Angular analysis of the decay B\u3csup\u3e+\u3c/sup\u3e → K\u3csup\u3e∗\u3c/sup\u3e(892)\u3csup\u3e+\u3c/sup\u3e μ \u3csup\u3e+\u3c/sup\u3e μ \u3csup\u3e −\u3c/sup\u3e in proton-proton collisions at √s = 8 TeV
Angular distributions of the decay B+→ K∗(892)+μ+μ− are studied using events collected with the CMS detector in s = 8 TeV proton-proton collisions at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 20.0 fb−1. The forward-backward asymmetry of the muons and the longitudinal polarization of the K∗(892)+ meson are determined as a function of the square of the dimuon invariant mass. These are the first results from this exclusive decay mode and are in agreement with a standard model prediction. [Figure not available: see fulltext.
Effects of Innovative School Leadership Practices With the Goal of Promoting Collective Teacher Efficacy Through Creating a Collaborative Working Environment: A Literature Review
The purpose of this literature review on collective teacher efficacy and collaborative working environment strategies completed in schools settings from Pre-K-university level, was to help guide teachers and school leaders to examine their faculty’s level of self-efficacy, and to propose actionable steps on how to promote levels of self-efficacy. This literature review addresses teacher self-efficacy at three different levels: school leadership, longevity and job satisfaction, and student achievement. Secondly, it addresses two distinct teacher collaboration methods to consider in their professional development and/or content delivery structure: team teaching and micro-teaching. These two methods are examined and discussed in ways they may have major impacts on teacher self-efficacy and student achievement
The Resilient Midwife
Midwives have been shown to significantly improve birth outcomes; the World Health Organization proposes that 83% of maternal deaths, newborn deaths, and stillbirths could be prevented through midwifery care. However, burnout level in this profession is high; a 2017 survey of U.S. certified nurse-midwives and certified midwives revealed that 40.6% of these professionals were suffering from burnout. The purpose of this paper is to identify strategies to facilitate resilience and decrease burnout in the midwifery professionMethods: 1427 articles were screened to yield twenty research studies relevant to improving resiliency and decreasing burnout the midwifery profession. The twenty articles were summarized in a matrix. The Job Demands-Resources model was applied to the findings of the literature review.Results/Findings: Job demands included life threatening events, lack of resources, scheduling and call demands, and low managerial support. Job resources that can be utilized to enhance resilience and decrease burnout include social support, training and education, and self-reflection/self-awareness. Autonomy was a minor theme identified as a job resource. Implications for Research and Practice: Individual midwives and their employers should incorporate multilevel approaches to increasing resilience and preventing burnout
Reading Instructional Methods: The Effectiveness of Phonetic-Based, Whole Language, and Balanced Approaches to Teaching Beginning Readers
This thesis examines the benefits and identifies the differences between reading instructional methods. Current research reveals the relationship between whole language, phonics, and balanced literacy, which can be helpful to educators in identifying a primary strategy for reading instruction. Some students respond best to phonics-based strategies while others show greater growth in response to whole language instruction. Various factors can affect reading development, including educator knowledge, parental support, brain research, gender, socioeconomic status, and ethnicity. Several methods are explained to help teachers identify the most effective strategies in teaching young learners how to read and aiding those who struggle
Work-Based Learning Impact on Community, School, and Student
This literature review with application examined work-based learning programs at the high school level, and those programs impact preparing students for the workforce. Providing experiences for students to interact with career fields they are interested in will give them an in-depth understanding of what their day-to-day will consist of. Students will choose if that career is one they want to pursue, if they want to continue their education, if they will be taking on student loan debt, deciding between public and private universities, and what training they will complete. Being more knowledgeable about their future career paths will improve the skills gap and student loan debt in our country. There are nearly 7 million unfilled jobs in the United States, and many business leaders say the lack of available workers is one of their most significant challenges (Glassman, 2020). There is a substantial need for qualified trade school graduates. They can make a great living while working in a job that helps our economy and community thrive (Caprino, 2018). A solid work-based learning program will help prepare students for whatever career path they choose, benefit the school district and the local business community
Understanding the Needs of Children in Poverty to Improve Academic Achievement: A Literature Review
Poverty affects one in five children in the U.S., where 50% of public schools identify as mid-high or high-poverty schools. Decades of research confirms a significant and constant economic academic achievement gap. This literature review sought to determine how poverty impacts children’s development and ways educators can improve educational outcomes for students in poverty. Researchers illustrate how poverty impacts children environmentally and neurologically, leading to brain changes associated with language, memory, socioemotional, and executive functioning skills. Researchers offer a multitude of ways that educators can improve educational outcomes for students in poverty including: improving school climate and teacher-student relationships, implementing social skills and executive functioning curricula, increasing parental involvement, teacher instructional quality, and district instructional expenditures
