\u27The Rest is Silence\u27: Reframing Stasis as Integral to Creative Practice
This duoethnographic study examines the relationship between motion and stasis in creative practice through the lens of two creative educators working in postgraduate and undergraduate Creative Industries. Drawing on our combined experiences as practitioners and educators at SAE University College, we explore how creative blockages can be reframed as productive rather than problematic, challenging dominant productivity paradigms in contemporary creative industries and education. Through structured dialogic exchange, we investigate three interconnected themes: the rhythmic nature of creative practice, the pedagogical value of embracing productive stasis, and the tension between institutional timelines and creative development. We consider how encouraging SAE creative tertiary students to accept periods of stasis may benefit them as they enter the creative workforce, where such rhythms are often intrinsic to professional practice. By recognising the generative potential of apparent non-productivity, we suggest students can be better prepared for the realities of creative careers. This research contributes to ongoing scholarly conversations about creative pedagogy by offering a more textured understanding of creative processes—one that questions the pressure for constant innovation and instead advocates for deeper, more sustainable forms of engagement. We invite further discussion on how this perspective might be more explicitly embedded in creative education, particularly through assessment frameworks that legitimise both production and reflection

The Dragons Campaign [Game]
In ‘Untitled Dragon Game’ players will take on the role of a young dragon with the goal of growing stronger and amassing immense hordes of wealth. Players will progress through thematic worlds/kingdoms each made up of a hub area and a series of levels after completing each players will progress towards their end goal of destroying the kingdom and gaining their treasure which in turn makes you stronger. The games Genre will be that of a 3D action platformer, the game will depict a sort of medium to low level of violence, masked and down played due to the games stylized nature. The game will be aimed towards a teen to young adult audience, aiming to evoke emotions of nostalgia from similar games from the 5-6 console generation. Players are thrown into the world, kingdom or “Hub area”, this is a large sort of open area that players can explore, fight enemies and get collectables. In the hub players will always be able to see their end goal, that of the main castle, however in order to get in their and destroy it players will first have to progress through the games individual levels The games levels can be tackled in any order but must all be beaten before they can complete the final one, levels are isolated from the hub allowing them to be different however they are still themed after the hub they are attached to. Each level ends with progress being made towards the final level this could be things like sabotaging catapults or destroying soldier barracks etc. Aesthetically the game will take on a sort of stylized medieval fantasy look meaning lots of castles and magic stuff and i don\u27t know maybe a dwarf and an elf or two The games artstyle will as a whole will take on a stylized look, environments will be semi realistically proportioned however simplified to give them a more stylized look. Characters will take on a similar approach but allowing for more exaggeration in their designs mostly focusing on hands, feet or heads. Textures will take on a PBR style to allow for more dynamic reflections but will still maintain an aspect of stylization in them with sprinkles of hand painted ness but never going full in either directio

King\u27s Crown
This project will use the power of animation to explore themes of self-discovery, belonging, and emotional depth. By portraying the bond between two unlikely characters—a youthful and an old soul—this story will reflect how empathy, shared struggles, and understanding can bridge generational divides, fostering self-acceptance and connection. Creative and Social Significance
The narrative will center on a protagonist who struggles with their identity and belonging. Through their journey, they encounter a character who, despite their differences, forms a tight-knit companionship. Aligning with the found family trope, which emphasizes that love and support can transcend biological ties, showcasing how connections can be forged through shared experiences and mutual understanding (Smith, 2022). By highlighting these themes, the film seeks to resonate with audiences who may feel marginalized or disconnected, ones that feel lost and alone and may inspire them that there is still grounds for hope

The Methodological Approach Of My Emergent Auto-ethnographical Journey In Arts-based Practice As Research (ABR): Music & Sound-making, Meaning-making, Self-making
This article discusses the methodological approach of my professional Doctor of Creative Industries (DCI) Research Project 1 study. The aim of higher degree research (HDR) Project 1 was to investigate my DIY music & sound-making practice and self as a practitioner, in the process of creating and producing a DIY music artefact. Specifically: to investigate why I as the practitioner felt an authentic connection with one form of music & sound-making (acoustic instrument-based), and not a connection with another form of music & sound-making (digital virtual-based)
Views from the bridges
Views from the Bridges is a multi-part series of vignettes set at intervals across the next 30 years, following the education paths of 5 characters at different stages of life. It\u27s speculative fiction but it draws on trends that are happening now, including the erosion of the perceived value of degrees in job ads, the rapid uptake of tools that can do student assessments, the scramble to secure unit and course outcomes, the call for regulation, a growing recognition of human values that have been considered co-curricular .
I\u27m drawing on ideas such as
- Post-digital pedagogy: To examine how human and machine capabilities integrate
- Communities of practice theory: How validation and credentialing of expertise might shifts from institutional to community-based models
- Neurodiversity paradigms: Challenging neurotypical assumptions in learning design
- Inclusive Knowledge: Recognising Indigenous and Eastern pedagogical models as possible templates for post-collapse learning
There are 9 chapters to this series, starting with some Questions that Matter, then six human stories, then a chapter with some potential practical ideas, and finally the story of the stories. Spoiler alert - I worked extensively, iteratively and collaboratively with Claude AI on these chapters. We kept extensive notes about process, discoveries, personal experiences, timelines and through-lines, improvisations, structural shifts, character development etc. The result is very difficult for even me to separate what was mine and what was Claude. I don\u27t consider myself a writer. I am a composer and musician used to working in multidisciplinary collaborations or in studios where individuals bring themselves to the process. This felt a lot like that
I Want To Make You Cry: An emotional and philosophical inquiry in \u27Parrallel Lines\u27 through montage, affect and empathy.
This project consists of two components, a creative artefact, and written exegesis. The creative artefact is a short film script called \u27Parallel Lines\u27 which explores a conversation between a mother and her daughter after the death of the mother.
In my creative practice, cinema is the most impactful medium of generating meaning. I would go as far to state that cinema is a necessary medium in order to explore human emotions. Representation is known to impact audiences and it is for this reason that I have chosen cinema to be the mechanism to examine in depth within the work.
Using the theories of affect, montage and studies of empathy, I examine my emotional response, and use these theories to apply the same logic and understanding to my own script. The goal with this project is to employ textual analysis to bricolage my creative resources that will eventuate into an emotive short film script
