DDX171 PROJECT 2 COMIC STRIP EXAMPL

Perceptions and conceptions of Francesca Caccini (1587–c. 1645) and Barbara Strozzi (1619–1677): sensing the past through contemporary composition practice.

    No full text
This masters project consists of a composition portfolio and exegesis, connecting an earlier historical period to the present day through contemporary compositional processes and an examination of the musical experience. Feminist reparative approaches to history have revealed women composers who had been disappeared or minimised through music history. Taking as its starting point the cultural and musical contexts of two Baroque composers, Francesca Caccini (1587- c.1645) and Barbara Strozzi (1619-1677), this project approaches their surviving traces creatively whilst investigating temporality and subjective modes of knowledge production. The project draws together sense-oriented frameworks from artistic practice-led research, the Baroque era and sound studies, with a focus on listening (and all its metaphoric, sensual and technical applications). In doing so, it models how a contemporary self-producing sensate composer can interact with the past to create new work

Burdened 2 Infinity: Until The End [Album]

    No full text
“Until the End” is an 8-track LP with the lyrical theme of Nostalgia. The overall aim of this project’s presentation to the public is to involve the audience with our creative process in unique and interesting ways in order to set us apart from the majority of the music industry with how we present ourselves as well as our work. The album’s genre is Pop-Rock, and this decision has been made to give us a wide variety of influences and reference tracks to draw from, while making sure that the album remains sonically consistent across the course of the 8 songs. As a means of diving more into the behind-the-scenes aspects of the songwriting process, we will be premiering a Podcast Entitled “ “ at the end of this Trimester which will provide iterative demos of songwriting ideas as well as first-hand information about our experience and progress from all four of the band members. In addition to our social media/public marketing campaign, we will also be working in conjunction with our mentor, Matt Bray, to make these iterative versions of songs accessible for students following the same Bachelor of Music Production path (Extract from Prospectus)

In the driver’s seat: A practice-based Inquiry into the compositional role of electric guitar distortion in heavy metal music

    No full text
This exegesis presents the findings of a practice-based research inquiry into the compositional role of electric guitar distortion in heavy metal music. Practice-based research places the practitioner-observer in a position to engage with knowledge and scope the ontological framework within my methods of practice. In response to the research question, I have produced ten original heavy metal compositions which provide evidence of a connection between distortion method and composition influence such as genre classification and instrument playability. The narrow scope of investigation facilitates observation of this composition-distortion relationship which is supported by audio visualisation tools and contributes to research in heavy metal music. This project uncovers experiential data in the creative practice and intentionally engages with reflection methods to facilitate knowledge pursuit. This exegesis finds similarities between distortion methods and discusses how the perception of distortion encourages creative experimentation whilst articulating the discovery of unique physical and digital distortion production method artefacts
