No full textThe MDA Dental PAC (Political Action Committee) supports the Michigan Dental Association’s (MDA) lobbying efforts on state legislation. It is funded entirely by voluntary contributions from MDA member dentists, mainly collected through a notice included in the annual dues statement. The PAC pools these funds to support political officials who advocate for issues important to organized dentistry, regardless of political party. Key advocacy priorities for 2025 include establishing Dental Loss Ratio laws, legislating Assignment of Benefits, regulating Virtual Credit Card Payments, addressing fees for Non-Covered Services, and increasing Medicaid Anesthesia Reimbursement. The PAC is managed by a Board of Governors and functions as the driving force behind MDA advocacy
It’s Not Elementary, My Dear AI
No full textIn this issue, Associate Editor Mali Schantz-Feld cautions dental communicators about the irresponsible use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), highlighting three major risks. The first is the fabrication or hallucination of non-existent scholarly references, exemplified by submitted articles where more than half of the citations were fake. The second risk is the removal of human personality, emotion, and nuance, which causes content to feel robotic; this occurred when a profile of an inspiring dentist was run through AI, stripping away their inner light and philosophy. The third danger is the generation of statistics, charts, or figures without providing necessary data or sources. While AI can aid in brainstorming and creating abstracts, the success of AI requires human guidance and collaboration to ensure validity, reliability, and transparency. Editors must use concise requests and vigilant fact-checking
