In the times when nonprofessional express their feelings and distort the facts, Science is experiencingone of the hardest struggles for its trust. The journal is not medical, so there is no point in arguing about thepandemic, the vaccinations, and related matters. It is to be hoped that Science, as always, wins the struggleon the basis on the facts and gain deserved trust. Although it does not seem to be, Sports science is one of thekey study fields that can help to bring life back to the normal. As people begin to value their health evenmore, sport as well as any physical activity, can become one of the key factors in the existence of humanity.We are pleased that Slovak Journal of Sport Science has a stable place among scientists and sport academicsso we can continue to bring new findings from the field of research in sports sciences
The significance of intra-abdominal pressure on postural stabilization: low back pain case report
Intra-abdominal pressure is a hydraulic pressure within the abdominal cavity. Previous studies confirmed itsdirect association with both spinal stability and spinal unloading. The literature review part of the papersummarizes intra-abdominal pressure physiology and pathophysiology and explains the underlyingmechanisms of intra-abdominal pressure regulation and its effects on the human body, especially spinalstability. Current methods of invasive and non-invasive intra-abdominal pressure measurement are describedin detail. Second part of a paper presents a case report of a competitive athlete suffering from low back pain.The functional assessment and treatment focused on quality of patient’s trunk stabilization. Trainingfollowing principles of Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization resulted in better ability to activate abdominalwall muscles which is a critical mechanism of intra-abdominal pressure regulation and in this case causedsignificant low back pain reduction. The effect of the therapy was evaluated by DNS Brace which measuresactivity of the abdominal wall, thus intra-abdominal pressure indirectly, along with clinical DynamicNeuromuscular Stabilization assessment tests.

The comparison of selected methods for muscle flexibility development
The aim of this pilot experiment was tocompare the effect of resistance training(rt) versus static stretching (ss) onhamstring flexibility. Study was conductedon 18 volunteers (n=18), cadet hockeyplayers with average age 14y. Hamstringflexibility was measured by thomayers testand both active and passive range ofmotion (rom) of hip joint. After prestestingmentioned parameters, volunteers wererandomized to rt group (n= 10) and ssgorup (n= 8). Both groups were given 2hamstring exercises, perfmored in full rom.After 6 weeks of following exerciseprotocol, both groups were tested. Thenfour- week training pause wasimplemented, with pretesting playersafterwards. Volunteers were swapped toanother group, exercising for next 6 weeks.Last measurements were done at the end.All players improved significantly in bothactive and passive hip flexion, ignoring themethods. Both methods noticedimprovements in every measurment,however, not all of them were statisticallysignificant. Results of ss group weresuperior to st group. The ss group noticedsignificant changes in every observedparameter, except for active flexion of theleft hip. The st group observed significantchanges in passive flexion of the right hip,both active and passive flexion of the lefthip. Results show, that resistance trainingmight be beneficial for improvinghamstring flexibility of young hockeyplayers. Major limitation of this study werethe sample size and duration ofexperiment. More research needs to bedone to confirm or disprove our results
Circadian preferences of the czech special olympic athletes participated in the project "healthy community"
Health state of Special Olympics athletes is a key component ofSpecial Olympics 2016-2020 Strategic Plan. The project “HealthyCommunity” ensure globally the rights of athletes with mentaldisabilities, as well as their duty to care for health within their limitsbased on arguments from field surveys of fitness indicators, healthindicators, realized lifestyle and sports results. To create anatmosphere of a healthy community with the mutual support ofpersons with mental disability, their parents and the responsiblecommunity underline the idea of a healthy lifestyle in a healthysociety. The objective of the presented study is to analysebiorhythms from the view of circadian habits in the context of sleeppreferences in the Special Olympic athletes living in the CzechRepublic in the South Bohemia Region. The research sampleconsisted of 60 persons (28 males; 32 females), 15 - 18 years old,with an average 17.1 (male age average 16.8; female age average17.5) participated in the year 2017 in the international projectGolisano and Special Olympics ID Y1 16-600-14 “ZAS - HealthyCommunity”. Methods used in the study consisted: from theModification Questionnaire of Circadian Typology “CIT” (Harada,Krejčí - Czech version, 2015) provided in cooperation with theLaboratory of Environmental Physiology Kochi University, Japan;from Statistical analyses on the base of One-way non-parametricANOVA (Kruskal-Wallis test) in SPSS program, with using FisherExact Test and Mann–Whitney U test. Significant differencesbetween the investigated samples of females and males SO athleteswere found. Data analyses demonstrate that it was found significantcorrelation between difficulty falling asleep and sweet drinksconsumption in monitored athletes with mental disability. Based ondata analyse it is possible to declare that biorhythms in a form ofcircadian preferences of athletes with mental disabilities influenceaccess to sport activity with realizing of maximum individual potentialamong athletes in order to achieve their best possible performancenot only in sports, but also in day-to-day activities. Coaches andother experts, working with athletes with mental disability, should bealerted to the fact that the motor learning not only mediates changesin motor skills, but also influences changes in the psycho-socialbehaviour
