The enigma of dark matter and its possible connection with Wigner’s infinite spin representations

    Get PDF
Positive energy ray representations of the Poincar ́ group are naturally subdivided into threeeclasses according to their mass and spin content: m>0, m=0 finite helicity and m=0 infinite helicity. For a long time the localization properties of the massless infinite spin class remained unknown beforeit became clear that such matter does not permit compact spactime localization and its generatingcovariant fields are localized on semi-infinite spacelike strings. It is shown that such matter cannot interact with normal matter within the conceptual setting ofQFT since any such coupling leads to a total delocalization in higher perturbative orders. However,as any positive energy matter, it interacts with gravity. Its inert behavior with respect to ordinarymatter makes it an ideal candidate for dark matter

Exact solution of a generalized two-sites Bose-Hubbard model

    No full text
I introduce a new parametrization of a bosonic Lax operator for the algebraic Bethe ansatz method with the gl(2)-invariant R-matrix and use it to present the exact solution of a generalized two-sites Bose-Hubbard model with asymmetric tunnelling. In the no interaction limit I show that the Bethe ansatz equations can be written as a SN−1 sphere, where N is the total number of atoms in the condensate

    Get PDF

Mediatrix method for filamentation of objects in images

    Get PDF

Peculiarities of massive vector mesons and their zero mass limits

    Get PDF
Massive QED, in contrast with its massless counterpart, possesses two conserved charges; one isa screened (vanishing) Maxwell charge which is directly associated with the massive vector mesonsthrough the identically conserved Maxwell current, while the presence of a particle-antiparticle count-ing charge depends on the matter . A somewhat peculiar situation arises for couplings of Hermitianmatter fields to massive vector potentials; in that case the only current is the screened Maxwell currentand the coupling disappears in the massless limit. In case of selfinteracting massive vector mesons the situation becomes even more peculiar in thatthe usually renormalizability guaranteeing validity of the first order power-counting criterion breaksdown in second order and requires the compensatory presence of additional Hermitian H-fields.Some aspect of these observation have already been noticed in the BRST gauge theoretic formu-lation, but here we use a new setting based on string-local vector mesons which is required by Hilbertspace positivity (”off-shell unitarity”). This new formulation explains why spontaneous symmetrybreaking cannot occur in the presence of higher spin s ≥ 1 fields. The coupling to H-fields inducesMexican hat like selfinteractions; they are not imposed and bear no relation with spontaneous symme-try breaking; they are rather consequences of the foundational causal localization properties realizedin a Hilbert space setting. In case of selfinteracting massive vectormesons their presence is required inorder to maintain the first order power-counting restriction of renormalizability also in second order. The presentation of the new Hilbert space setting for vector mesons which replaces gauge theory andextends on-shell unitarity to its off-shell counterpart is the main motivation for this work. The new Hilbert space setting also shows that the second order Lie-algebra structure of selfinter-acting vector mesons is a consequence of the principles of QFT and promises a deeper understandingof the origin of confinement

    Get PDF

    Get PDF

Texture Classification based on Spectral Analysis and Haralick Features

    Get PDF
In this work we discuss a method to classify a set of texturized images based on the extraction of their Haralick Features. This kind of Classification is capable of providing texture-based measurements (such as contrast or correlation) and use them as main parameters to classify the same type of patterns in other images. In order to improve the classification success ratio a spectral analysis of the textures and, therefore, the use of filters, before the classification step, is proposed here. In this work the classification success has been evaluated using Mean and Canny filters. On the other hand, the Principal Component Analysis is used to optimize the features extracted for the patterns on each image, before introduced into the classifier. With this method the classifying success ratio for the KTH-TIPS subset and 10,000 different permutations was increased --in average-- from 72.28\% to 84.25\%
