Full text linkICT has been recently developed into a digital sustainable collaborative networking (DCN) platform, and it is expected to be capable of demonstrating the building of social and economic welfare, particularly in crafting innovations to facilitate marginal society.This research attempts to develop an innovative platform of an empirical ICT application a branchless banking form based on ICT Model. The application of Branchless banking model is expected to address the poverty problem which is significantly high in Indonesia. Indonesia is known for it’s heterogeneous values in terms of its areas, ethics, traditions, customs, communities, and local wisdom. The newly introduced application of a mobile payment system is parallel to the vision, and mission upheld by the government. Currently, most literature and practices are just partial. The community model based on Islamic microfinance and Cooperatives is neglected. Therefore, this research aims to design branchless banking in terms of financial inclusion involving Islamic microfinance and Cooperatives. Furthermore, this paper also attempts to test to what extent the proposed model is viable in the current system. This study employs a qualitative approach by conducting an interview with the stakeholders and a deductive method is used to explore and design the proposed model. The finding exhibit that branchless banking based on an Islamic microfinance and a Cooperative model is more flexible and easily acceptable while crafting a deal with Indonesian. In addition, the proposed model is viable in the current system. By implementing this model, the economy can be strengthened toward national unity and a welfare state
Cooperative Takaful for Non-Banking Financial Institutions: Islamization of SOCSO in the case of Malaysia
Full text linkBy the introduction of Takaful as an alternative for conventional insurance in the early 1980s and with more than 30 year experience in Islamic Banking and Finance, it is time for Malaysia to make a move in completing its Islamic financial ecosystem by islamizing non-Banking Financial Institutions. This paper aims to investigate a potential approach to apply the concept of cooperative Takaful in transforming the Social Security Organization (SOCSO) into a Shariah-compliant institution using the concept of cooperative Takaful by emphasizing the similarity between current practices of SOCSO and cooperative Takaful. This paper highlights the difference between normal Takaful and cooperative Takaful. This paper proposes that the cooperative Takaful i.e. Musharakah Ta’awuniyyah model to aid the integration and transformation of SOCSO into a Shariah compliant institution. The contribution of this paper is twofold: First, this paper contributes to the existing literature on application of Musharakah Ta’awuniyyah as another alternative for the Takaful model. Second, it provides the possibility for SOCSO to convert its operation to Shariah compliant concept
Resurgent voices on the Israel-Palestine conflict: An appraisal of the alternative pathways towards resolving the conflict
Full text linkThis review discusses the changing perceptions and resurgent voices towards the peaceful solution of the Israel-Palestine conflict. The review draws on studies, presented in five recent books, conducted by specialists in the area of (Israel-Palestine) Conflict Resolution and International Studies. The question of whether the two-state solution is still feasible has caused much debate in various academic and public spheres over the last decade or so. The studies, conducted both inside and outside of Israel and Palestine, provide ample support that there have been growing dissenting voices and increasing peaceful resistance against the dominant view of the two-statism that divides territory and segregates the indigenous population with its history of harmony and coexistence. Despite their different views, the authors collectively maintain that in the current milieu of deadlock in the peace process, there is an urgent need to rethink and reformulate the two-state solution that perpetuates the Israeli hegemony and the unleashing of various discriminatory measures against the Palestinian population. Based on some key-common themes pervasive in the works under review, there is ample and growing support to the claim that the one-state solution offers a wider perspective of equal human rights and justice
Media ethics and the coverage of Islam: Some preliminary observations on the British media
Full text linkThe way Muslims are portrayed in the media is now a very contentious issue. This article makes a preliminary investigation of how the Western media views and responds to Islamic issues with special emphasis being placed upon those Muslims who live as minority groups in predominantly white societies. Much of the contention appears to be based upon cultural norms rather than specific religious doctrinal differences. Thus the historical background as to how the western society has derived its ethical value system through scholars such as Aristotle, Kant and Mill, rather than a combination of ethical and moral values as is the case with Islam is examined. A brief consideration of how ethical and moral values are presented within the Holy Bible and the Holy Qur’ān illustrates this point. In conjunction with this preliminary analysis a number of pertinent articles by modern scholars such as Said, Foreman, Kabir and Cohen have been considered to examine Muslim behavior, particularly within British society and determine if the complaints made by Muslims of media victimization are justified. In conclusion, this article suggests that the media are actually operating within their own concept of ethical boundaries and if Muslims wish to be viewed in a more positive light they must then ‘walk the talk’ they eulogize by actually following more closely the moral and ethical values outlined within the Holy Qur’ān
Stages of development in Arabic philosophical nomenclature: Emergence, progression and stability
Full text linkThe study of the creation of a technical language within an existing natural language reveals to us both the internal and external dynamics of this complex phenomenon. The history of Arabic lexical definitions of different disciplines in the historical Islamic civilization provides us with a wealth of information on how these processes take place at each level of development. In this article while we will be highlighting on the history of Arabic intellectual lexical definitions we will focus on the development of the disciplines that constitute the Arabic philosophical technical languages i.e. Kalām and falsafah. In each discipline we closely followed the three conventional phases of development i.e. emergence, progression and stability. It should be remarked that though there are distinctive features of each phase, yet there are equally overlaps among these phases. This study brought to our attention the significant place of al-Taʿrifat of al-Jurjānī as the most sophisticated dictionary of sciences in the historical Islamic civilization
Role of Ar-Rahnu as Micro-Credit Instrument in Achieving Financial Self-Sufficiency among Women Micro-Entrepreneurs
Full text linkCompared to conventional pawnbroking, Islamic pawnbroking (or ar-rahnu) is relatively a recent product in the financial market. More recently, however, ar-rahnu-based microcredit facility has grown in importance over the past few years due to the increased awareness on Islamic finance in Malaysia and is increasingly a popular financing option, particularly among women micro-entrepreneurs. This study examines the role of ar-rahnu as a micro-credit instrument among women micro-entrepreneurs and aims to understand how the use of ar-rahnu could help them to achieve financial self-sufficiency. In achieving these objectives, the study conducts a survey on women micro-entrepreneurs in the Siti Khadijah market in Kelantan. Findings of the study are useful for the relevant authorities to take initiatives to promote Islamic-based micro-credit instruments, especially among women micro-entrepreneurs
