Practices for supporting relatives of patients in the agonal phase by an interdisciplinary team in palliative care units. consensus research (PROPAGE 2)

No full text
International audienceCONTEXT: In the absence of existing recommendations, the objective of this study was to establish a consensus of the support practices used in an interdisciplinary team in a palliative care unit (PCU) for the relatives of patients in the agonal phase. METHOD: This is a consensus study using the Delphi technique. 40 French PCUs participated in this study, including 204 professionals (nurses, nursing assistants, doctors, psychologists, social workers), 42 support volunteers and 32 relatives. These experts responded to a questionnaire comprised of a list drawn up from the results of a preliminary study conducted at Bordeaux University Hospital of 55 practices organised around four topics: providing care and ensuring comfort; communicating, informing and explaining; interacting; and mobilising interdisciplinarity skills. RESULTS: Thirty-five practices were approved by the agreement of professionals, volunteers and relatives. 11 were approved only by professionals/volunteers and 6 only by relatives. Three practices were deemed inappropriate by participants. CONCLUSIONS: These results highlight consensual practices of care during agonal phase in specialized palliative care services and the importance of the quality of care given to patients, of counselling, and the attention paid to the relatives themselves. They will guide and enrich training modules for teams working with relatives

Nicolas Dufourcq, the director of the public investment bank Bpifrance, a subsidiary of the Caisse des dépôts et consignations, has asserted himself as the promoter of the investment plans for SMEs and midcaps as part of the reindustrialization project in France, the development of innovative sectors and support for medium-sized companies in their growth. Scrutinizing the history of this voluntarism inspired by economic patriotism allows us to reconstruct the emergence of a financial tool also intended to serve as a lever for the forces of new technologies.

Interplays between preparation and processing of the catalyst ink in the manufacturing of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell catalyst layer

International audienceProton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cells (PEMFCs) have been paving the way for clean mobility for the past few decades. Catalyst inks are formulated for Catalyst Layer (CL) fabrication of PEMFCs. Despite the overall electrode fabrication process being quite simple and numerous innovations on PEMFC components having emerged, there is to this day no state-of-the-art rationalization of formulating inks and fabricating CLs. This grey area comes from a lack of understanding on the links between properties, structures and performance within the CL fabrication process. In this paper, the catalyst ink preparation process is first reviewed. Primarily composed of an ionomer, a catalyst and a solvent, the catalyst ink may also include additives such as antioxidants. Providing an analysis of catalyst ink components properties, this review highlights progress on this multi-component system, as well as on formulation methods, thus underlining the tight links between components interactions and catalyst ink properties. This review further provides considerations on ink coa\ng and drying processes. Once formulated, the catalyst ink is coated via spraying or printing techniques, each giving rise to various structural, mechanical or chemical specificities. Along the same lines, the choices for drying the thinly coated ink layer are numerous and of various implications. More specifically, this review provides an analysis on the intertwining between ink properties, coating and drying options and implications on the catalyst layer properties. Essentially, the goal of this review is to uncover the feedback-driven, iterative dynamics underlying the PEMFC catalyst layer fabrication process.</div

Screening of Stevia rebaudiana (Bertoni) susceptibility to Septoria steviae through leaf disk inoculation

No full text
International audienceStevia rebaudiana Bertoni is a perennial cultivated plant that produces steviol glycosides, natural acaloric sweet compounds in its leaves. Many pathogens are capable of infecting this species. Among these pathogens, Septoria steviae, the causal agent of Septoria Leaf Spot, is the most widely described on S. rebaudiana. The objective of this study is to validate a leaf disk screening method for S. rebaudiana response to Septoria steviae infection on 10 S. rebaudiana genotypes with contrasting responses to the fungus. Three independent experiments were carried out in which forty leaf discs per genotype were infected with an inoculum at a concentration of 105 conidia / mL or with water. The response of the 10 genotypes was scored through image analysis. Image analysis was conducted at 9, 12, 15, 18 and 21 days after inoculation (DAI), allowing the proportion of symptomatic foliar area (PLSA) and AUDPC to be quantified. The evaluation of symptom speed development was realized through a linear regression between PLSA and time, for each tested genotype. Genotypes exhibited the lowest susceptibility at 21 DAI, with Cult102_SPA and Cult76_GER displaying 3% of the surface symptomatic. Genotypes with the highest susceptibility were Cult33_FRA and Cult75_GER, with 24% severity. These results correlate with visual scoring performed at 21 DAI and with previous inoculation protocols on S. rebaudiana cuttings, by maintaining the ranking of the different genotypes whatever the test. The development of a leaf-disk inoculation method offers new avenues for breeding strategies to develop tolerant or resistant S. rebaudiana cultivars

International audienceThis presentation explores M. Burawoy's theoretical and methodological frameworks and questioning their applicability to a study of platform-based commodified reproductive labour. While originally developed for industrial labor, Burawoy’s concepts of consent, control, and production regimes offer insights into algorithmic management and worker subjectivities in feminized, racialized, precarious sectors. We highlight key limitations in Burawoy’s approach, especially its focus on production over reproduction, and its limited treatment of race. Despite these, the framework is adapted to analyze how consent is produced under digital capitalism. Burawoy’s Extended Case Method proves useful in connecting micro-level experiences with macro-structural transformations. Ultimately, his work is positioned as an evolving tool to understand labor in the age of platforms.
