Relaxed-inertial proximal point algorithms for problems involving strongly quasiconvex functions
International audienceIntroduced in the 1970's by Martinet for minimizing convex functions and extended shortly afterward by Rockafellar towards monotone inclusion problems, the proximal point algorithm turned out to be a viable computational method for solving various classes of optimization problems, in particular with nonconvex objective functions. We propose first a relaxed-inertial proximal point type algorithm for solving optimization problems consisting in minimizing strongly quasiconvex functions whose variables lie in finitely dimensional linear subspaces. The method is then extended to equilibrium problems where the involved bifunction is strongly quasiconvex in the second variable.Possible modifications of the hypotheses that would allow the algorithms to solve similar problems involving quasiconvex functions are discussed, too. Numerical experiments confirming the theoretical results, in particular that the relaxed-inertial algorithms outperform their ``pure'' proximal point counterparts, are provided, too
Cybersecurity for Industrial Internet of Things: Architecture, Models and Lessons Learned
International audienceModern industrial systems now, more than ever, require secure and efficient ways of communication. The trend of making connected, smart architectures is beginning to show in various fields of the industry such as manufacturing and logistics. The number of IoT (Internet of Things) devices used in such systems is naturally increasing and industry leaders want to define business processes which are reliable, reproducible, and can be effortlessly monitored. With the rise in number of connected industrial systems, the number of used IoT devices also grows and with that some challenges arise. Cybersecurity in these types of systems is crucial for their wide adoption. Without safety in communication and threat detection and prevention techniques, it can be very difficult to use smart, connected systems in the industry setting. In this paper we describe two real-world examples of such systems while focusing on our architectural choices and lessons learned. We demonstrate our vision for implementing a connected industrial system with secure data flow and threat detection and mitigation strategies on real-world data and IoT devices. While our system is not an off-the-shelf product, our architecture design and results show advantages of using technologies such as Deep Learning for threat detection and Blockchain enhanced communication in industrial IoT systems and how these technologies can be implemented. We demonstrate empirical results of various components of our system and also the performance of our system as-a-whole
The Lannion report on Big Data and Security Monitoring Research
International audienceDuring the last decade, big data management has attracted increasing interest from both the industrial and academic communities. In parallel, Cyber Security has become mandatory due to various and more intensive threats. In June 2022, a group of researchers has met to reflect on their community's impacts on current research challenges. In particular, they have considered four dimensions: (1) dedicated systems being data processing and analytic platforms or time series management systems; (2) graphs analytics and distributed computation; (3) privacy; and (4) new hardware
Finite volumes method for the cell electrical model
International audienceWe present a finite volumes method to model and simulate the exposition of a biological cell to a nanosecond electric pulse in the view of electropermeabilization description. A quasi-static electric model based on the metal-dielectric equivalence is proposed for conduction modeling. A Poisson equation is solved. The method - Discrete Dual Finite Volume method (DDFV) - is shown to be efficient in taking electric jump conditions at the cell membrane. The advantages of the method are presented on axisymmetric 2D classic problems

Learning to Guide and to Be Guided in the Architect-Builder Problem
International audienceWe are interested in interactive agents that learn to coordinate, namely, a -- which performs actions but ignores the goal of the task, i.e. has no access to rewards -- and an which guides the builder towards the goal of the task. We define and explore a formal setting where artificial agents are equipped with mechanisms that allow them to simultaneously learn a task while at the same time evolving a shared communication protocol. Ideally, such learning should only rely on high-level communication priors and be able to handle a large variety of tasks and meanings while deriving communication protocols that can be reused across tasks. We present the Architect-Builder Problem (ABP): an asymmetrical setting in which an architect must learn to guide a builder towards constructing a specific structure. The architect knows the target structure but cannot act in the environment and can only send arbitrary messages to the builder. The builder on the other hand can act in the environment, but receives no rewards nor has any knowledge about the task, and must learn to solve it relying only on the messages sent by the architect. Crucially, the meaning of messages is initially not defined nor shared between the agents but must be negotiated throughout learning. Under these constraints, we propose Architect-Builder Iterated Guiding (ABIG), a solution to ABP where the architect leverages a learned model of the builder to guide it while the builder uses self-imitation learning to reinforce its guided behavior. We analyze the key learning mechanisms of ABIG and test it in 2D tasks involving grasping cubes, placing them at a given location, or building various shapes. ABIG results in a low-level, high-frequency, guiding communication protocol that not only enables an architect-builder pair to solve the task at hand, but that can also generalize to unseen tasks

High order direct parametrisation of invariant manifolds for model order reduction of finite element structures: application to generic forcing terms and parametrically excited systems
International audienceThe direct parametrisation method for invariant manifolds is used for model order reduction of forced-damped mechanical structures subjected to geometric nonlinearities. Nonlinear mappings are introduced, allowing one to pass from the degrees of freedom of the finite-element model to the normal coordinates. Arbitrary order of expansions are considered for the unknown mappings and the reduced dynamics, which are then solved sequentially through the homological equations, for both autonomous and time-dependent terms. It is emphasized that the two problems share a similar structure, which can be used for an efficient implementation of the non-autonomous added terms. A special emphasis is also put on the new resonance conditions arising due to the presence of the external forcing frequencies, which allows predicting phenomena such as parametric excitation and isolas formation. The method is then applied to structures of academic and industrial interest. First, the large amplitude vibrations of a forceddamped cantilever beam are studied. This example highlights that high order non-autonomous terms are compulsory to correctly estimate the maximum vibration amplitude experienced by the structure. The birth of isolated solutions is also illustrated on this example. The cantilever is then used to show how quadratic coupling creates conditions for the excitation of the parametric instability, all these features being correctly embedded in the reduction process. A shallow arch excited with multi-modal forcing is then studied to detail different forcing effects. Finally, the approach is validated on a structure of industrial relevance, i.e. a comb driven micro-electro-mechanical resonator. The accuracy and computational performance reported suggest that the proposed methodology can accurately predict the nonlinear dynamic response of a large class of nonlinear vibratory systems
Frequency combs in a MEMS resonator featuring 1:2 internal resonance: ab initio reduced order modelling and experimental validation
International audienceAbstract This paper is devoted to a detailed analysis of the appearance of frequency combs in the dynamics of a micro-electro-mechanical systems (MEMS) resonator featuring 1:2 internal resonance. To that purpose, both experiments and numerical predictions are reported and analysed to predict and follow the appearance of the phononic frequency comb arising as a quasi-periodic regime between two Neimark-Sacker bifurcations. Numerical predictions are based on a reduced-order model built thanks to an implicit condensation method, where both mechanical nonlinearities and electrostatic forces are taken into account. The reduced order model is able to predict a priori, i.e. without the need of experimental calibration of parameters, and in real time, i.e. by solving one or two degrees-of-freedom system of equations, the nonlinear behaviour of the MEMS resonator. Numerical predictions show a good agreement with experiments under different operating conditions, thus proving the great potentiality of the proposed simulation tool. In particular, the bifurcation points and frequency content of the frequency comb are carefully predicted by the model, and the main features of the periodic and quasi-periodic regimes are given with accuracy, underlining that the complex dynamics of such MEMS device is effectively driven by the characteristics of the 1:2 internal resonance
