An Energy Efficient and Temperature Stable Digital FLL-Based Wakeup Timer With Time-Domain Temperature Compensation
This brief presents an on-chip digital intensive frequency-locked loop (DFLL)-based wakeup timer with a time-domain temperature compensation featuring a embedded temperature sensor. The proposed compensation exploits the deterministic temperature characteristics of two complementary resistors to stabilize the timer’s operating frequency across the temperature by modulating the activation time window of the two resistors. As a result, it achieves a fine trimming step (± 1 ppm), allowing a small frequency error after trimming (<± 20 ppm). By reusing the DFLL structure, instead of employing a dedicated sensor, the temperature sensing operates in the background with negligible power (2 %) and hardware overhead (< 1 %). The chip is fabricated in 40 nm CMOS, resulting in 0.9 pJ/cycle energy efficiency while achieving 8 ppm/∘C from -40∘C to 80∘C. IEEEFALSEsciescopu

Maladaptation of dentate gyrus mossy cells mediates contextual discrimination deficit after traumatic stress
Fear overgeneralization is a maladaptive response to traumatic stress that is associated with the inability to discriminate between threat and safety contexts, a hallmark feature of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, the neural mechanisms underlying this deficit remain unclear. Here, we show that traumatic stress exposure impairs contextual discrimination between threat and safety contexts in the learned helplessness (LH) model. Mossy cells (MCs) in the dorsal hippocampus are suppressed in response to traumatic stress. Bidirectional manipulation of MC activity in the LH model reveals that MC inhibition is causally linked to impaired contextual discrimination. Mechanistically, MC inhibition increases the number of active granule cells in a given context, significantly overlapping context-specific ensembles. Our study demonstrates that maladaptive inhibition of MCs after traumatic stress is a substantial mechanism underlying fear overgeneralization with contextual discrimination deficit, suggesting a potential therapeutic target for cognitive symptoms of PTSD. © 2024 The Author(s)TRUEsciescopu

Boosting selective hydrogenation of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes through constructing independent Pt and Fe active sites on support
The alloy catalysts usually exhibited excellent catalytic synergy owing to the electronic and ensemble effect. However, the process of alloying makes the displacement of the d-band center from the Fermi level, decreasing the adsorption strength of reactant molecules. Herein, we constructed the spatial separation catalyst in which the independent Pt and FeOx nanoparticles were uniformly distributed on SBA-15 support (denoted as Pt = Fe/SBA-15), which exhibits remarkable efficiency in the hydrogenation of α,β-unsaturated aldehydes, i.e. with a 4 fold higher than the corresponding alloy catalyst in reaction rate, and a 4 fold increase in selectivity for cinnamalcohol production compared to the single Pt catalyst. It is found that Pt primarily catalyzes the H2 dissociative adsorption into H*, while FeOx mainly catalyzes the reaction between H* and aldehydes, forming alcohols. Assuming that the rate-determining-step is the H-spillover from Pt to Fe, the two cascade reactions are interconnected. To confirm this mechanism, we employ a physical mixture catalyst of Pt/SBA-15 and FeOx/SBA-15, where its catalytic activity lies between Pt = Fe/SBA-15 and alloy materials. The catalysts’ structures are well characterized by STEM and EDS mapping analysis, and the mechanism is supported by experimental data and DFT calculations. The research we conducted offers a new perspective into the cooperative catalysis, achieved by coupling independent active centers in thermos-hydrogenation reactions. © 2024 Elsevier B.V.FALSEsciescopu
Temporal-Quality Ensemble Technique for Handling Image Blur in Packaging Defect Inspection
Despite achieving numerous successes with surface defect inspection based on deep learning, the industry still faces challenges in conducting packaging defect inspections that include critical information such as ingredient lists. In particular, while previous achievements primarily focus on defect inspection in high-quality images, they do not consider defect inspection in low-quality images such as those containing image blur. To address this issue, we proposed a noble inference technique named temporal-quality ensemble (TQE), which combines temporal and quality weights. Temporal weighting assigns weights to input images by considering the timing in relation to the observed image. Quality weight prioritizes high-quality images to ensure the inference process emphasizes clear and reliable input images. These two weights improve both the accuracy and reliability of the inference process of low-quality images. In addition, to experimentally evaluate the general applicability of TQE, we adopt widely used convolutional neural networks (CNNs) such as ResNet-34, EfficientNet, ECAEfficientNet, GoogLeNet, and ShuffleNetV2 as the backbone network. In conclusion, considering cases where at least one low-quality image is included, TQE has an F1-score approximately 17.64% to 22.41% higher than using single CNN models and about 1.86% to 2.06% higher than an average voting ensemble. © 2024 by the authors.TRUEsciescopu
