Effect of antioxidant vitamins on pelvic pain in endometriosis

    Get PDF
Endometriosis is a chronic gynecological disease affecting approximately 10% of women of reproductive age, characterized by the presence of endometrial-like tissue outside the uterus. Although the disease is benign, its clinical manifestations can seriously impact the quality of life of patients, causing chronic pelvic pain, discomfort, menstrual irregularities, and fertility problems. Chronic pain in endometriosis is explained by inflammatory processes and increased levels of oxidative stress due to the accumulation of free radicals in tissues. Antioxidants, particularly vitamins C and E, play a key role in neutralizing free radicals and can reduce oxidative stress levels. In 2023, specialists led by Afshar conducted a systematic review and metaanalysis aimed at studying the effect of antioxidant vitamins on pelvic pain in women with endometriosis. They analyzed data from several clinical studies comparing the effectiveness of vitamins C and E with a placebo. The results showed that taking these antioxidants can reduce pain intensity and improve the quality of life of patients. The relevance of studying antioxidant vitamins is due to the limitations of existing treatment methods for endometriosis, such as hormonal therapy and surgical intervention, which may have side effects and a high risk of recurrence. Therefore, the search for new approaches, including the use of antioxidants, is important for improving the condition of patients. Vitamins C and E have a synergistic effect: vitamin C helps restore the active form of vitamin E after its interaction with free radicals, making their combined use more effective. Additionally, antioxidants can positively influence the immune system, which is especially important in endometriosis. The aim of this study was to determine whether vitamins C and E can reduce the intensity of pelvic pain and improve the overall health of women with endometriosis

The increasing prevalence of urticaria and its significant impact on the quality of life of patients is a real challenge and a difficult task to solve both for family doctors and for dermatovenerologists. The study of correlations between the dermatological quality of life index (DLQI) and clinical and anamnestic indicators allows a deeper understanding of how this disease affects various aspects of the patients' lives, in particular, taking into account the gender and age characteristics of Ukrainian patients. The obtained results may contribute to the development of more effective and personalized approaches to the treatment and support of patients with urticaria, which in turn will improve their general well-being and quality of life. The aim of the work is to establish the peculiarities of the relationship between the value of the dermatological quality of life index and clinical and anamnestic indicators in young Ukrainian men and women with acute or chronic urticaria of a mild and severe course. Ukrainian men (n=40) and women (n=40) of young age (25-44 years according to the age periodization of WHO, 2015), patients with acute and chronic urticaria of mild and severe course, underwent a clinical, anamnestic and dermatological examination. The degree of negative impact of urticaria on various aspects of patients' lives was determined using the dermatological quality of life index. All patients also underwent a questionnaire to determine the nature of work and various negative factors affecting the skin. The assessment of correlations between the value of the dermatological quality of life index and clinical and anamnestic indicators was carried out using non-parametric statistics of Spearman in the license package "Statistica 6.0". As a result of the conducted studies, multiple direct and inverse correlations, mainly of medium strength and unreliable, were established between the dermatoscopic quality of life index and clinical and anamnestic indicators (in men r= from 0.31 to 0.82 and r= from -0.31 to -0.73; in women r= from 0.30 to 0.71 and r= from -0.31 to -0.75), which have pronounced manifestations of sexual dimorphism both in the number and strength, and often in the direction of the obtained connections

Cancer is one of the most important problems of modern societies. Recently, studies have reported the anticancer properties of rosiglitazone related to its ability to bind peroxisome proliferator receptor γ (PPARγ), which has various effects on cancer and can inhibit cell proliferation. In this study, we investigated the effect of new 4-thiazolidinone (4-TZD) hybrids Les-4369 and Les-3467 and their effect on reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, metabolic activity, lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) release, caspase-3 activity, and gene and protein expression in human foreskin fibroblast (BJ) cells and lung adenocarcinoma (A549) cells. The ROS production and caspase-3 activity were mainly increased in the micromolar concentrations of the studied compounds in both cell lines. Les-3467 and Les-4369 increased the mRNA expression of PPARG, P53 (tumor protein P53), and ATM (ATM serine/threonine kinase) in the BJ cells, while the mRNA expression of these genes (except PPARG) was mainly decreased in the A549 cells treated with both of the tested compounds. Our results indicate a decrease in the protein expression of AhR, PPARγ, and PARP-1 in the BJ cells exposed to 1 µM Les-3467 and Les-4369. In the A549 cells, the protein expression of AhR, PPARγ, and PARP-1 increased in the treatment with 1 µM Les-3467 and Les-4369. We have also shown the PPARγ modulatory properties of Les-3467 and Les-4369. However, both compounds prove weak anticancer properties evidenced by their action at high concentrations and non-selective effects against BJ and A549 cells

