Recurso elaborado no âmbito do projeto “Global Schools: Aprender a (con)Viver”.

    No full text
ABSTRACT: Since 2000, the Higher School of Education (ESE-IPVC), a school integrated in the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo, whose mission is to educate qualified professionals in the fields of Education, Social Work, Arts and Culture has a Unit for Education and Development Studies (GEED) that run, for 15 years, an international program on Education and Cooperation and a volunteer and mobility program with Lusophone African countries, namelyAngola, Cape- Verde and Guinea-Bissau. Through those programs our students had the possibility to work and reflect upon issues related to intercultural education and global citizenship. Nowadays, GEED is more devoted to Development Education/Global Citizenship Education (DE/GCE) implementation and research projects.Due to GEED’s reputation, in 2010 it was invited by the Portuguese Agency for Cooperation and Aid - CAMÕES, Institute of Cooperation and Language - to work as a support team for the Steering Group of the Portuguese National Strategy of Development Education. This role and experience was reinforced, in 2015 with the participation in an international partnership, led by the Autonomous Province of Trento, Italy, in the project Global Schools: EYD 2015 to embed Global Learning in primary education, which aims to address development issues in the formal educational curricula in Primary Schools. In this paper some considerations are made and some lessons learned are shared.C917-B3FD-1A62 | Maria Luísa Vieira das Nevesinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Health communication on social media: perceptions and influences

    No full text
This study aimed to analyze how social media users perceived the health-related content disseminated in this channel. Specifically, it was intended to verify how the dimensions “entertainment,” “interaction,” “trendiness,” and “customization” impacted the “word-of-mouth” that the user could make to other users regarding health-related content. The methodological approach involved a questionnaire survey that integrated a set of statements, adapted from Kim and Ko’s study. Data were collected through an online survey using a convenience sample composed of individuals from the northern region of Portugal. As result, the authors found that the dimensions “entertainment,” “interaction,” and “trendiness” had positive values. “Trendiness” stood out as the dimension with the greatest impact on “word-of-mouth.” The dimensions “entertainment” and “customization” also showed to have an impact on “word-ofmouth” but in a more moderate way.691D-6753-BE59 | Manuel José Serra da FonsecaN/

Satisfaction scoring index for a musical festival during and after the event: the NOS Primavera Sound case study

    Get PDF
Purpose: We present a Satisfaction Scoring Index (SSI) for a musical festival during and after its occurrence, using the NOS Primavera Sound as a case study. Methodology: Data from two random samples during and after the event were collected in the 2016 edition. The respondents were asked to rate their level of satisfaction throughout a five-point Likert scale (between 1 = “not satisfied” and 5 = “very satisfied”). The data were subjected to principal components analysis with varimax rotation to identify the weights of the level of satisfaction. Originality: It is the first time that SSI is applied to a music festival. We created a new framework that allows the scoring and ranking of the level of satisfaction and, consequently, can be a tool to support decision-making. Findings: The SSI during and after the festival is different. And the main difference is that the visitor attributes greater satisfaction to the musical stages during the event than after the event. This result is very relevant, and deserves a reflection on the part of the organization, since the stages are the core business of the event. Practical Implications: Understanding satisfaction in the most famous musical festival of the North of Portugal and what attracts more foreign tourists, could support the organizers and other stakeholders to improve services for visitants, adapting them to their preferences and, ultimately, provide better service in subsequent editions. Research limitations: We do not guarantee that the same festival visitors responded to the surveys during and after the event.B913-0565-0908 | Elvira VieiraN/

Circular economy, sharing, and sustainability: challenges for the social economy in a territory that wants to become a smart region

    Get PDF
Thisstudy aimsto analyse the predisposition ofsocial economy agentsto resource sharing. To achieve this, it was chosen to implement an exploratory qualitative approach directed to managers and an exploratory quantitative approach directed to employees. The results allowed the authors to estimate that they do have a significant economic impact on number, paid work, and business volume. The relationship between the interest demonstration on sharing and the appropriate qualifications for the jobs of managers and employees was shown. The practice of informal and non-regulated sharing of own and third parties’ resources, among close partners, without the existence of a management model of knowledge, assets, time, use/reuse, and exploitation was demonstrated. It is anticipated that the study could serve as a scientific/methodological basis for a regional investment project, R&D, and establishment of partnerships, reconciling interest in a smart region, as well as the application of circular economy principles.691D-6753-BE59 | Manuel José Serra da FonsecaN/

