It is observable through active involvement of salafi groups in politics in certain countries affected by revolutions. However, salafī–political advocators seems emerged earlier in Malaysia, compare to their counterparts in Egypt. Malaysian Salafi joined themselves in UMNO party (the United Malays National Organization) in 2009, and justified  their involvement in the party  as following salafi method, based on   the notion of “absolute obedience to the ruler,” ‘prohibition of secession from the ruler,” and “necessity renders prohibited things permissible” Such involvement in political life is considered as bringing mileage to the salafī as well as the political party itself, even though the  involvement initially based on gaining certain political benefit. Using historical and descriptive methodology, this article attempts to characterize  raison detré as well as  religious motives underneath  the framework of those salafī advocators. The aim of this study is to discover Dā‘ish movement in Malaysia which is considered as a threat to society and the country to identify its networks and links with the global terrorist movement, and also the way they are involved in this terrorist activity. It is conducted based on government reports and in-depth interviews with 30 detainees at Sungai Buloh Prison, Malaysia, to hear directly from them on their backgrounds and affiliations and the reasons which led them to embrace this movement, and to trace the pinnacle of their terrorist ideas. This terrorist movement is considered as a threat to the country and society and the number of detainees associated with the terrorist activity is increasing year by year. The result of the study is that not all the detainees belonged to the movement of "dā'ish" alone, but part of them belonged to other groups, and that not all the detainees belonged to the Jihādī Salafī ideology, but part of them joined the jihād in Syria for helping the Syrian people against Assad regime. The most important point is that most of them are not from religious backgrounds but in their perception they are better than others in understanding religion. Study shows that moderate scholars has crucial role in guiding Muslim youth to convey them the true meaning of religion and to guide them to the right path and understanding

This paper examines a writing of the late William Montgomery Watt’s (1909-2006) monumental work entitled Muslim-Christian Encounters: Perceptions and Misperceptions that is related to the legacy of study of religions. The authors emphasize on Watt’s important claim that due to Muslims’ tradition of Islamic self-sufficiency or showing no interest in studying doctrines of other religions, has led to the dearth of literatures in the field. This study employed a qualitative methodology in which the textual analysis approach was applied on Watt’s writing. The findings indicate that there are seven examples provided by Watt to strengthen his notion of Islamic self-sufficiency, each of whom has methodological flaw and opens room for criticism and improvement.  This paper examines a writing of the late William Montgomery Watt’s (1909-2006) monumental work entitled Muslim-Christian Encounters: Perceptions and Misperceptions that is related to the legacy of study of religions. One of the most brilliant contributions of Ismail Raji al-Faruqi (1921-1986) is his writings in the field of Islamic Thought. His masterpiece Al-Tawḥīd: It’s Implications for Thought and Life is indeed a great and refreshing contribution to the modern Islamic Worldview. This paper discusses selected traditional religious terminologies which have been redefined by al-Faruqi in his Al-Tawhid thus given new meanings, and implications. The selected terms taken from Al-Tawhid and analysed in this paper are ilāh, tawḥīd, īmān, ‘ibādah and ummah. The old meanings of these terms are compared with the new ones. Much positive ethical implications to Islamic practice can be discerned from the new meanings of the terms analysed. The new meanings of these terms contribute more positively to the practice and understanding of Islam to the new generation in a relevant and beneficial way in our modern time and society.  One of the most brilliant contributions of Ismail Raji al-Faruqi (1921-1986) is his writings in the field of Islamic Thought. oai:ojs2.journals.iium.edu.my:article/10This paper offers an examination of the scholarship of Dāwūd al-Faṭānī in dealing with the revealed sources (naqlī) and qualified scholarship in the exercise of the intellect (‘aqlī) in affirming the Islamic creed. The author emphasizes the determination of Dāwūd al-Faṭānī on the need to refer to the authority of naqlī and ‘aqlī so as to guard against deviation and exceeding the proper limits of methodological practices towards theological goal of knowing God (ma‘rifat Allāh). A qualitative methodology in which the textual analysis and comparative study was employed to analyse textual materials related to Dāwūd al-Faṭānī especially his writing, the Ward al-Zawāhir.  Findings indicate that Dāwūd al-Faṭānī attempted to integrate the naqlī and ‘aqlī approaches, and harmonize such distinctions in dealing with theological approaches especially that of Salaf and Khalaf’s.This paper offers an examination of the scholarship of Dāwūd al-Faṭānī in dealing with the revealed sources (naqlī) and qualified scholarship in the exercise of the intellect (‘aqlī) in affirming the Islamic creed.