Reconstruction of walking motion without flight phase by using computer simulation of the world elite 20km race walkers during official races
BACKGROUNDS: Article 230 of competition rules of athletics specifythat race walking should be judged by human eye of the race walkingjudges, but during races even highly skilled race walking judges maysometimes not recognise a brief flight time as “Loss of Contact” time.Electric or visual devices for race walking judge will be innovated andapplied to the race walking event. Then, the training methods toavoid flight phase should be established. AIMS: The purpose of thisstudy is to obtain basic findings of the walking motion without flightphase. From three- dimensional coordinate data of athlete in thereal official competition, virtual three-dimensional coordinate will becalculated and the joint kinetics will be obtained by using inverseddynamics. METHODS: Two kinds of computer simulation wereconducted on the three-dimensional whole body coordinates data ofsixteen world elite male walkers collected in the elite official race(Olympic games held in 2004 and World championships in Athleticsheld in 2005) for Men’s 20kmW. In most of elite race walkers, theirrecovery phase time was larger than the support phase time. Onesimulation directed to diminish the flight phase by setting therecovery phase same as the support phase of contralateral leg.Another simulation directed to diminish the flight phase by setting thestart of the support phase as the start of the recovery phase ofcontralateral leg. RESULTS and CONCLUSION: In the simulation,which directed to reduce the recovery phase time, the walking speedwas reduced because of the short step length. However, the largerjoint torque at hip and knee exerted rather than the real data. In thesimulation, which directed to expand the support phase time, thewalking speed was same as the real data. Although the large jointtorque at hip and knee exerted rather than the real data, the hipabductors’ torque which was large in the walkers without flight phasein the official race and experiment was reduced in the simulateddata. From these results, it is important large flexors’ and extensors’torque at knee and hip were important to walk without flight phase.However, the simulation in the frontal plane should be conducted inthe future
The level of development of bone and muscle tissues of students applying lorentz constitutional and muscle index
Nowadays it is generally lived in conditions of rapid pace, poorquality and unhealthy nutrition, reduced or insufficient movement, ina word hipokinetic lifestyle. Consequences of hypokinesia are many,and refer mainly to diseases of the cardiovascular system, therespiratory system, and the occurrence of diabetes. In addition, it canalso be stated and the uneven growth and development of theindividual leading to the negative trend of the development of someanthropometric characteristics and also to the physical status of theindividual. This research is dealing with the level of development ofbone and muscle tissues of students of Physical Education andSports of East Sarajevo. For the estimation of the level ofdevelopment of bone and muscle tissue was applied Lorentzconstitutional index (LKI) and muscle index (MI%). The resultsshowed that it is about a tendency of the stronger development ofbone and muscle tissues of students, where the mean value of LKIis (Mean= 2,2), and muscle index MI (Mean=10%), that is they are inthe upper limit of the middle development musculature
Analysis and comparison of the game performance of guards of the women basketball team SC UMB Banská Bystrica in the seasons 2014/2015 and 2015/2016
The paper presents the results of the analysis and comparison ofgame performance of two women-guards of the women basketballteam SC UMB Banská Bystrica in the seasons 2014/2015and 2015/2016. The main method we used to evaluate the gameperformance of the two women-players within both seasons, wasobservation, more specifically, it was the method of a directstructured long-term group observation. The observed indicatorswere recorded in the game statistics records after each match, whichenabled us to obtain data related to total game productivity (TP) ofthe players. Game productivity is one of the main indicators of thegame performance and in the records, it is calculated by means of aformula used in quantitative Manley’s method. For qualitativeevaluation of the data obtained from the game statistics records inboth seasons, we have analyzed the game performance of eachguard, and further compared the data. The shooting indicators haveproved that it is not only the points made that matter, but the activityof a player in a number of points attempted is also extremelyimportant. Similarly, the situation related to indicators of positive andnegative critical cases appears to be relevant. We have found outthat for the post of a guard, stable performance in individualindicators of the game statistics is essential, and there should not besignificant differences in game performance within one season

Najúspešnejšia slovenská spisovateľka 60. rokov 20. storočia Jaroslava Blažková by v novembri 2023 oslávila deväťdesiat rokov. Úspešnú spisovateľskú kariéru na Slovensku ukončila dobrovoľným odchodom do exilu v roku 1968. Nasledovalo vymazanie jej mena a diela zo slovenskej literatúry a knižníc. Časť spisovateľkinho diela sa ešte za jej života rehabilitovalo na Slovensku po roku 1989 reedíciami jej najznámejších diel, najmä poviedkových zbierok a tvorby pre deti
