The Relationship between Macular Thickness and Retinal Nerve Fiber Layer of The Malay Population with Myopia: A Pilot Study
It is crucial to investigate retinal structural changes in myopia at an early stage to prevent severe complications that can lead to blindness. This study explores the correlation between macular thickness (MT) and retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness among the Malay population with myopia. This study utilized Optical Coherent Tomography (OCT) to assess retinal changes by observing macular and retinal thickness. The findings suggest that both MT and RNFL are thinner in individuals with moderate to high myopia. Therefore, the assessment of MT and RNFL should be integrated into routine monitoring procedures for moderate to high myopic eyes
Effect of 20 Minutes 3-Prism Base-Out Wear on Vergence Parameters
Prism is utilised in visual treatment and binocular vision evaluation. Previous studies did not provide a satisfactory explanation for the impact of a 20-minute prism base-out wear on the vergence system when viewing at a distance. This study aimed to assess the effect of 3 prism base-out wear on the vergence system when viewing at distance position. Thirty (30) subjects were recruited in this cross-sectional clinical study. Subjects wore 3-prism base-out for 20 minutes while watching a movie at 6 m. Phorias were tested at distance and near, near point of convergence (NPC), negative fusional vergence (NFV) at distance and near, and positive fusional vergence (PFV) at distance and near. All vergence parameters were measured before and after watching the movie at 6 m with a 3-prism base-out inducement. A parametric paired t-test results analysis showed that there were significant differences in the mean phoria at 6 m (t (29) =2.37, p<0.05) and the mean phoria at 6 m (t (29) =2.21, p<0.05) before and after the intervention. However, there were no significant differences in the other mean vergence parameters studied (p>0.05). In conclusion, after a 20-minute period of 3 prism base-out wear, the vergence parameters observed in this investigation were almost identical for all normal subjects when viewing a distance fixatio
Influencing of individual and organizational readiness on attitude towards IoT adoption: mediating role of IoT readiness in (LHEIs)
Despite the global shift towards digital education, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, Libyan higher education institutions face unique challenges in transitioning to e-learning. While high-speed Internet access is not a significant barrier in Libya (Hammoud, 2023; The Libya Observer, 2019). Additionally, the absence of a clear understanding of readiness factors hinders successful strategic planning for Internet of Thing (IoT) adoption in Libyan Higher Education Institutions (LHEIs), leading to inefficient or misguided efforts. Therefore, this study seeks to address this gap by examining and investigating the influence of individual readiness (Digital Strategy, leadership commitment, commitment to change) and organizational readiness (digital self-efficacy, digital literacy, digital trust) on the attitude towards IoT adoption and IoT readiness among LHEIs. Furthermore, the study identifies the role of mediating effect of IoT readiness between individual, organizational readiness and attitude towards IoT adoption. The study employed a quantitative approach to the collection of data using questionnaire administration. In this study, the target of population of the study was the faculty members and academic professionals in University of Benghazi (UOB) and University of Tripoli (UOT) in Libya and data collected via random sampling method. The sample of the present study consisted of a total of 409 individuals in LHEIs analyzed using Stractural Equastion Modelling (Smart-PLS4) in order to examine the relationship among the paper latent variables. The major findings indicated that organizational and individual readiness were statistically positively influence on attitude towards IoT adoption and IoT readiness. Additionally, IoT readiness was a partial mediating effect between organizational, individual readiness and attitude towards IoT adoption in LHEIs.The study’ findings confirmed the validity of an empirical framework to analyse adoption of IoT in LHEIs. the study’s findings reveal the need to test sub-variable of organizational and individual readiness that may provide a better explanation of IoT readiness and IoT adoption by the higher education universities sector of developing countries in general and Libya in particular. Moreover, the study is significant because of its implication for the overall productivity of Libyan universities which integrate digital technologies into their teaching and be knowledgeable about the accelerated development in various fields of knowledge. This will increase the opportunities for educators to adopt these technologies and enhance the educational experience for a new generation of learners known as digital natives among LHEIs. Finally, the study’ findings contributed to the academic discourse and provide practical insights for universities staff, educational leaders, universities’ students, policymakers to adopt IoT in the Libyan higher education sector

Knowledge, Attitude, and Practice of Febrile Patient Regarding Malaria in Aden Governorate: A Cross Sectional Study
Introduction: Malaria remains a significant public health issue in many parts of the world, particularly in tropical and subtropical regions. Despite global efforts to manage and eradicate malaria, it continues to be a major health concern in Yemen. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among febrile patients presenting to healthcare facilities in Aden Governorate. A structured questionnaire was used to collect data on socio-demographic characteristics, knowledge of malaria transmission, symptoms, treatment, and prevention, as well as attitudes and practices related to malaria prevention and control. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze the data. Results: A total of 240 febrile patients participated in the study, achieving a response rate of 100%. The mean age of the respondents was 21.78 years (SD = 17.18). The study had a balanced representation of both male (122, 50.8%) and female (118, 49.2%) respondents. The results indicated good overall knowledge about malaria transmission, symptoms, treatment, and prevention. However, the attitude score was moderate, suggesting some misconceptions and negative attitudes towards malaria. Practices were poor, reflecting inadequate adherence to preventive measures such as bed net use and seeking prompt treatment for fever. Conclusion: Febrile patients have good knowledge about malaria, but there are still misconceptions and negative attitudes towards the disease. Additionally, their practices related to malaria prevention and control are inadequate. Targeted interventions are needed to address the gaps in attitude and practice, promote positive attitudes, and improve practices towards malaria prevention and control. This could involve the development of culturally appropriate health education materials, community engagement, and the promotion of preventive measures through innovative approaches. Enhancing the effectiveness of malaria prevention and control efforts will contribute to reducing the burden of malaria in endemic regions