    Get PDF
ABSTRACT: Objective: The present study aimed to analyze quality of life (QoL) in participants of community intervention programs (CIP) focused on healthy aging. Method: A multicenter cross-sectional study was carried out with 304 community-dwelling participants, aged 55 years old or more and living in three locations in Portugal. Half of these individuals (n=152) were involved in a CIP (intervention group). The intervention group was paired according to sex and age group with an equivalent number of participants (n=152) that did not take part in a CIP (comparison group). Activities implemented in the CIP were grouped according to their nature: socio-recreational, educational/lifelong learning and physical activity. Data collection involved a Social Participation Questionnaire, the WHOQOL-Bref and the Satisfaction With Life Scale. Results: The CIP participants (n=152) had a mean age of 71.4 years (±5.4), were predominantly women (75.0%), married (65.4%), with fewer than five years of education (71.7%) and a monthly family income of up to 750 euros (47.4%). The intervention group had a significantly higher QoL in the physical domain than the comparison group ( p<0.03). Physical activity was the most frequently attended session in the CIP (n=119, 78.3%), in comparison with educational/ lifelong learning (n=46, 30.3%) and socio-recreational (n=25, 16.4%) activities. People practicing physical activity in the CIP had a significantly higher QoL in the psychological, social relationships and environment domains ( p<0.05). Conclusion: Participation in the CIP was associated with QoL. Therefore, in line with the active aging framework, CIPs must be a part of public policy measures aimed at the QoL of the population.Fundação para a Ciência e Tecnologia e Programa Operacional Competitividade e Internacionalização (SAICT-POL/23712/2016; POCI-01-0145-FEDER-023712)E51F-89A1-B769 | Carla Fariainfo:eu-repo/semantics/draf

The impact of lean and green practices on logistics performance: a structural equation modelling

    Get PDF
Paper aims: This research has two main objectives, firstly to analyze the level of implementation of lean and green practices of a set of companies and secondly to analyze the relationship between lean and green initiatives in an industrial context. Originality: The use of Structural Equation Modelling (SEM) allows a better analysis of the interlinkage of lean and green towards sustainable gains. The developed model offers conceptual contribution to the arena of the logistics, sustainability, lean and green. Research methods: The methodology used in this study was carried out resorting an inquiry. Firstly, aiming to understand the level of these practices (lean and green) practices in the North of Portugal, a case study was considered. The sample taken is a convenient one, due to time and budget constraints. Secondly, in order to assess the possibility to combine lean ad and green initiatives, a statistical approach was used to develop a SEM for lean and green practices. Main findings: The results demonstrated that the level of implementation of lean and green practices on Portuguese companies are not properly addressed and formalized. The statistical analysis also showed that lean environmental practices and green practices are positively associated. The research showed that lean and green has also a positive impact on the logistics processes of companies. Implications for theory and practice: This research brings some contributions to both academy and companies. Firstly, a further discussion about the benefits of combining lean and green towards sustainability. Secondly, the development of a structural model for lean and green practices was presented, this model contributes to a better understanding of these practices, which can lead companies to develop strategic initiatives towards sustainability.9F18-6D02-26B9 | Ângela Maria Esteves da Silvainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

Entrepreneurship and economic growth in spanish and portuguese regions

    Get PDF
This paper seeks to examine the relationship between entrepreneurship and economic growth at a regional level in Spanish and Portuguese NUTS II. Our panel model is based on the idea by Audrestsch et al (2006), Koo and Kim (2009), and other authors, about the importance of adding economically useful local knowledge variables to the classical model of economic growth, that only included labor and capital. Theses variables are: research and development, human capital, entrepreneurship and social capita. We built two different measurements for entrepreneurship : the ratio of companies created over the total in each region for the years of study, and a cross-section measurement that can be considered as an indicator of survival. These measurements do not offer similar results, which shows the importance of achieving a good measure of entrepreneurship, one ideally combining many different aspects. We find a positive effect of the entrepreneurship variable on GDP growth, in per capita terms and in absolute values.B913-0565-0908 | Elvira VieiraN/

The exploration of friezes and rosettes through digital and non-digital resources in a teacher education program

    Get PDF
This paper describes a study that aims to analyse the performance of future teachers of primary education (6-12 years old) in identifying and constructing symmetries, especially friezes and rosettes, with different resources (paper/pencil; software). To carry out this investigation we followed a qualitative methodology and collected data through observation, written productions, artifacts and photographic records. The participants were fourteen pre-service teachers that attended a Master’s Degree Course in Primary Education (6-12 years old). These pre-service teachers had a unit course about geometric transformations, refining their knowledge about the theme, through the analysis and exploration of each transformation, resorting to examples of applications in mathematical contexts or in other areas. The participants were also motivated to identify/construct friezes and rosettes using paper and pencil. After a period of appropriation, they explored the same aspects of geometric transformations in a dynamic environment provided by the software Gecla, doing it in the classes of another unit course. Results show that the pre-service teachers valued this experience, considering it useful and effective in the development of mathematical knowledge concerning geometric transformations and symmetries. They easily identified symmetries with both resources and were comfortable with the construction/generation of friezes and rosettes. They exhibited difficulties in identifying the motif/module that generates some friezes/rosettes, in both environments. The main difficulties evidenced, either with paper and pencil or with the software, were related to the characterization of some friezes and rosettes.0D1E-4824-1244 | Ana Cristina Coelho Barbosainfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