The aim of the study was to evaluate the impact of permanent stress and features of medical care in martial law on the indicators of liver function and quality of life of patients with portal hypertension due to liver cirrhosis. Materials and methods. The study included 37 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of liver cirrhosis complicated by portal hypertension and esophageal variceal bleeding. According to performed interventions all patients were divided into 3 groups: Group 1 - endoscopic band ligation and partial splenic artery embolization; Group 2 - endoscopic band ligation; Group 3 - endoscopic band ligation. The difference between Group 2 and Group 3 patients was that Group 2 patients were in a state of permanent stress due to the war. There were 4 visits with an interval of 1 month. At each time point, the levels of laboratory parameters of functional state of the liver and quality of life using RAND SF-36 questionnaire were evaluated. Results. Patients in all three groups during the first month showed an improvement in both laboratory indicators of liver function and integrated quality of life. In patients of Group 1 there was a progressive improvement in both the functional status of the liver and quality of life. In Group 2 the lack of any manipulations and maintenance therapy led to a lack of positive dynamics in patients. Staying in a state of permanent stress led to a progressive deterioration in the condition of patients in Group 3 starting from the second visit. Initially, the deterioration affected only the quality of life, but later it also manifested itself as a violation of the indicators of the functional state of the liver. Conclusions. The cumulative effect of permanent stress in patients with liver cirrhosis complicated by portal hypertension is manifested by an early deterioration in the quality of life with later violations of liver function

The digital transformation of the business environment and the paradigm shift from a seller’s market to a buyer’s market have contributed to the emergence and rapid development of digital content marketing. The article discusses the topic of digital content marketing in general and in particular for the field of distribution trade and agribusiness marketing and its importance for successful online business promotion. This study aims to conceptualise digital content marketing (DCM) in B2B markets and pinpoint contingencies that influence its performance. The study employs the following methods: dialectic and historical, method of generalisation and grouping, analysis and synthesis, deduction and induction, systemic and institutional approaches, and modelling. Logistic and intuitive methods and content analysis were used to determine the features, problems, and trends in developing digital content marketing and value co-creation. Elements of a systematic review and grounded theory were applied when working with literature sources. An attempt has been made to systematise the differences and problem areas of digital content marketing in the B2B sector and “traditional” B2C content marketing. Digital marketing is shown as a strategic approach to realising value cocreation opportunities. Value co-creation (VCC) is an example of how group creativity may promote development, loyalty, and mutual success – vitally crucial in business-to-business interactions. This approach is claimed to be especially important for industries such as agriculture, offering synergetic instruments

    Get PDF
The chitinous skeleton of the marine demosponge Ianthella basta exhibits a unique networklike 3D architecture, excellent capillary properties, and chemical inertness, making it highly suitable for interdisciplinary research, especially in biomedical applications. This study investigates the potential of renewable I. basta chitinous scaffolds for drug delivery and wound dressing. The scaffolds, characterized by a microtubular structure, were impregnated with selected commercially available antiseptics, including solutions with hydrophilic and hydrophobic properties. Evaluations against selected clinical strains of bacteria, as well as fungi, demonstrated significant zones of growth inhibition with antiseptics such as brilliant green, gentian violet, decamethoxine, and polyhexanide. Notably, the antibacterial properties of these antiseptic-treated chitin matrices persisted for over 72 h, effectively inhibiting microbial growth in fresh cultures. These findings highlight the considerable potential of I. basta chitin scaffolds as sustainable, innovative biomaterials for controlled drug release and wound dressing applications
