Misfit Studios
My capstone project explores the dynamic world of freelance graphic design, a career path that\u27s becoming more popular as designers craft their own success stories. Recognising the growing amount of freelance designers, I started this project to gain a head start on life after university, build my portfolio, and prepare for a professional setting.
I took on three clients from SAE, all with unique projects that required a graphic designer. Each project offered a chance to push creative boundaries while navigating the real-world dynamics of client collaboration

The way of madness
This study explores the cognitive process of creating a design for a single Tarot card, concentrating on the relationship between the visual (non-verbal, spatial) and verbal (linear) elements involved in the process. The research uncovered that linear and non-linear (visual) cognitive strategies are employed in synergy during the conception and creation of the artwork. The most notable result of the research is that immediate, pre-reflective and non-verbal experiencing has undeniable primacy over verbal, conceptual thinking. Verbalising thoughts is interchangeable with analytical, critical, symbolic, and linear cognitive strategy (“rational”). However, the context, interrelationships, and, ultimately, meaning are provided by integrating the findings of critical analysis into an integrated whole. A surprising finding is the centrality of beauty in my quest for truth and meaning. I find that articulated thinking and reasoning lead to knowledge, but the knowledge of truth and beauty is, in my experience, ultimately transcendental
Digital Synthesis and Music Making : A Comprovisational approach to music making through digital synthesis and sound manipulation
This exegesis documents my practice and process through the development and production of three albums of electronic music. Employing a methodology where the exploration of sound design drives the music making process. I used experimental music making approaches and “practice-led research” methodologies to make these creative works (Smith & Dean, 2009, p. 5). Through the exploration of the sound design process, I developed a methodology that enables the creation of musical material to serve as the foundation for the pieces I produced. Exploring iterative processes in music making, I employed a “Comprovisational” approach (Dale, 2008, p.5). Listening while recording, I explored changes in timbre, harmony, melody and rhythm made through improvisations with digital synthesis, MIDI hardware, sampling, and sound design. From these recordings, I would further extrapolate and manipulate the material, developing it into musical structures.
My Creative Works, Red, Teal, and Orange, serve as documentation of an evolving compositional approach centred around employing an experimental sound design process, to generate material that focuses on timbral manipulation through a comprovisational scope. The enclosed works offer insight into my experience as a composer making music through digital synthesis, experimentation, iterative processes, linear and non-linear approaches and improvisation and composition
Illuminating Women’s Interwar Australian Ghosts Stories in a Tabletop Roleplaying Game - Methods, Processes and Aesthetics
This project will seek to develop a Tabletop Roleplaying Game in which Sydney Women’s Interwar Ghost Stories can be portrayed in an engaging and appropriate fashion. It will seek to provide a platform for players to empathise with, and embody, women in the period and understand some of the struggles that they may experience. It will endeavour to use historical research as a background frame, and then use relevant game creation engines to help provide structure to the final product
Evaluation of learning theory experiences
To develop an incisive eye for learning design and development requires understanding learning experiences from the learner’s perspective. It is therefore useful to take the place of the learner and conduct honest and scholarly critiques of one’s own learning experiences. In this essay, I reflect on two different learning experiences, including their successful facilitation of learning and as aspects that could be improved in order to optimise the participant’s learning. These experiences are examined through the lens of their dominant learning theories: Instructivism and Constructivism
