The research is a comparative study of Gender Inequality on Women’s Access to Health in developed and developing countries. The researcher indicated his interest on the topic because of the vital role women play in the overall development of the society in the world. The researcher employed the use of secondary data in his data collection technique in order to carry out this work. In the process of the work, the researcher mentioned indicators and measures of inequality generally in the developed and the developing countries. These measures are: Poverty, Health, Access to Resources, Education, Globalization, Governance, Conflict and Emergencies and Human Right. The above were discussed in order to assess the Human Development Index (HDI), the Gender Empowerment Measures (GEM) and the Gender Development Index (GDI) of developed and developing countries. Attention was then focused on the factors of inequality in the access to health services which is the main concern of the paper. These factors that were discussed in the comparative analysis were; Maternal Mortality, Life Expectancy, HIV/AIDS, Nutritional Status and Anaemia. The research work reveals that the disparity in maternal mortality ratios between the developed and the developing countries is greater than any other indicator. It is therefore suggested among others that global health service emergency should be declared by the WHO and compel both developed and developing countries to respond not only by initiating policies that take into consideration the Health of women as the vital partners of sustainable development but by acting on the policies

Insecurity and Foreign Direct Investment by Oil Multinationals in Nigeria: Niger-Delta in Focus

The study interrogates the dynamics of insecurity and its impact on Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) by multinational oil corporations in Nigeria’s Niger Delta, with a specific focus on Delta and Ondo States between 2017 and 2022. Framed within the Capability Theory, the research identifies oil theft, militant attacks, and kidnapping as strategic tools of economic warfare that deter investment and disrupt national revenue flows. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the study analyzed data from 200 questionnaires and 40 in-depth interviews alongside official records. Findings revealed a significant negative correlation between insecurity and FDI inflow, particularly through oil theft (B = 0.464, p = 0.001) and the killings of oil workers (B = 0.199, p = 0.001), corroborating the hypothesis that insecurity exacerbates capital flight and undermines operational sustainability. The study argues that these patterns reflect not just random criminality but a systemic resistance to marginalization and environmental degradation, with insecurity weaponized as a form of local bargaining. The implications are profound: international oil companies (IOCs) such as Shell and Chevron have begun divesting, resulting in over $1 billion in oil revenue losses in the first quarter of 2022 alone (NUPRC, 2022). The study concludes that resolving the FDI-insecurity nexus requires comprehensive reforms in environmental governance, resource allocation, and state capability to enforce law and order. A multi-dimensional strategy—including environmental remediation, inclusive governance, and community-based policing—is recommended to stabilize the investment environment and promote sustainable development

In the 21st century, Nigeria continue facing myriads of challenges in the area of governance; ranging from lopsided policy initiations and inadequate will for policy implementation. This issue has negatively affected Nigeria’s bid towards national development. The hope of most Nigerians on the use of state power for a sustainable socio-economic transformation in the 21st century has been dashed. It is on this note that the study focuses on the challenges of governance and national development in Nigeria, with reference to 21st century. The methodology is both descriptive and analytical. The study reveals that bad governance in Nigeria remains a bane to national development in all spheres of life. The paper argues that much of government’s development initiatives have remained elitist, bias to development, unfocused and have failed to significantly impact positively on the generality of people who are the main target of development. The paper recommends a fundamental change in the country’s governance in order to arrest the bottlenecks that have militated against national development in Nigeria

The housing crisis affecting displaced persons and the need for a holistic strategy to achieve durable solutions necessitated this study. The study examines the impact of violent conflict and internal displacement on housing and shelter conditions in the Northern Senatorial Zone of Plateau State, Nigeria. Violent conflict has been a primary driver of internal displacement in the region, leading to significant loss of life and disrupting the socioeconomic fabric of affected communities. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, the quantitative component involved surveying 380 households selected from a total population of 37,665 internally displaced households across the Local Government Areas of Barkin Ladi, Bassa, and Riyom. A purposive sampling was further used to administer interviews to 9 key informant respondents and 10 in- depth interviewees. Human needs theory was used as a framework of analysis. Findings from the quantitative analysis indicate substantial housing destruction, inadequate shelter provision, and increased exposure to precarious living conditions. These results are reflected in the qualitative data, where respondents reported widespread demolition of homes and displacement to less secure environments, along with inadequate financial support for housing reconstruction. Additionally, the study found that mass migration has contributed to the desolation of several affected villages. The study calls for stringent government intervention, including proactive measures to mitigate community conflict and address external factors that exacerbate these crises

THE ASYMMETRIC EFFECTSOF MACROECONOMIC VARIABLES ON THE NIGERIAN STOCK MARKET

Nigeria’s pursuit of economic growth has led to increased reliance on fossil fuels for energy generation, resulting in significant carbon emissions that negatively impact environmental quality. This study examines the effect of carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions on environmental quality in Nigeria. Using secondary data spanning from 1992 to 2022, sourced from the World Development Indicators (WDI, 2023) and the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA, 2024), the study employs the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) model for analysis. The results confirm strong evidence of cointegration between CO₂ emissions and environmental quality. Both long-run and short-run estimates reveal that energy consumption from petroleum and other liquids has a positive and significant relationship with carbon emissions. Based on these findings, the study recommends that Nigerian policymakers adopt and implement sustainable energy policies and technologies aimed at reducing carbon emissions. Furthermore, greater investment in renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, tidal, and geothermal energy is encouraged to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment

This research investigates the effect of credit risk management on the financial performance of listed deposit money banks (DMBs) in Nigeria. Specifically, it focuses on analyzing the relationship between the non-performing loan ratio and financial performance, the connection between loan loss provisions and financial performance, and the link between the capital adequacy ratio and financial performance. The study utilized an ex-post facto research design, drawing data from the annual financial reports of 12 listed DMBs over a five-year period (2020-2024). Using regression analysis to evaluate the data, the findings revealed that the loan loss provision ratio (LLPR) has a positive and statistically significant relationship with return on equity (ROE), whereas ROE has a negative and significant impact on LLPR. Additionally, the results indicate a positive and statistically significant relationship between ROE and the capital adequacy ratio. Based on these findings, the study recommends that the Nigerian banking sector should closely monitor credit risk management indicators, as they are essential for assessing financial performance. Furthermore, to enhance the ROE of DMBs in Nigeria, management should consistently promote increased lending activities