A Study on Optometry Students’ Scale of Academic Self-concept as a Predictor of Academic Achievement
An individual’s self-concept can have a relevant impact on their lives, and Carl Rogers stated that it consists of self-image, self-esteem, and ideal self. He believed that the congruence of these would then lead to self-actualization—the tendency for an individual to become what they are potentially. In Philippine academic institutions, there is a near absence of awareness towards students’ mental states in relation to their academics. There’s even less literature discussing Filipinos’ academic self-concept; therefore, to contribute, this study determined if an individual’s self-concept can predict their academic achievement (AA) based on their grade point average (GPA). The results were gathered through an online version of the Academic Self-Concept Scale (ASCS) by Dr. William Reynolds and a self-report survey of their GPA. After analyzation, there is a significant (though weak) relationship shown between the two variables; hence, the respondents’ ASCS is a viable predictor for their subsequent AA
The Awareness of Optometric Profession and Ocular Disease Among Ampang District Population
Presbyopia is an age-related disorder that results from the gradual loss of the eye's capacity to vary its optical power. In Malaysia, there is a scarcity of evidence on presbyopia-related knowledge and perception. This study aimed to assess patients' knowledge on presbyopia as well as their preferred near refractive correction options. The knowledge and perception assessment was done through an online questionnaire. In Gombak, Selangor, 65 participants completed an online questionnaire consisting of six questions. Participants' age ranged between 40 to 70 years old representing presbyopic population. More than half of the respondents are not familiar with the term ‘presbyopia’ (52.3%), nearly all respondents agreed that presbyopia is associated with age (98.6%), majority of the respondent aware that spectacles could correct presbyopia (94.2%) and almost half acknowledged contact lens could treat presbyopia (49.3%), lack of felt need (38.7%) is the main reason for the respondents not wearing correction followed by headache (35.5%), wearing distance spectacles separately with reading glasses (68.6%) is the most preferred mode of near correction. In this study it shows that level of knowledge on presbyopia does not associate with one’s occupation (p=0.145). Besides, the preferred modes of near corrections was not shown to be related to one's level of knowledge on presbyopia (p=0.711). Despite their familiarity with the term "presbyopia," the majority of survey participants are aware that ageing is the cause of presbyopia. Additionally, this study showed that spectacles is the most opted method of near vision correction. population on the optometric profession and common eye disease
Effect of 20 Minutes 3-Prism Base-Out Wear on Accommodation Parameters
Accommodation involves changes in lens shape and optical power facilitated by the ciliary muscle, while vergence adjusts binocular gaze for different distances. Prism, used in treating binocular vision issues, induces convergence and thereby affects accommodation indirectly, especially during near tasks. Spectacle wearers may inadvertently experience prism effects due to optical centre misalignment, potentially impacting accommodation. Previous research combining prism-induced effects on vergence and accommodation among individuals with normal binocular vision found no significant effects, although the specific impact on accommodation remains underexplored. This study aims to provide focused insights into the specific effects of prism-induced accommodation, addressing gaps left by previous research. The purpose of this research was to compare the accommodation parameters before and after 20 minutes of 3-prism base-out wear. Thirty (30) subjects were recruited in this clinical cross-sectional study and all subjects wore the 3-prism base-out for 20 minutes while watching a movie at 6 m distance. All accommodation parameters were measured before and after watching the movie at 6 m with 3-prism base-out inducement. The results showed that there was no significant difference in accommodation parameters before and after the intervention except for the monocular accommodation facility, which were on the right eye (p=0.001) and left eye (p=0.007). In conclusion, it was suggested that wearing 3-prism base-out during distance fixation for 20 minutes had increased monocular accommodation facility in healthy individuals. This indicates that this approach may potentially benefit patients with accommodative infacility, suggesting further exploration for alternative treatments
A Screening of Dry Eye Syndrome among University Students in Shah Alam using McMonnies Questionnaire
Dry eye syndrome (DES) is a condition in which there are insufficient tears to lubricate the eye that result in discomfort, visual disturbance and tear film instability. One of the factors that contribute to dry eye syndrome in young adult is staring at the computer screen for a long period and frequently exposed to the visual display unit (VDU). The main objective of this study is to screen the dry eye syndrome among private university students in Shah Alam using McMonnies questionnaire. Fourty subjects ages from 18 to 26 years old (mean 20.77±2.58) were recruited in this study. All subjects were undergone self-administration closed ended McMonnies questionnaire and standard diagnostic procedure to evaluate stability of tear film using tears break up time (TBUT) test. The result shows only 5% of total subjects have dry eye syndrome based on McMonnies questionnaire score. This study also found moderate correlation between McMonnies questionnaire score and tears break up time (TBUT) (Spearman’s rho test: r= -0.69). In conclusion, 5 in 100 university students having dry eye syndrome and McMonnies questionnaire was found to be well correlated with clinical test in screening dry eyes
