Coherence in the Qurʾān: Principles and Applications
Get PDFThe differences and at times seemingly contradictory interpretation of Qurʾanic āyāt (verses) by scholars belies the notion that the Qurʾanic message is universal and relevant to all situations and settings. One reason for this problem is the erroneous belief that the Qurʾanic āyāt do not form an integral whole. It needs be emphasized that the Qurʾanic statements constitute an integral whole. To appreciate this integral aspect of the Qurʾanic statements, it is necessary to identify the linkages among āyāt of a surah (chapter) by following certain principles
Political Regime and Sustainable Development: A Comparative Analysis of Muslim Countries
Get PDFThis paper examines the interrelationship between regime type and development. It argues that proper resource utilization through investment in a stable environment constitutes the vital element of growth, which in turn, can be translated into materializing human development based on longevity, literacy and real purchasing power. Apart from the type of the regime, the ideological commitment also has a bearing on regime performance. A comparative study of six Muslim countries from three regions suggests that political stability in concomitant with dynamism, flexibility, and continuity of appropriate and effective policies play a vital role in regime performance. The most important observation is the role of a stable democratic regime in ensuring a sustainable development based on a balance between economic and political democracy. It appears that an authoritarian regime can survive only with faster rate of growth while a regime with reasonable degree of economic and political democracy can survive even with a moderately lower but sustainable rate of growth
Communication Ethics at Workplace
Get PDFThis study attempts to find out the level of communication ethics practiced in Northern University of Malaysia (UUM) and International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) and its relationship with personal and organizational factors at workplace. The study found that the respondents (UUM = 230 and IIUM = 145) practiced a high standard of communication ethics. It is a good sign because Malaysia’s vision of becoming the centre of educational excellence in the Asian region will be materialized through the ethical practices of University staff
