Characterization of aspects related to the difficult airway
Introduction: the difficult airway is defined as the clinical situation in which difficulty is experienced with ventilation of the upper airway with the face mask, difficulty with tracheal intubation, or both. Objective: to characterize aspects related to the difficult airway.Method: a review of the available literature was carried out using the analytical synthetic and logical historical methods through articles retrieved from databases such as SciELO, Scopus and ClinicalKey. A total of 12 references were selected that addressed the main characteristics of the topic in question. Results: airway management, conceptualized as the set of maneuvers and use of devices that allow adequate ventilation. Intubation difficulties can occur even in cases considered easy in the assessment. Correct management of the airway (VA) and the difficult airway (DA) is essential in intensive care units (ICU). The evaluation and prediction of a difficult airway in the pediatric patient is of great importance for its correct management. Hypoxia is the cause most often related to death due to airway management. Awake treatment is the option of choice to secure a difficult airway. Conclusions: airway management and maintenance of adequate oxygenation are central objectives in every patient who enters the emergency department. If a difficult airway is encountered, an emergency situation may occur, with deleterious consequences for the patient
Educational intervention on alternative therapies for arthropathies
A pre-experimental before-after study was carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the application of an educational intervention program to increase knowledge related to alternative therapies for arthropathies in clinic 5 of the Baraguá polyclinic, in the period from January 2021 to January 2022. The universe was constituted by 236 patients belonging to this area, a sample of 70 patients was chosen by means of a simple random sampling. The Mc. Nemar statistical test was used to find significant differences between the level of knowledge before and after the intervention. The participants had a low level of knowledge about alternative treatments for their pathologies. It was possible to increase the level of knowledge since almost all the patients finished the research with an adequate general level of knowledge
Educational intervention for the management of Acute Coronary Syndrome
Introduction: acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) is a serious and costly health problem that remains a challenge for medical professionals in making appropriate decisions.
Methods: a pre-experimental study was carried out to evaluate the effectiveness of the application of an intervention program to modify knowledge related to ACS by resident physicians and interns of the Internal Medicine service at the "Roberto Rodríguez Fernández" Provincial Hospital of Morón. We worked with a sample of 30 physicians, 11 residents and 19 interns, of the service. The Mc. Nemar statistical test was used to find significant differences between the level of knowledge about ACS, before and after the application of the educational program, nonparametric test for two paired samples with dichotomous variables, and the Wilcoxon signed ranks test was also used for the analysis of ordinal variables in related samples.
Results: participants had a good initial mastery of the definition of ACS and its most common causes. The initial level of knowledge was inadequate for most of them regarding predisposing factors, diagnostic elements, complications and therapeutic management; in these last four aspects there was a significant increase in the percentage of professionals with an adequate level of knowledge, as well as in the general level of knowledge, in which more than half of the participants ended up with a high level.
Conclusion: ACS is a serious health problem worldwide, which requires updated medical preparation for adequate diagnosis and treatment
