The analysis of various issues debated in this newspaper contributed to the social history of Malaya and of the Malay community within Malaya. The issues raised in Saudara are echoed in contemporary Malaysia with varying emphasis and elements
Non-Muslim Views about Islam and Muslims in Malaysia: An Empirical Study
Get PDFAbstract: Based upon sample survey and interviews, this study attempts to find out the views of Malaysian non-Muslims about Islam and Muslims in Malaysia. Such a study is warranted because of the plural nature of Malaysian society whose stability depends upon harmonious relations between various ethnic and religious groups The survey sample is composed of various educated segments, professionals and university students. The study found that majority of non-Muslims hold positive opinion about their counterpart in Malaysia which augurs well for the stability of the country. Nevertheless, there exists a good number of people holding a negative opinion about Islam and Muslims implying, therefore, the need for more concerted efforts about improving the image of Islam and Muslims in Malaysia

Muslim Political Elite and the Revival of the Left in Indonesian Politics (1996-2001)
Get PDFAbstract: Based upon elite interviews, document analysis and library research, this study analyses the responses of the Indonesian Muslim political elite to the phenomena of the emergence of the alleged communist Partai Rakyat Demokratik (People’s Democratic Party) and the flourishing of the Leftist books in Indonesia during 1996-2001 which is one of the most critical historical phases in Indonesian politics that witnessed significant political changes affecting the life of Indonesians in general and Muslims in particular. The adverse responses of most Muslim political elite to the revival of the Left are basically driven by the interweaving of theological, historical and political factors as well as traumatic historical experience. With the passage of time, there have been significant changes, and strained relations between Islamic political groups and the Leftists have thawed but not eliminated

No full textAbstract: Ibn Taymiyyah wrote the six-volumed al-Jawāb al-Ṣaḥīḥ li Man Baddala Dīn al-Masīḥ in response to the short treatise of 24 pages by the Melkite Bishop of Saida in modern Lebanon. A textual analysis of al-Jawāb al- Ṣaḥīḥ proves the versatility of its author and the consistent method he had adopted in correcting the erroneous views held by Christians, Muslim innovators and hypocrites concerning God, Trinity, Incarnation and other aspects. Using revelational and rational arguments, he argues the authenticity of Islam as a way of life and its messenger as a mercy for mankind
