Choosing the Theory: Factors Influencing Early Career Professional Counselors: An Exploratory Factor Analysis
No full textThe purpose of this study was to collect and analyze data on the existence and interpretability of factors that could contribute to the selection of a theoretical orientation by early career licensed professional counselors. Previous studies conducted on this topic have been primarily qualitative in design and phenomenological in nature, warranting this quantitative project. To collect this data, the researcher created the Theoretical Choice Factor Itemization survey to identify those factors pertinent to early career counselor theoretical choice selection and provide a foundation for continued research on this topic. Following a pilot study including a small sample of counselors (n=5), the researcher utilized Exploratory Factor Analysis (EFA) with a larger sample size (n=77) to determine the existence and interpretability of factors in the participants\u27 responses. Upon survey analysis, the researcher identified six key components, including academic and supervision experiences, intimate relationship experiences, clinical setting experiences, spiritual experiences, and applied counseling experiences, each presenting with eigenvalues of over 2.0 from 13 constructs. Study findings evidenced implications for refining academic and supervision practices surrounding early counselor theory selection
Campus Administrators’ and Teachers’ Perceptions of Social Media Usage in North Texas Suburban K–6 Elementary Schools: A Narrative Inquiry Study
No full textThe use of social media in the classroom is growing throughout the world. In fact, social media is a part of the everyday life of both students and educators. The primary purpose of using social media in the educational setting is to enhance student learning; however, some teachers are reluctant to incorporate social media into their classroom. In this narrative inquiry qualitative study, the researcher explored the perceptions of campus administrators and teachers regarding social media, specifically, instructional planning, instructional delivery, and student learning in a district in North Texas suburban K-6 elementary schools. It is the researcher’s hope that evidence from the study enhances student learning and helps put reluctant teachers at ease
The Rotational Period Distribution of Massive Magnetic White Dwarfs
No full textRapidly rotating white dwarfs (WDs) have the potential to come about by either double degenerate mergers or weak coupling between the core and the outer envelope during the asymptotic giant branch (AGB). For both cases, knowledge of the rotational period distribution places tight constraints on the evolution of angular momentum transfer. Here we present initial results from a study of the rotational period distribution of 19 massive (M \u3e 0:9M), magnetic, DA WDs observed by the Transiting Exoplanet Survey Satellite (TESS) and 17 observed with ground-based telescopes and analyzed with the Lightkurve python package. We present periodograms, folded light curves, and statistics from this sample. We also discuss ongoing searches to increase the sample size of massive, magnetic rotating WDs. We find that at least 30% of targeted WDs vary with periods as short as 3 minutes. Our rotational period distribution is similar to previous studies of magnetic white dwarf rotation, yet remains distinct from the majority of normal field WDs
Examining Targeted Factors That Influence High Conflict Divorce Parenting Behaviors for Future Interventions
No full textHigh-conflict divorce, so named due to its sometimes-contentious nature, floods our legal and judicial systems due to parents’ inability to come to decisions based on their children. There is an abundance of research on post-divorce interventions but not for pre-divorce processes. Understanding what is needed to help these families preemptively before problems are escalated could aid not only families but also the legal and judicial system. Inviting therapeutic interventions and becoming part of a multi-disciplinary team alongside the legal and justice system could bring relief to an already difficult situation. The researcher was interested in both the total scores from the assessment as well as the sub-scales. A sample of 86 individuals were recruited through both email and Facebook. Participants completed a survey with demographic information and the assessment measure Multidimensional Co-Parenting Scale for Dissolved Relationships (MCS-DR). The researcher used multiple regression analysis in this study. The results revealed significant relationships in three of the sub-scales with one of the sub-scales failing to meet significance in the multiple regression model. Limitations, implications, and recommendations for future interventions and research are provided
A Descriptive Study of Individual-Level Factors That Influence Secondary Content Teacher Language Ideologies
No full textThis quantitative study investigates the influence of individual-level factors on the linguistic ideologies of content teachers at the secondary level, using a conceptual replication of the Beliefs About Language Survey psychometrically validated by Fitzsimmons-Doolan in 2011. Drawing on a sociocultural lens of language ideologies, the study aims to understand how to support the academic advancement of emergent bilinguals and provide guidance for educational stakeholders on professional development and policy reform. The study uses a non-experimental descriptive design to explore the relationship between individual-level factors and language ideologies. The survey responses were collected through a Qualtrics tool and targeted Texas teachers’ group members via a Facebook advertising campaign. Descriptive statistics, factor analysis, and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data collected from eligible participants. The findings reveal that certain individual-level factors, including gender, age, political affiliation, content taught, and years of teaching experience, significantly influence teacher language ideologies
A Mathematical Modeling Technique to Understand the Role of Decoy Receptors in Ligand‑receptor Interaction
No full textThe ligand‑receptor interaction is fundamental to many cellular processes in eukaryotic cells such as cell migration, proliferation, adhesion, signaling and so on. Cell migration is a central process in the development of organisms. Receptor induced chemo‑tactic sensitivity plays an important role in cell migration. However, recently some receptors identified as decoy receptors, obstruct some mechanisms of certain regular receptors. DcR3 is one such important decoy receptor, generally found in glioma cell, RCC cell and many various malignant cells which obstruct some mechanism including apoptosis cell‑signaling, cell inflammation, cell migration. The goal of our work is to mathematically formulate ligand‑receptor interaction induced cell migration in the presence of decoy receptors. We develop here a novel mathematical model, consisting of four coupled partial differential equations which predict the movement of glioma cells due to the reaction‑kinetic mechanism between regular receptors CD95, its ligand CD95L and decoy receptors DcR3 as obtained in experimental results. The aim is to measure the number of cells in the chamber’s filter for different concentrations of ligand in presence of decoy receptors and compute the distance travelled by the cells inside filter due to cell migration. Using experimental results, we validate our model which suggests that the concentration of ligands plays an important role in cell migration
