Consumer-brand relationship and use of the website in virtual communication in the luxury furniture industry

    No full text
Luxury management can be considered the management of paradoxes between intangibility and functionality, rationality and emotion, modern technology with traditional craftsmanship, showing that luxury comes from creation, timelessness, emotion, excellence, heritage, and authenticity. This chapter results from two methods, a qualitative analysis, which presents an analysis grid with the most varied characteristics; these are divided into six groups: identification, content, product page, utility, entertainment and complementary relationship, speed and other presences visible on three websites of luxury furniture brands. The other method is the quantitative one, which was a questionnaire with the understanding the perceived quality of the website using the WebQual scale, as well as understanding the purchase intention and the importance of the internet in the purchase decision process.691D-6753-BE59 | Manuel José Serra da Fonsecainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Fotografia: um recurso para elaborar tarefas matemáticas fora da sala de aula

    Get PDF
ABSTRACT Literature refers that outdoor photography motivates students for the understanding of math contents. However, we do not have enough knowledge about how preservice teachers pose problems in real life contexts. This paper describes a study where preservice teachers capture photos in the environment that allow mathematical task design. Results suggest that the participants chose photos privileging elements related with buildings, mobilizing contents of Geometry and Measurement. The experience had a positive impact on them, providing a “math eye” at everyday objects, searching for the underlying mathematics more consciously, however they expressed that the design of high-level cognitive tasks is hard. O abandono académico no ensino superior: contributos do Projecto Ancoragem para o desenvolvimento dos estudantes

    No full text

Curricular articulation in higher education: an experience in initial teacher education

    Get PDF
Curricular Articulation (CA) is undoubtedly a fundamental practice in the teaching-learning process. On the one hand, the construction of effective and solid knowledge implies holistic approaches at the level of disciplinary contents; on the other hand, it also implies a transversal intervention regarding the skills and abilities to be developed by students. Therefore, we advocate for a dynamic curricular conception in an integrative perspective to enable the promotion of significant learning. Based on these assumptions, this text is the result of an experiment conducted with 3rd year Basic Education students in a Polytechnic Institute in the North of Portugal in the academic year of 2019/2020. In this period, CA was carried out in two Curricular Units: one in the field of Portuguese Didactics, and the other one under internship conditions in Initiation to Professional Practice 3. By analyzing the study cycle, it is clear that there are contact points in terms of skills and content in this training process, which explains this experiment. Furthermore, the interconnection of knowledge, which will influence the students’ pedagogical practices in the future by providing them with experiences, is also considered fundamental. In methodological terms, this is an exploratory study, since it is the first experiment in this Curricular Unit involving both students and teachers. The results allow one to conclude that CA is seen in a very positive light by students, and it is undeniably an experience to be repeated by teachers. Students highlight the possibility of carrying out tasks, evaluative and reflective moments mutual to both Curricular Units, which allow them to articulate learning. In this sense, they consider the mobilization of knowledge, capacities, and skills relevant to both areas of utmost importance. They also highlight the use of certain resources which, built within the scope of one Curricular Unit, are (re)adapted in the light of the other, therefore enabling constant reorganization processes of high significance for future education professionals. In the same way, they also mention the development of significant learning which contributes to the construction of knowledge they consider fundamental. Furthermore, they consider this articulation to be necessary, as it allows them to experience model situations that can be mobilized for their future practice. The teachers mention the collaborative work involved as a strong point, namely in the planning of lessons and in the structuring of resources, highlighting the possibility of (re)building knowledge together.B217-9560-A2C5 | Ana Raquel Costa AguiarN/

The importance of neighborhood ecological assets in community dwelling older people aging outcomes: A study in northern Portugal

    No full text
Human development is a bidirectional, person-context relational process, but scarce evidence is available about the relation between the individual variability across the life-span and the neighborhood ecological assets. Therefore, it is important that research focus not only on personal characteristics but on ecological assets as well. This way this study aims to analyze the association between neighborhood ecological assets categorized into four dimensions: human, physical or institutional, social or collective activity, accessibility, and the individual functioning. A 3% sample of residents aged 65 years and older in two downtown and three uptown parishes stratified by age and sex was interviewed at home using a protocol that included the Portuguese version of the Barthel Index in basic activities of daily living (BADL), the Lawton Instrumental Activities of Daily Living Scale (IADL), the Mini Mental State Examination (MMSE), and the Geriatric Depression Scale-15 items (GDS) for evaluating functionality, cognitive performance, and depression. The 162 participants were aged on average 75 years (sd = 7.0), 54% were women and 90% had less than 7 years of education. The majority of participants were independent in BADL (M = 90; sd = 17.7) and moderately dependent in IADL (M = 13, sd = 6.0), 20% showed cognitive impairment and a mean score of 8 (sd = 2.1) in GDS-15. After controlling for the effect of socio-demographic characteristics, functionality, and cognitive performance decreases in persons with worst outdoor mobility. On the other hand depressive symptoms are less common as the number of recreation opportunities, namely associative groups (cultural, educative, professional), increases. These results suggest that aging policies and practices must be ecologically embedded.E51F-89A1-B769 | Carla Fariainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The consumer trail: Applying best-worst scaling to classical wine attributes

