp remainder formula for these inequalities. Our identity extend to Hardy and critical Hardy inequalities for the radial derivative operator with any homogeneous quasi-norm, offering enhanced versions of classical results. Our approach is based on the factorization method of differential operators introduced by Gesztesy and Littlejohn. As an application, we show Caffarelli-Kohn-Nirenberg type inequalities with more general weight. Because of the freedom in the choice of any homogeneous quasi-norm, our results give new insights already in both anisotropic R n and isotropic R n . Our results not only generalize existing inequalities but also uncover new perspectives in the study of partial differential equations and functional inequalities. These advances could have significant implications for theoretical research and applications in which anisotropic and isotropic properties are relevant
