No full textInternational audienceDynamic difficulty adjustment (DDA) is a key mechanism for maintaining player engagement in video games. This study compares two types of DDA: one based on player performance, and the other on pupil size, a physiological indicator reflecting arousal and cognitive load. Forty-four participants played two sessions of Tetris using these two adjustment methods. Flow experience was measured using a standardized scale and an innovative temporal graphtracing method. Although no significant difference was observed on average in flow scores, exploratory results show that pupil-based adjustment leads to more frequent changes in game difficulty and a generally higher effective level of challenge, without degrading performance or the players' flow experience. These results highlight the potential of difficulty adjustments based on the player's physiological state and open up new perspectives for affective game design

« Blanche-Neige » à la scène aujourd’hui : options dramaturgiques
No full textInternational audienceStage adaptations of the most famous of the Grimm fairy tales proliferated from the 1940s onwards, under the influence of Disney's animated feature films: the BnF's general catalog lists various types of adaptations - ballet, fairy tale, comedy show, musical, etc. Less numerous, the published plays are more often than not parodic in nature, and aim to entertain young readers by playing with their literary culture. We propose to focus on a more demanding form of creative theater, based on a corpus of recent plays that take a singular approach to the age-old tale. Each of these theatrical rewrites deserves attention, whether the tale advances masked (Fanny Carel, Fleur d'hiver, L'École des loisirs, 2014), cultivates its poetic fiber (Christophe Sigognault, Blanche-Neige tragédie, Julien Nègre éditeur, 2019), updates its diegesis (Samuel Hercule and Métilde Weyergans, Blanche Neige ou La chute du mur de Berlin, La ville brûle, 2016) or dynamites the character system (Marie Dilasser Blanche-Neige, histoire d'un prince, Les Solitaires intempestifs, 2019). The dramaturgical choices made in these plays testify to the diversity of discourses addressed to young people based on one of the world's best-known texts. They can be read alongside the play for adults by Claudine Galéa - also an author for young people - who, in Blanche Neige foutue forêt (Éditions espaces 34, 2018), includes the fairy tale in her list of characters.Les adaptations à la scène du plus célèbre des contes des Grimm se multiplient à partir des années 1940, sous l’influence du long métrage d’animation de Disney : le catalogue général de la BnF en recense différentes modalités – ballet, féerie, spectacle humoristique, comédie musicale, etc. Moins nombreuses, les pièces publiées relèvent le plus souvent du genre parodique et visent à divertir le jeune lecteur en jouant avec sa culture littéraire. Nous proposons de nous attacher à un théâtre de création plus exigeant, à partir d’un corpus de pièces récentes qui se fondent de manière singulière sur le récit séculaire. Chacune de ces réécritures théâtrales mérite attention, que le conte avance masqué (Fanny Carel, Fleur d’hiver, L’École des loisirs, 2014), cultive sa fibre poétique (Christophe Sigognault, Blanche-Neige tragédie, Julien Nègre éditeur, 2019), actualise sa diégèse (Samuel Hercule et Métilde Weyergans, Blanche Neige ou La chute du mur de Berlin, La ville brûle, 2016) ou dynamite le système des personnages (Marie Dilasser Blanche-Neige, histoire d'un prince, Les Solitaires intempestifs, 2019). The argumentative skills of middle school students on socio-scientific issues: investigating the effects of debates and reflective activities
No full textInternational audienceThe acculturation of students to argumentation on socio-scientific issues (SSI) requires them to develop argumentation skills (justification, consideration of others’ arguments, questioning) while at the same time becoming familiar with the specific norms of this type of argumentation: consideration of arguments from different domains (complexity), uncertainties related to knowledge and future developments in society (uncertainty), and different stakeholders, with their viewpoints, interests and values (openness). The study presented in this paper examines the effects of an intervention involving four computer-mediated debates and four reflective activities, in which the norms of SSI argumentation are discussed on the basis of students’ productions. The aim is to assess the impact of this intervention on middle school students’ written argumentation skills and to identify any differences between grades 6 and 8. The intervention was implemented in 19 classes of three middle schools in France by teachers of biology, history-geography, literature, physics-chemistry, and technology. The effects were measured by comparing argumentation of the students (N = 282) in the first and fourth debates. The results show positive changes in the norms of justification and consideration of others’ arguments (with more rebuttals and nuances). The three specific argumentation norms related to the SSI were also found to be applied more appropriately at the end of the intervention, although uncertainties related to the SSI were less addressed. In addition, only 6th graders showed improvement in rebuttal, while only 8th graders showed progress in questioning and considering the openness of the SSI