    Get PDF
The main goal of this study is to gain a better understanding of the buying behavior of wine consumers in Portugal. More specifically, the study identifies extrinsic attributes that influence wine purchase choices in a retail store, crossing-tabulating the results with six classification variables. The authors use the best-worst scaling method with eighteen reference attributes for designing, implementing, and analyzing responses to a survey of 250 wine buyers. Results reveal that the most significant reference attribute is whether consumers had tasted the wine previously. These findings for Portugal are in accordance with what has been observed in other Western countries. The second most important attribute, region of origin, is also commonly identified in the literature as a significant attribute. The classification variables of age and gender help to explain the behavior of the majority attributes. Using a latent class analysis, the authors obtained a set of three segments that are representative of Portuguese wine consumers. The findings presented here have important implications for wineries and wine distributors in their efforts to know their consumers better in an off-premise context and thereby to maximize profit.0119-47CC-D459 | Teresa Cristina Fernandes Ferreira MadureiraN/

In sickness and in health: the oxygen reactive species and the bone

    Get PDF
Oxidative stress plays a central role in physiological and pathological bone conditions. Its role in signalment and control of bone cell population differentiation, activity, and fate is increasingly recognized. The possibilities of its use and manipulation with therapeutic goals are virtually unending. However, how redox balance interplays with the response to mechanical stimuli is yet to be fully understood. The present work summarizes current knowledge on these aspects, in an integrative and broad introductory perspective.5F1C-9D14-387E | Joana Margarida Ferreira da Costa Reisinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    Get PDF
A subsample consisting of fifty fecal samples from wild Iberian Wolf (Canis lupus signatus), from the northwest of Spain were collected in the field. The samples were analyzed for cysts of Giardia sp. and oocysts of Cryptosporidium sp. using a direct immunofluorescence antibody test (IFA). Giardia sp. and Cryptosporidium sp. were found in 20.0 % of the samples examined. Simple infections were more frequent (90.0 %) with seven (14.0 %) positive for Giardia sp. and two (4.0 %) positive for Cryptosporidium sp. To the authors’ knowledge, this is the first report of occurrence of Cryptosporidium sp. in Iberian Wolf.A91F-E8B8-FA62 | Teresa Susana Letra MateusN/

High sensitivity cryogenic temperature sensors based on arc-induced long-period fiber gratings

    Get PDF
In this paper, we investigated the evolution of the dispersion curves of long-period fiber gratings (LPFGs) from room temperature down to 0 K. We considered gratings arc-induced in the SMF28 fiber and in two B/Ge co-doped fibers. Computer simulations were performed based on previously published experimental data. We found that the dispersion curves belonging to the lowest-order cladding modes are the most affected by the temperature changes, but those changes are minute when considering cladding modes with dispersion turning points (DTP) in the telecommunication windows. The temperature sensitivity is higher for gratings inscribed in the B/Ge co-doped fibers near DTP and the optimum grating period can be chosen at room temperature. A temperature sensitivity as high as −850 pm/K can be obtained in the 100–200 K temperature range, while a value of −170 pm/K is reachable at 20 K

Association between perceived and actual motor competence in portuguese children

    No full text
The aim of this study was to examine the relationship between actual (AMC) and perceived (PMC) motor competence in Portuguese children. A total of 200 children (111 [0.55%] girls) aged 5–9 years old participated in the study. The Pictorial Scale of Perceived Movement Skill Competence (PMSC) and the Test of Gross Motor Development-2 (TGMD2) were used to assess PMC and AMC, respectively. Mann-Whiney U was used to test the differences between sexes and age groups. The association between TGMD2 and PMSC scores was analyzed through Spearman correlation. Boys and girls of all ages showed to have high PMC. Independent of sex, mean values for each TGMD2 subtest increased throughout the age groups with older children having significantly higher mean scores than younger ones. In general, boys and girls showed similar PMC and AMC, independent of age. Weak to moderate and some negative correlations (0.24 < r < −0.40) were found between PMC and AMC scores for all age and sex groups. In conclusion, there appears to be little relationship between actual and perceived motor competence in Portuguese young children.4811-99FE-2ECD | Luis Paulo Rodriguesinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