Search for chargino-neutralino production in events with Higgs and W bosons using 137 fb\u3csup\u3e −1\u3c/sup\u3e of proton-proton collisions at √s = 13 TeV
A search for electroweak production of supersymmetric (SUSY) particles in final states with one lepton, a Higgs boson decaying to a pair of bottom quarks, and large missing transverse momentum is presented. The search uses data from proton-proton collisions at a center-of-mass energy of 13 TeV collected using the CMS detector at the LHC, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 137 fb−1. The observed yields are consistent with backgrounds expected from the standard model. The results are interpreted in the context of a simplified SUSY model of chargino-neutralino production, with the chargino decaying to a W boson and the lightest SUSY particle (LSP) and the neutralino decaying to a Higgs boson and the LSP. Charginos and neutralinos with masses up to 820 GeV are excluded at 95% confidence level when the LSP mass is small, and LSPs with mass up to 350 GeV are excluded when the masses of the chargino and neutralino are approximately 700 GeV. Crossing the Digital Divide and the Equity Expanse: Reaching and Teaching All Students During the Pandemic
The COVID-19 pandemic illuminated the digital divide revealing an expanse of inequity among students who had access to the internet, personal devices, and parental support during remote learning and those who did not. Framed with the theoretical lenses of structural ideology and culturally responsive school leadership, this paper details the results of a survey completed by 56 Minnesota district level technology directors. The survey asked how school districts were responding to the technology needs of students and families while in hybrid and distance learning models. Often those without access to digital tools and information were those who were also experiencing poverty. Recommendations for further research are provided including advocacy for the expansion of broadband access, the pandemic’s impact on the mental health of students, and efforts to sustain access to technology for all learners after the COVID-19 pandemic concludes
Deaf Pastor Cohort: Self-Care for Deaf Pastors
The Researcher observed posts on social media from deaf pastors sharing their experiences of personal and professional struggles with suicide, depression, and mental health challenges with their close circle of pastors, colleagues, and congregation. These are tremendous burdens for both Deaf and hearing pastors. The scriptures cited for this research were 1 Kings 19, Psalm 23, and Mark 7:31-37; these Scriptures provide the theological basis that God provides self-care. The recipients became healthier emotionally, mentally, physically, socially, and spiritually. The recipients were able to recover and minister to their respective congregations and communities. The Researcher conducted a qualitative case study on a small cohort of Deaf pastors. The Researcher created the research instruments, a Pre-Survey, and a Post-Survey, consisting of 30 multiple choice questions presented in English and ASL. Both surveys are fully accessible, linguistically and culturally. An 8-week curriculum moderated the Cohort activities. The Researcher conducted Individual interviews and facilitated two group discussions via Zoom. The Pre-Survey was administered before the Cohort, and the Post-Survey was administered after the Cohort. The first finding is that accessible education on self-care provided the pastors with positive reinforcement and improved overall well-being. The second finding is that consistent self-care and social contact, either in-person and through accessible technology, provides pastors with healthy, supportive, emotional, and social care for their overall well-being
Use of Feedback Mechanisms Versus Exercise Alone for Treatment of Patients With Scapular Dyskinesis
Background: Scapular dyskinesis is more prevalent in overhead athletes and can also lead to eventual shoulder injuries or shoulder dysfunction. Therefore, a rehabilitation program to manage or treat scapular dyskinesis is important. The effectiveness of feedback modalities used in combination with exercise may be more beneficial in treating and or managing scapular dyskinesis versus just exercise alone. Purpose: In overhead athletes with scapular dyskinesis, does the use of an exercise program with biofeedback (taping, visual, verbal, surface EMG, video, tactile cueing, and conscious control) reduce the risk of shoulder injury versus exercise alone? Results: Seventeen peer-reviewed articles were examined utilizing the John Hopkins Appraisal Tool and a matrix format. All 17 articles found positive changes in the range of motion, scapular function, and scapular muscle strength or activation when using a feedback mechanism in conjunction with an exercise program. Conclusion: The implementation of feedback mechanisms combined with exercise is a more effective treatment compared to just exercise alone. Feedback tools give way to improved visualization of scapular movement and targeted muscle activity. The type of feedback used depends on the patient’s specific scapular dyskinesis deficiencies and individual needs. Implications for Research and Practice: These findings suggest that feedback is a beneficial addition to a rehabilitation program for overhead athletes with scapular dyskinesis. Such a program will aid in preventing further shoulder injuries and maintaining proper shoulder function along with strength. These results were also supported in populations with shoulder impingement syndrome and forward shoulder posture
